I was wondering, is the house in "Gave Up" the Sharon Tate house? I asked this once as it's own thread and no one knew. thanks
|
i remember your thread.
i never saw the video to 'gave up', but its possible, because trent moved to the house right after 'broken' and short before recording TDS.... maybe Kage will know. |
Yes, the Gave Up video was filmed in the Tate house. I guess that was just after they moved in there, though I'm not sure the exact date that the video was shot. Manson looks like such a loser playing guitar in that video :p
I really need to pick up the Fragile, I heard it's amazing.
Nah, not really. |
Manson looks like such a loser playing guitar in that video :p
lol, I agree. I'm a big Manson fan, but yeahhhh...lol |
You know, I used to think that I liked With Teeth.
Then I listened to it in surround sound. |
Nah, not really.
Why don't you like it? |
I didn't like With Teeth at all. It just sounded like a bunch of synthesized noise half the album.
|
wow... great songs... but i can't see "something i can never have" (my favourite NIN-song)
wish and right afterwards terrieble lie :thumb: ... but he should have played march of the pigs right after  |
Most of those are songs I'm not familiar with and the rest are from With Teeth. I guess it could be a good setlist if you're a With Teeth fan, which I am. I would love to see more stuff from The Fragile though.
Oh god. I just saw them last night here in Seattle. It was FUCKING AMAZING.
Here's what they played: Pinion Wish Terrible Lie The Line Begins to Blur March of the Pigs You Know What You Are Burn Gave Up Eraser Right Where it Belongs Only Closer (A new song that they haven't released yet) Love is Not Enough Hurt The Hand That Feeds Starfuckers, Inc. Head Like A Hole That was it in order, as much to my memory as possible. I had a totally clear view of Trent and Twiggy.. and Trent was lookin very sexy. Oh man, it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to.
Too bad they didn't play getting smaller. I'm seeing them in november with queens of the stone age |
i just realised (after looking back at my concerts setlist) that they are playing always the same songs... nearly.
my setlist (14th june)
Pinion The Frail The Wretched Wish Sin The Line Begins To Blur March Of The Pigs Something I Can Never Have Hand That Feeds Terrible Lie Closer Love Is Not Enough home Burn ? You Know What You Are? Suck Gave Up Hurt Dead Souls Star****ers Inc. Head Like A Hole
|
i just realised (after looking back at my concerts setlist) that they are playing always the same songs... nearly.
my setlist (14th june)
That's kind of how it works. They make up a setlist and play the same songs at every show. The order may change, but the songs are the same. |
yeah, but they could vary it more... put more songs from the fragile on!!
isn't it boring for them to play every ****ing evening the same songs ?! edit: and they always end with star****ers, followed by head like a hole |
It can get boring, it just depends on how they feel about their music. Further motivation to put out the best stuff possible.
I agree, they should've played more Fragile stuff. But for a band like NIN who has millions of songs released, it can get challenging to keep their playing of every song sharp. With a defined setlist, they can relearn the selected songs and not have to keep their entire discorgraphy fresh in their minds. |
Today, I finally broke down and bought a NIN album. I picked up The Downward Spiral from Borders for 15 bucks. So far, I am glad I did. :-D I'm also kind of kicking myself for not seeing NIN a few days ago. :p
As it stands at the moment, my favorite song is Closer, probably just because I'm so familiar with the song. |
Closer is a very memorable song. I also love Hurt, Mr. Self Destruct, and Ruiner.
|
I just listened to A Warm Place. Talk about atmospheric. :p So, TDS is a concept album right? Anyone wanna explain to me what it's about?
I just listened to A Warm Place. Talk about atmospheric. :p So, TDS is a concept album right? Anyone wanna explain to me what it's about?
It's about the gradual destruction of an unstable mind. Mr. Self Destruction is pretty much an introduction to the concept. Heresy is him giving up religion. The Downward Spiral is his suicide. Hurt is him reflecting on his life after he kills himself. And so on. Wow, it's been a while since I've been in here. |
Similair to Dark Side of the Moon, then? Well, plus drugs, heh. :p
Thanks for the info, I always seem to appreciate music even more when I know the story and meaning behind it. |
It basically follows the life of a person as they fall through a "downward spiral" you could say. Each song tells of a stage that person goes through. He first rejects God (Heresy) and goes on to reject society (March of the Pigs). That person tries to turn to drugs/alcohol/prostitution (Reptile) to remedy the problems, but in the end finds that suicide is the only answer (Hurt).
That's just a quick summary. Each song tells of a slightly different stage. I think the way the concept progresses and each song fits it is brilliance. |
I can definitely hear how Reptile is the apex of chaos. So far, I'm already really feeling this album. :)
|
It is indeed an incredible album. I prefer the Fragile, but right now I feel like puuling this out again. :)
|
Are you listening to it for the first time?
|
I sure am.
I like the outro riff to Closer reemerges in TDS. It sounds so sad on an acoustic. |
I can't believe you waited so long to break down and buy the album!
|
It's been on my "to-buy" list for about 4 months, surprisingly. :p
I'm now watching the DVD side of TDS. Creepy music video for Closer. :-/ |
Wow, I'm honestly surprised that you hadn't heard the Downward Spiral before today.
That theme does pop up a lot in the album. So wait, which tracks on TDS hadn't you heard before? Oh and yeah, the Closer video is just brilliant. |
TDS is my fav. NIN album, somehow every song fits perfectly(even march of the pigs).
Cool concept also. |
Wait, TDS came with a DVD side??
