I mean pixiesfanyo Jared.
EDIT: l8 |
OK, thanks. I'll try to stay on topic, but I thought the community thread was like the pit of the other forums, but a lot less plagued by stupidity?
Anyhow, As I was reading the community thread past pages (Around page 35, when I first posted in here) And I realized that Mozarella (morrissey) has been ranting about critiquing since July! OMG that's gotta be really, really... uh... a lot of time, for sure. And for the writing matters, I'll start writing some poems/songs again, as I have a lot of free time, I have no school tomorrow (therefore this was a long 4 day weekend) I have an old notebook with a lot of free pages and well... basically I'm in the mood. :D |
I think you need a history lesson, kid.
We had a Community thread here before. I specifically said, "No spam, keep it on the topic of songwriting and lyrics." And then a certain three members (theredwonder, zeppelinfan2k3 and morrissey) came waltzing in this forum and decided that they could post in the Community thread whenever they had a bowel movement or stuffed some food in their mouths. They spammed the hell out of it after I warned them quite a number of times. So I deleted it. In other words, if you don't have anything S&L-related to talk about, don't post about it here. |

I also was around a long time before that period and as this was my first forum, learned about posting rules here. However, this thread has never been solely related to S&L topics since I first signed up. Most of the time it was a socializing place just like any other community thread, though not as full of spam. You started to crack down on it when it got spammy, but don't act like it used to be S&L discussion only, because it has never been that way (since I've been here, and as that's over a year I'd say it's a fairly accurate assessment) and whenever it's restricted to that, there are almost no posts. Plus most the posts here aren't spam as they're well thought out for the most post and certainly not single smileys or short little phrases. A lot of the discussion in here is paragraphs per post, regardless of whether or not it's on an S&L topic, I fail to see how you can see that as spam. Spam is the pit. Bartender doesn't allow spam in the R&M community thread (usually) and I see as much good discussion here (if not more) than I do there. I'd say you're being a little strict here, but of course that's my opinion and you don't have to even read it if you don't want. Vince |
It never has been S&L discussion only, and that's the problem. That is what it should be. Which is why I get tired of people talking about how they just ate something or how tired they are or blah blah blah.
|
Ah... OK. Sorry, then. But we can talk about anything, considering it'll be ON TOPIC, right? Like inspiration, or writer's block... Alright, then that way it'll be.
Sorry for the inconvenience. |
But why? Isn't that what the tips thread is for? Isn't this to build up a community? More than any other place this is the hardest place to develop a community because in all the other threads you don't discuss things with people, you critique their songs. It's important to build a community too though, and talking about random stuff does that because you learn other facets of the posters.

It's quite easy to build a community here. People write songs, other people critique them. Don't tell me that doesn't work because I know a number of forums where it works perfectly, people here just don't put in the effort. And I know firsthand that the Hardcore forum here has the best community ever, and their community thread has literally almost no off-topic discussion. All they talk about is hardcore/emo music, shows, etc. I don't see why you guys can't talk about songwriting and lyrics and not create a community out of that. It actually wouldn't be difficult at all. |

Well, but if you see what Burt's main premise is: He doesn't want this as a spam thing... I guess it hasn't been too spammy, like it's been stated before, we talk about everyday stuff, sure, but we don't post 's or :)'s, I think... well. I don't know, I don't have the lead in this forum, but it's a little to harsh to make us talk exclusively about songwriting, especially as some users don't ever set foot outside of here (i.e. Sloth) and you don't really get to know them. But it's really up to whoever has the lead in here, if Burt believes this can be a spam nest, then it's his duty to keep clean this part of the forums. If we behave maybe he'll lighten up in that, and we'll be able to do something better about it... and well, it's not like we're 3 users talking about the same things over and over again (i.e. Biilly Corgan Appreciation thread ) It's quite a bunch of guys talking about other aspects of our lives. As soon as you see it's a quite centralized talk, then you can act, but I don't anything wrong is being done here. |

I actually hate that community, but to each their own I guess. But I also think it's easier to discuss music than songwriting all the time. I personally could discuss music all the time and get a community out of that, and I do do that, but I find it much more difficult to do the same for S&L. It's your call though as you run the show, and I won't contest it more because I know I won't change your mind. |

There's the odd "i got up and brushed my teeth" type post but i don't think this place is overrun with spam posts and spam posters. The S&L community thread is one of the smallest on the forums and it's also one of the cleanest. If it's a worry about postcount spam, then i can't really remember any in here with one and two line off topic stuff. In any case i have no problem with losing postcount if you delete this every month or so, and i'm sure a lot of the other regulars feel the same. |
Not postcount, just terrible posting. I just want to see people actually staying on topic instead of being lame and spamming. It's not the postcount adding that gets to me, it's just the fact that people are not even talking about songwriting and lyrics that irritates me.
Songwriting and lyrics encompasses a lot of things. Songs, bands, lyrics, writers, inspiration, all sorts of things. There are plenty of things to discuss. There's no need to make this your personal blog though and I'd appreciate it if people wouldn't. I'm not pointing out anyone, I'm just telling you the way I want this to work since people have been doing that again. |
Ok then.
Subtle. Where can we go to talk about stuff we feel like talking about rather than strictly songwritting? Because I am sure if you designated a certain thread for that, this thread would die. It's simple demand. No one wants to talk about songwriting and songwriting only. And if they do they do it here. But if you want a dead and barren thread go ahead and restrict such actions. I personally do not see a problem with the way that it is even though I dont post too much here anymore. Here = MX. |
If you want to talk about what you're doing, get a blog. Like I said, this isn't the place to discuss trivial crap you do with your life.
|
Well then. Seems like this place isnt going to go anywhere.
Are you being graded on our performance? I really havent seen the reason for your restriction about what we talk about. How many people post here? Fiveish maybe? How many people would post here if we couldnt talk about what we wanted? None. |
I don't think you understand the way this works.
You're lucky to even have this thread. It's called the S&L Community Thead, which means it is a community to talk about songwriting and lyrics. If you're not going to do that, leave. I would rather you not post than have you post about your useless garbage. I onestly don't care if you don't post that crap. |
I dont either. It's a forum. On the internet.
I prefer not to spend a ton of my time slaving over something to inane and useless such as a forum. I prefer real people anyway! But the point comes down to this: There is no reason for you to enforce such rules when there is nothing wrong with what is happening now. We just arent talking about what you want us to, and if you want to enforce such useless rules (for your dictatorship) I will gladly just leave again. |
Quit acting like you're such an oppressed individual. It's a frigging community thread, if you can't follow some simple guidelines (namely posting on topic) then you don't need to be here.
I told you, that's what the thread is, if you're going to spam, leave. It was established from the start of this thread that it wouldn't be a place for you to spam. Now either leave or get over it. |
I find it entertaining how you, Subtle, keep going on and on about how this thread isn't about "useless" stuff that's "off the subject" in an off the subject thread. By arguing with us, you're proving yourself wrong and giving us more useless stuff to talk about == We win.. I'm not saying you do this, but, rather than concentrating on the random crap that goes on here, focus on the rest of the forum.. ****ty spam posts that waste our time. Keep your eyes "peeled" (if you will) to crap about writing music and how to enhance one's vocal abilities.. Often times, it is us, not the mods, who take the responsibilites of the mod.. telling the person to go elsewhere, etc...
So really.. no matter how much you yell at us for talking about "useless stuff" on here...we'll keep doing it to some extent.. The only way that you'll stop that is by banning everyone who does... which will inturn make people leave the forum and it will say to people, "I'm a dick mod" |
Or what you could do is shut the fuck up before I delete the whole thing again so you'll have nowhere to spam like morons.
Does that sound reasonable? I gave you a second chance, but apparently you're still not mature enough to realize that since I moderate I choose whether you even have a community thread. You don't have a right to discuss what you want, when you want. This isn't a democracy. So either live with what you got or you're not going to have anything. |

Sorry to interrupt the bitch fest, but this is to JoshMay if he comes on.
I spent most of tonight reading through your stuff on here and was blown away. My favourite of the work i have read so far was "the forever formula", probably some of the least abstract of your stuff but brilliant. I spent about a half hour reading through your poems and i enjoyed every minute of. I intend to read the rest of your stuff tomorrow. If you see this could you e-mail me about the possibility of purchasing a copy of your chapbook, as i live significantly far away and would like to know how much mailing would cost me. EmergencyRoom@hotmail.co.uk Thanks :) EDIT: I jsut realised that you are five years younger than me. I'm doubly impressed by your writing. |
heh the chances of Josh coming in here are slim to none. Unless he just lurks, but I doubt it.
Here's his AIM: joshmay41465. Good luck. |

Thanks, and thanks again for the critique
THis is about your other post, but if you were actually born in 1985 (as your profile suggests) then Josh is older than you I believe. I'm pretty sure he's older than me :-\ |
I was under the impression Josh was 17 a while ago, which would make him 18 now. Uh I don't know what I'm basing that information on though.

A post from 2004 has him saying he is 15. Apart from making me unable to count(he's then four years younger than me) i just noticed that his birthday on profile is june. That makes him 17. So three years younger than me. My deduction skills took a while to kick in. I'm still mightily impressed by his writing. A sight more mature than when i was 17. |
OMG it's the intelectual authors of the original S&L Community thread's dead!
*Sprays DDT* eh... It's actually unbelievable how a few years can make you feel different about something. It's got to do alot with your environment, actually. Depends a lot on the internal stuff, but usually the environment messes a lot with what you write. If your parents are hillbillies that fish with cheese and eat raw dogs, then you'll do things to suit that image you've grown to embrace with the years... Of course I'm just basing myself in the Conductist theory of psychology by Watson, which has nothing to do with Piaget's view of growth of a child, and my answer could be totally biased. At any rate, I read a lot. :D |
