i love the drum solo in people = $hit...
Yes, it is quite a nice solo, isnt it? The best part about that song is the beginning though. One of the best intros to a nu-metal album ever. |
They both use custom drums sets built by Shawn. They use:
2 Mount Toms 1 Floor Tom 1 Bass Drum, set up like the floor tom 1 Anheuser-Busch Beer Keg Vater Hammer sticks (now they've been in ads for Vic Firth, so they may have changed)
They were originally made by Shawn, now a company called Dunnett makes them. |
About Slipknot. I hate their image. Masks are stupid. Their lyrics, for the most part, suck.
I will say, however, that Joey is a class drummer, and their two guitarists know how to shred. I think the idea of have 3 drummers is creative and makes the music a sh!tload heavier. Slipknot could be a great band if they did the following: - got rid of the masks - stopped writing angsty lyrics - got rid of their dj and keyboardist, and the other dude (I dont even know what he does)... frankly they could go without the extra drummers as well, but i guess they could experiment. - signed onto an underground label and stopped whoring themselves to MTV. |

The guy you don't know who he is is probably Craig. Hes the sampler. Yes, seems pretty pointless, but that's something very debatable. DJ Sid Wilson did amazing work on S/T, he does good stuff. I have no problem with your post besides you saying you think that having 3 drummers is creative, but then saying they can do without. Seemed a little contradictory, but can go both ways. |

I somewhat agree with Panzerfaust, but somewhat don't. I have to give Joey a lot of credit because he is definitely a good drummer. But if you look at all other old bands with good drummers, they only have one. Led Zepplin for example- listen to Moby Dick, it sounds like several sets of drums, but John Bonham was their only drummer. A good drummer doesn't need help. Sure, like he said, it's creative, but they really don't need three drummers. I've heard joey solo before, and he definitely doesn't need any help, but it really doesn't matter. About their guitarists, they need more creativity. Their heavy style matches the band, but you look at some of the greatest metal bands ever (Pantera, Iron Maiden, etc.), they do kick a'ss solos every song, and it only adds to their greatness. If their guitarists were able to make classic solos, they would be the perfect new metal band. Also, about the masks. Who cares?! It's their style. It makes them genuine and original. If they played without their masks, they might as well be "just another metal band" and wouldn't be half as popular as they are now. Personally, I think their masks kick a'ss.

If you ask me, they are kinda stupid. How old are they? And they write lyrics that speak to middle school kids. Well, I think it's kinda hilarious the whole "maggot" and mask thing, like it's a huge joke. I have herd that they're live show is pretty hilarious too. They are touring w/ The Dillinger Escape Plan (an absolutly ball melting band) later this year, so I guess I'll see the humorous quasi-nu metal action for myself. All you maggots who are planning on atending any of these DEP shows better be ready to see Slipknot put to absolute shame.

Shawn and Chris arnt there because Joey cant handle the drum parts on his own,, they are there for the power and tribal sound, and the build-ups |

I dont think they're much on MTV. At least I have never seen them on MTV. Now MTV2, they might be there, but I never had that channel so I had no idea. |

The lyrics on the new album are very good. See "The Virus Of Life" as a very good example. The term "Maggot" was created by Joey Jordison at their first Ozzfest show. He described what it looked like to see all those fans coming to the stage. It reminded him of maggots. DEP is an awesome band. My friend is a huge fan. I'll have to catch that show. |
hey, im just wondering if any of you have seen this site http://www.black-goat.com. It's great, and has the full history of the band, and all about the ex-members and ****.

If you continue to act like you're acting on this thread, you WILL get banned. Trust me, I know from experience. This site takes NO crap. At all. I started a huge argument about pop-punk music under another name and got banned. Permanantly. And it started with a trite comment like the one that you just posted. If you don't get banned, I suggest that you read the rock/metal rules BEFORE you post again. If any hardcore Slipknot fans see your post, I can almost guarantee that you will be reported, then banned. So I suggest you take my advice and read the rules and take your opinions elsewhere. |
lol, that was a pretty stupid post. i just typed "slipknot" into google search. i didnt know it was such a popular site. and there seems to be enough discussion in here about around the MFKR era so sorry about that.

I visit black-goat.com almost daily. Great place.

I know joey doesn't need help and that its for heaviness, but I just think they're not entirely necessary, but honestly, how many other bands can say that they have 9 members that actually serve a purpose? ps- has anyone ever heard of Mayhem? They're psychotic. Literally. Read below. http://www.mtv.com/bands/az/mayhem/bio.jhtml |

about what? |
I know joey doesn't need help and that its for heaviness, but I just think they're not entirely necessary, but honestly, how many other bands can say that they have 9 members that actually serve a purpose?
You are probably the 657,879,435,675,345,652,874,963,214,589,652,852,365,256,325,147,855,123,456,789,001 person to say that. The fact is: Each member adds SOMETHING to the band. That something may be a large something or a small something. Having that many members doesn't hurt anything. So, why not? |
First off: Craig got a keyboard, and he uses it on Volume 3. He's been listed as "Samples/Media" for the longest time, but now can add "Keyboardist" to his resume. I've seen him play it, and it's very noticable, see "Prelude", "Duality", "Circle", "Vermilion", (1 and 2), and they have piano on a later track too. That's all Craig.
Secondly, has anyone even paid attention to the lyrics of Volume 3? Seriously, the lyrics on Iowa and S/T are utter garbage. The stuff on Volume 3, while not exactly virtuosic, is pretty good. I urge you to check out the lyrics before calling them stupid. Third, you all want to talk about how stupid the masks are...but I don't see why it's a big deal. It's part of who they are, it's their look. Let them have it, and shut up about it. The only people who should get criticism for masks and matching outfits are any bands who do it after Slipknot has. Leave it alone. |
I am not trying to be negative about anything, I said that they have 9 members. It's original. No other band that I can think of has over 6 members. It, like their masks, make them original. Ask someone what band has 9 members and wears masks, they WILL say Slipknot.

I saw some chick today with a slipknot shirt on walking down the street, so we through eachother the horns and said 'The blister exists'

Circle is so full of synth it isn't funny. It opens up with the acoustic guitar, then bass comes in, then you get synth strings that play in unison with the bass, and you've got other sounds...that may be sampled and/or Sid... But there are definetly instances of keys being played. Go back and listen to it again, it's there  I love the use of it in Vermilion though. |

When you listen to it with headphones you notice the background noises. The keyboard use in vermillion is insane, Easily craigs best work in any of there cds. In Iowa i sort of felt bad for him LOL, I could only pick out some parts. But that cd is so drum dominated its not even funny, There isnt anything wrong with that though :thumb: |
Circle definetly sees Craig doing the most work. Vermilion just sounds cool, the Crystal effect being used in the outro is nuts.

im a big fan of slipknot but i even admit the only talent in that band is joey jordison (drums) and corey taylor (vocals)
im a big fan of slipknot but i even admit the only talent in that band is joey jordison (drums) and corey taylor (vocals)
They all have more talent than they are given credit for. Craig is probably the only one I can think of who, SEEMINGLY, has the least talent. But I can't say for sure, I mean, I don't know what it takes to do what he does, since I don't do it. Chris and Shawn are good at what they do, but they seem to want to headbang more than anything. Oh well. Mick and Jim's riffage is good, and they can solo in spite of not doing it, as shown on the new album, and in the now-infamous Line 6 video of Mick going nuts. I used to think Paul was worthless till two things happened. One, I listened to MFKR, and realized there were alot of good basslines on there. Someone had told me before that it wasn't Paul, but it was indeed Paul playing those nifty bass licks. And then, I read an interview he did, and he said flat out that he chooses to lay back and provide a solid rhythm foundation, and that he likes more often than not to keep it simple. He said he had a few chances to show off on Volume 3 (most notably, some of his fills in Vermilion) but he felt that the band was not about one person showing off, but rather the band as a whole looking good. Joey is overrated by idiot fans, and underrated by elitists. The man has a ton of speed, and his parts fit. He's not a god, but he's not a bad drummer either. I guess I'll just take Remedy's word for it about Sid, I haven't really paid much attention to him. But he seems to know what he's doing, and some of his work on the S/T album was really cool (see: Surfacing) Corey can sing really decently when he wants to, as shown more often on Volume 3. It usually turns out to be a love-hate relationship with him though, either you love his vocals or hate them. I fall in the middle personally. The man has a good voice, and decent scream, but I can easily think of people better than him...but also, think of people he's better than. In general, Slipknot gets overrated by their 'maggot' followers, and underrated by guys like Dargon. They are good at what they do, and some members may have more talent than others...but overall, they aren't talentless...but not God-like. |
