So I was flipping through the booklet of The Bends, and at the bottom of one of the pages, it says "dedicated to the late bill hicks". Are they talking the Bill Hicks?
|
Yes, both Tool and Radiohead have been influenced by THE Bill Hicks.

Hmm. All right, although I guess it's not as big on Radiohead's side :p |

Yeah, I think it was more along the lines of them paying tribute to him upon hearing of his death rather than because of any direct influence that he may or may not have had on the band. On a different note.... Dear God, I haven't listened to Tool in months. They really have been out for too long. I should go and dig up Lateralus and Ænima again. |
the drummers will probably appreciate this more than most people
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=335198 its the track that says BOOM BOOM BOOM, see if someone can figure out what 2 parts of what song im playing. its my left foot playing a pedal controlled cowbell i mess up after i start the groove but its a very hard polyrythm |
What does the NP mean, Jake?
It means Now Playing |
How did Bill Hicks die again?
|
>to faith+1^^^hmm i wonder...
|
I find (-) Ions to be an important track, not necessarily just filler. The transition of that into Third Eye is absolutely amazing in my opinion. I get a funny feeling when Bill Hicks is talking in Third Eye as the drums are getting louder. I think it's from (-) Ions setting the mood, because I didn't feel the same way about Third Eye when I heard it on Salival. Wasn't it mentioned previously on here that static is what people hear when they get an OBE? I think that might be why I get that weird feeling. Anyone else have that happen before? I get that feeling nearly every time that I'm really listening to those songs.
|
**** I rarely listen to third eye and much less to ions
|
You should try it out sometime. Sit in a dark room and play the songs loud enough so that no other sounds are heard around you. It's quite an amazing experience when it works.
|
Herb, I Am Vikingcore wants you banned.....
I don't find -ions to be an intro into Third Eye...still a cool track, though. |
woah! why? were?
|
>to faith+1^^^hmm i wonder...
me too

Check in the Questions thread.....he says your belittle the talent of bands or some **** like that.

I'm downloading it as we speak Marshall.
Did you check out those 2 Porcupine Tree tracks? I just got done jamming to em. It was quite fun. :-D |
Bill Hicks died of cancer......which kind, I don't know......
|
I think he got cancer from smoking to much or something
|
I think he got cancer from smoking to much or something
Wouldn't surprise me.....he's smoking on the cover of 'Rant in E-Minor'. |

I'll try that out. Does it work better with some kind of drug? |
I'll try that out. Does it work better with some kind of drug?
No drugs required, but I bet they would enhance it even further (I'm not recommending anything...). But when it works it feels like you've taken drugs. |
Marshall- On the cowbell, are you playing the bass part to the middle section of Lateralus? On the cymbal, you're playing the..cymbal part, right?
|
thx for back up jake.
MJK, answer the comment I left you on my space |

:p that was too easy. i have been expirementing with different tool songs, but actually playing the rythms of different instruments on the cowbell, then playing the drum track with it, its very tedious to learn how to do it. |
Bill Hicks died of pancreatic cancer. Whether it was linked to his drug use (as well as msoking, he also drank heavily at one point in his life, and advocated the use of hallucinogens), I don't know.
|
Herb-Just did! :thumb:
I'm loving Rant in E-Minor.....I don't agree with it all, but I love it...... |
dam he was pretty messed up, non the less a funny and creative guy
|
I uploaded it for you
I used yours. I was gonna download but then I saw the link, I skipped it first time. thanks |

I've actually been doing this a little bit. I'm just starting to learn the concept, but I've been learning and half-writing this deal on my acoustic where with my left hand, I'm doing these relatively slow legato hammer/pulls, and with my right hand, I'm tapping artificial harmonics to create an entire, totally unrelated melody. It's pretty confusing to do multiple things at once. /empathizes with beginning drummers |
Iai sorry to be a bother but one of the only bill hicks cd's I havnt got is dark poet and chance you can upload it for me?
|
The impact Rant In E-Minor had on me when I first heard it was unreal. I count it as one of my favourite albums of all time, regardless of whether or not it's technically music.
The only part of it I found questionable was the skit on "I'm Talking To The Women Here". I still found it funny though. |

I don't like the veiws on the military, because my parents were both soldiers, and I was born on an Army base.

My version of it doesn't have track numbers, so it's basically a random assortment of mp3 files that has a logical order I've yet to find. To be honest, I think there are better Hicks bootlegs, especially I'm Sorry Folks (the crowd heckle him on that one, and he goes INSANE, it's hilarious). I might upload it tomorrow, but it's pretty late here. If I do I'll try and track down the actual order of the tracks. |
****! My download kicked out at 61%!
Meh, I'll redo it tonight. Thanks for all the Bill Hicks, Iai. :-D |

Do you remember when he is talking about shrooms and he is going on "no wonder why you giggle for the first hour to yourself" because shrooms came from a cows ass. Well you see a cow trying to lick its own ass. |
Haha! Never noticed that one before. Nice.
