Apocalyptic Raids 01-03-2007 08:42 PM

Hirax are alright, but they're not really anything special.

Katon is the man though.

playguitar 01-03-2007 09:41 PM
some of those bands on that list really really really blow. For example I've seen some of the new LA thrash bands such as Fueled by Fire, Merciless Death and Warbringer. Warbringer is the only half decent one there. The singer of Merciless Death needs to seriously stop.

Some bands need to completely stop. I saw another LA band once call D.A.F. (Drunk As Fuck) or maybe it was Drunk As Shit) But they were a complete rip-off band. They played 2 songs I can remember one called The Ballad of Mister Miagi and it was totally just S.O.D.'s Ballad of Jimmi Hendrix.

WAX ON
WAX OFF
WAX ON
WAX OFF
YOU'RE DEAD!!

It was retarded.

Additionally, the other song was another rip-off of Nuclear Assault's Hang the Pope. It was a blatant rip-off sounded exactly like the song, only thing was they just said, "Kill a cop, kill a cop kill cop!". If the majority of them would sit down and try to make a song and not rip off other bands it'd be fine.
Dude, exactly. Bands like Fueled by Fire, Hatchet, Merciless Death, Warbringer, Rattlehead, and all the other bands that dress like it's still 1985 are so lame. They are nothing but ripoffs. All they do is take Exodus and Vio-lence riffs, make them unoriginal, and play them. It's all speed picking! And the vocals are horrendous. I think if you put all of them on a compilation cd you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between each band. /Rant

You pretty much described the modern Thrash scene.

There are a couple of exceptions though.

It's sad really. Nothing new is being put into the genre, I don't think that they realize they'll never get anywhere past the local clubs if they aren't interesting. There aren't enough idiot fans to sustain mediocre thrash bands anymore. This doesn't really matter, but I have noticed that all the people into this stuff are Mexican. 95% anyways, it's really funny to see these guys with beaner staches running around with $100 Reeboks, tight pants, denim vests and bullets. It's sad again, they're dressing up, to be thrash, which is exactly what it isn't supposed to be. They're acting like hair metal guys.

FatalEnergy 01-03-2007 11:39 PM

Yeah, it ridiculous. The bad thing was I almost fell into that crap. Luckily I got my head out of my ***. All this new thrash sucks.

Thrash used to be my favorite, but now it's really hard for thrash to impress me. I hardly listen to it anymore sadly. Occasionally I'll listen to Vio-lence or Hypnosia or something, but for some reason it really stopped appealing to me one day.

Apocalyptic Raids 01-03-2007 11:41 PM

It still appeals to me, but I don't listen to it much anymore. It gets to the point where you are just checking out really average bands given how long Thrash's golden period lasted.

FatalEnergy 01-03-2007 11:46 PM

My old band was thrash, and I always thought we were much better than those bands like Merciless Death, because we always saw them as generic and we figured just don't be like them, but after a while I just kind of realized it's all been done before and it's so worn out anyway. It totally put me off.

Exactly, what are you gonna do that Metallica/Slayer/Testament/Vio-lence/Death Angel/Kreator/Megadeth/Sadus/Exodus/Sepultura hasn't already done? Be faster? No. More creative and still sound mostly thrash? No. More technical? No. These bands are all rip-offs of rip-offs. It's thrash for the stupid sake of thrash.

Or maybe it's thrash for the stupid sake of playing the music that you love, without caring what people like YOU think? If people enjoy playing it, so be it. You don't have to listen to it.

pate 01-04-2007 08:51 AM

Okay....he never told them to stop playing.

I don't tell them to stop playing it, it just sounds bad and it's silly. They love it to the point where they're hurting it and giving thrash a bad name.

Hardhat 01-04-2007 02:50 PM

I hardly ever listen to thrash, save Municipal Waste, Ghoul, and a couple Slayer songs. The genre doesn't interest me as much as it used to. No bands are really taking the genre to new levels right now, so it's kind of boring.

Apocalypticon 01-04-2007 04:17 PM

Thrash died in the 80's and early 90's. I don't think it will ever come back, but thats ok cause nothing will ever replace the classics anyway.

Bazarov 01-04-2007 04:34 PM

I guess if it's kept at a local level, I don't really care. But it's bands like Toxic Holocaust that are pretty popular that blatantly rip off bands like Kreator that I have a problem with.

FatalEnergy 01-04-2007 05:33 PM

Thrash now is pretty much a self-parody now. I'll just keep to the classics. The thing is that I rarely even listen to the classics anymore :(

It's just retched the point where it can't grow or stay interesting anymore.

CaptainWaits 01-04-2007 05:37 PM

I'm going on a pretty big Thrash binge right now. Overkill's still my top metal band, but other than them, I've only come to like a couple others (Exodus and Death Angel).

So I'm asking, what are some Thrash groups similar to those that I should look out for??

Maybe try some Dark Angel or Flotsam and Jetsam? I personally don't like the latter but you might.

wrathchild88 01-04-2007 06:36 PM

MEKONG DELTA

eagerly anticipating a new album...

FatalEnergy 01-04-2007 06:45 PM

I really like them. They're very unique

Nuclear Assault, Vio-lence and Exumer

You might already know them though.

CaptainWaits 01-04-2007 10:03 PM

Yeh, I know of all 3, but I still like it when people are re-introducing me to bands like these.

I was huge into Thrash about 2 years ago, but then I lost most of my tastes, and now only listen to those 3 I mentioned. So I'm appreciating it when you guys are mentioning some important bands :)

paraply 01-05-2007 06:00 AM

Testament, Forbidden, Anthrax, Heathen, Annihilator.

FatalEnergy 01-08-2007 01:45 AM

Wow, Onslaught is back with a vengeance. I'm impressed.

I never liked Forbidden, Annihilator, or Heathen. Or Anthrax too much.

Apocalyptic Raids 01-08-2007 02:45 AM

I enjoy Anthrax and Heathen every now and then but there are better bands. Annihilator aren't very good and Forbidden have about 3 good songs. Mind you, Forbidden's good songs absolutely slay.

pate 01-08-2007 08:34 AM

After Testament, I like Heathen the most out of that list.

And I don't think Annihilator is near as bad as everybody says.

God damn, that's an awesome track.

Bazarov 01-08-2007 01:51 PM

wow that's actually nice. I might have to check out their new album when it's released or what not. I have The Force and I've always thought it to be mediocre. And his vocals seem to have improved.

Apocalyptic Raids 01-08-2007 07:30 PM

That wasn't too bad, even if it sounded exactly like modern Sodom.

FatalEnergy 01-08-2007 08:15 PM

More M-16 style not the s/t

Apocalyptic Raids 01-09-2007 08:52 AM

It actually reminded me alot of Lords of Depravity, but yeah, overall M-16 is very much like that.

south_of_heaven 11 01-09-2007 09:23 AM
More M-16 style not the s/t
M-16 is by far one of my favorite albums of all time.
Wow, Onslaught is back with a vengeance. I'm impressed.

http://www.onslaughtfromhell.com/mp3Onslaughtsm.swf
That's pretty sick. I know what I'll be checking out soon.

But there is a newer thrash band that I adore that really has it roots in old-school. They're called Flesh Made Sin...don't know if you guys know them or not cause I really haven't skimmed through this whole thread, but you can find some of their tracks here:

Sweet track. I'm glad I'm getting back into this. :)

Terrorzone 01-15-2007 08:37 PM

So I just downloaded Sons of the Jackal by Legion of the Damned and its pretty much interchangable with their S/T.

Np: Atheist-On They Slay

Apocalyptic Raids 01-15-2007 08:38 PM

I noticed they had a new one out, I probably won't bother with it though.

Terrorzone 01-15-2007 08:43 PM

Yeah, their S/T was good for a few spins, but got old fast. They are a good example with what is wrong with the modern thrash scene.

Apocalyptic Raids 01-15-2007 08:44 PM

Yeah. The only new Thrash I intend on checking out is the new Sauron EP whenever those lazy bastards get around to completing it.

FatalEnergy 01-15-2007 08:45 PM

Sauron never really did much for me. The Total Death cover was cool though

Terrorzone 01-15-2007 08:47 PM

I actually own Thrash Assault, its one of the better retro thrash albums. I haven't heard their new EP, how is it?

Apocalyptic Raids 01-15-2007 09:03 PM

I don't think the new EP is out yet, but I heard a couple of songs from it a while back and it was good from what I remember.
