Law sucks I think I'm gonna take the LSATs but seriously I hate it

Dimmu Burger 05-04-2010 09:12 PM

Dont go to school for something you hate dude.

Against Miik! 05-04-2010 09:14 PM

I'd only pursue it if I do really well because I can't afford it w/o a scholarship

I have heard that a trying to do anything outside of law with a law degree is really hard though because people think you're over qualified

lim 05-04-2010 09:15 PM

people that study law are lizards

except paul
Law sucks I think I'm gonna take the LSATs but seriously I hate it
I love studying my degree, but then again the route to qualification is different here than it is there

TimJim 05-04-2010 09:18 PM

i real lawyer would argue his way out of classes, tests, and the BAR exam

Against Miik! 05-04-2010 09:20 PM
Do not do not do not do not do it if you'll have to pay full tuition, unless you get into a Top-14 school.

And it really isn't an overqualification issue so much as a law degree really doesn't have a lot of intrinsic value.
I think an understanding of law, as well as the type of thinking you need to have to succeed in law school always has an intrinsic value. Unfortunately I don't think employers feel the same way. And yeah I have heard that paying full tuition for a 2nd tier school is worthless.

If that doesn't work out I'll probably take the GMAT too and try to go to grad school for economics.

TimJim 05-04-2010 09:21 PM
Not really since the ABA requires you to attend 80-85% of your classes now, you need the degree to sit for the bar, and you need to sit for and pass the bar to be able to practice tim.
how should i know i am merely a lowly TimJim

2muchket! 05-04-2010 09:22 PM

Yep If I decide to do the bar route in my 4th year then my attendance has to be 100% for the entire year.

You have to be in hospital inches away from death or else they draw negative connotations from it.

Against Miik! 05-04-2010 09:23 PM

lol going to class is the hardest part about school imo

Deth 05-04-2010 09:23 PM

wow that's pretty intense

most of my friends attend like 20% of their classes

TimJim 05-04-2010 09:23 PM

going to class is easy, its the staying awake and taking notes part that is hard

i currently have a 100% attendance record :)

Poet 05-04-2010 09:24 PM

So If I'm ever in trouble I guess I know where to come to hire a lawyer lol.

2muchket! 05-04-2010 09:25 PM

I thought it'd be easy but then most of the people in my seminars are ****ing morons, not the type of people who you'd expect to be studying a masters degree in law.

Good that I found a friend in a older girl who enjoys debating and discussing issue with who's in all of my classes, or else I'd have offed myself.

yaeh but if your facebook statuses are any indication than all you do in your classes is watch shitty movies so it's not hard to show up

2muchket! 05-04-2010 09:28 PM

Tbh I can identify a lot with what you're saying paul, it's all true.

lim 05-04-2010 09:31 PM

gona be a lawyer for mcdonalds gonna lawyer up me some burgers mmmm mm

Against Miik! 05-04-2010 09:32 PM

Yeah Paul thats mostly what I figured. I still wanna take the LSATs, just to see how we'll I'd do, and its not crazy expensive. But I don't exactly have a passion for law at this point.

I usually go to class every day. I think in total I've only missed like 4 classes this semester.

Poet 05-04-2010 09:36 PM

I'm an overachiever and want to keep my Cal Ripken like streak of going to class going. Yay for not missing a single class.
And the people you have to deal with on a daily basis...I'm lucky as hell I found some other laid back friends to make my study group. Let's see....

There's the creepy guy who was obsessed with statutory rape in our criminal law class last semester, then immediately asked about the Roman Polanski case when we started transnational law class this semester. He also thought Chile was the capital of Brazil and announced this to a class of a hundred people.

There's the girl who treats all of us like we're idiot little kids, and talks about how things were done at her firm when she worked there. She's also really fat.

There's the fact that for too many people, hours spent in the law library becomes some perverse form of indie cred.

Also, you do not want to date law school women. Almost 100%. The one or two cool ones become forbidden fruit because if/when things go south, you're absolutely ****ed since you're in school with them for three years and you will most likely be working with them in some capacity once you graduate.
I experienced all of these things to an extent in my undergrad law classes. Except for the last paragraph because most the pre law girls are uggos.

fu man I thought it was funny so I took the pic w/ my CAMERA PHONE

RouteOne 05-04-2010 09:42 PM

I've learned to stay away from bio majors. All they do is lock themselves away in one of the buildings and study for 7 hours straight. Not an exaggeration.

This girl I know gets on campus at 8:00 AM, studies, goes to class, and when her classes are over, she studies more until its like 2:00 in the morning. She sleeps there sometimes. No thanks.
Well it's a combination of uggo factor and the batpoop insane factor. Hell, when I went out for a friend's birthday to the city, some law people I didn't know were there too. They were some of the few cute ones, but they were sitting there talking about the law review writing competition almost the entire night. They left early.

My buddy and i ran into them on the train back to Long Island, and they were talking about cases for class the whole way there.
