got daughters and sawtooth grin confused for some reason and was very confused when i listened to their new album
|
does "carnophage" count as grind? or are they just brutal death?
|
New Daughters is surprisingly decent.
looking forward to new sawtooth
and new circle of dead children, when the fck is it coming
Plz tell me I somehow missed news of Sawtooth Grin reforming? Cuddlemonster and Pervavor are two of the most amazing releases evar. |
Yup but only the guitarist and vocalist. Guy from #12 on drums.
|
Yup but only the guitarist and vocalist. Guy from #12 on drums.
Jon Karel's amazing, so that's fantastic news. Vox don't matter much to me, so that's meh. As long as Jay's playing guitar.... which wikipedia tells me he is, wow, this has got me pretty excited.
|
Their vocalist is ****ing amazing tbh bro.
|
Oh I know he is. His stage presence, delivery, lyrics - he is the definition of a great vocalist, but his inclusion/absence wasn't a deal-killer for me. I've always, always been drawn more to instrumentals than vox. Been that way since my cousin got me into metal like 15+ years ago :) To me, the music spins a more twisted and epic tale than vocals could ever conjure up. I would liken it to an individual's interpretation of a book: each person envisions something different, the experience is always unique. That's not to say that I don't appreciate and enjoy what vocalists bring to bands, it's just that their role hasn't always seemed pivotal to a band's ability to proceed if said member leaves or is replaced. Unless, that is, that said member had a heavy influence on the musical nuances of the unit.

I think vocals can make or break bands.
But I'm a singer so yeah. |
listening to watchmaker
noisy as fukkk |
I think vocals can make or break bands.
But I'm a singer so yeah.
I guess I should specify what I mean. With death metal, and other similar niches, most of the time they seem very interchangeable - with lyrical direction usually being the only element modified. Now, when you take a vocalist that incorporates melody and pitch changes and the like, and brings something completely distinct to the band's sound, I totally agree with you. It's hard for me to reconcile that thinking with grind or death bands, since to me it seems like it wouldn't be too terribly difficult to find someone that can reproduce the desired growl/scream. Though if stage presence and everything else I noted earlier is a determining factor, than yeah, I can definitely see your point. Edit: Lol, and looking at my post, I realize, "why wouldn't a band pay attention to the things I listed?" I doubt any death metal band striving for success would enlist a lobotomized grunt who stands on stage, drooling uncontrollably and filling their pants with feces. Eating my words, I am. |
I like when singers change pitches a lot. That's why I do that.

Uggggghhhhhhh Legion rules so ****ing hard. Band is insanely under-apreeshed.
|
yeah they're basically on every local bill but they're always so ****ing intense. i'd say they're better than 90% of the touring bands who play here.
also, **** the facts, melvins, thou, salome, young widows, tombs, and end of a year playing in the next month or so |
