Silhouette. It's such a beautiful piece.. I hope Per does something like that on the next album.

I enjoyed that Reverie part thing he did on GR. That was pretty cool.

Oh definitely, I'd love to hear more piano work like that.

Yup.

(although I think Silhouette is kind of lame myself, I think he can do better than that)

Epilogue is fantastic too, I just remembered.

Moses 02-26-2006 11:28 PM

Silhouette is okay, kind of amatuer like most early Opeth.

Per is kind of lame for me in general I think, I mean he has his cool little backround things but I can't say he's that great of an addition to the band.

I tend to agree. Well I guess not really; I like most of his work on GR, but I just don't know if having a permanent keyboard player is really a great idea...it makes it necessary to work keyboard into every song, etc.

Moses 02-26-2006 11:47 PM

I just noticed I really like the last half of The Twilight is My Robe but not the first half before the bass solo part. I also find myself liking parts of their early songs more than the whole songs themselves.

Me too, well at least on Orchid. (Morningrise is a different story) The parts just seem tossed together to make songs, but some of the individual parts are brilliant.

Did you see the Lamentations DVD? He had some great playing on that. I also really liked what he did in "Atonement."

It's my favourite moment on the album. I wish it was more than a little interlude, it's bloody beautiful.

Do you mean in the actual performance or the song? The performance isn't the best, he's a bit sloppy, but I think it's a really interesting, well-written piece.

What Reverie part are you talking about?

penelope weird hands 02-27-2006 11:09 AM
What Reverie part are you talking about?
That little piece with the gap between the end of Atonement and Harlequin Forest.

Sorry to be off topic.. but, my word..
Opeth holds an imaginitive paradise in their music.
Unique and dissimilar to anything that's ever been produced.
Repeated spins of their albums only gives me more to listen to.
Subtle bits I've never focused on before...
You know?

Amazing.

Biancazzurri 02-27-2006 11:48 AM
I now see why people consider Opeth the greatest band on Earth. Still not there in my book, but it's in my top 10.

Oh, by the way, anybody who goes to the concert, be prepared for a night of comedy and kickass music.

Setlist (somewhat in order...):
Ghost Of Perdition
White Cluster
The Amen Corner
Baying Of The Hounds
Under A Weeping Moon
Closure
The Grand Conjuration
The Drapery Falls
Deliverance (encore)

Setlist still leaves something to be desired though...
i think you need to listen to mornignrise and blackwaterpark more.

I don't think there's been enough of Per to call him lame. He's only performed on one album and hopefully, as time progresses and Mikael gets more used to composing songs with keyboard parts, he should be more of an active and valuable addition to the band.

i am the robots 02-27-2006 12:46 PM

Per is a good thing for the band, yet another kick *** element.

Stoo 02-27-2006 01:01 PM

Surely you can have this arguement after the next album? Not really getting anywhere... Not heard enough of Per to comment.

Whenever I watch that DVD I can't take my eyes off Martin Lopez - he's amazing

and makes it look soooo easy.

PS anyone else noticed the bogey in Mikael's nose? The camera dwells on it far too much in places

Uh, isn't that mainly guitar? I'm assuming you mean he wrote it.

Haha, yeah, the nose shots in Lamentations are pretty gross. I'm not really sure if that's a bogey or just his weird gross nose.

He adds to old songs during live shows.

Mikael has big nostrils. i bet you can fit those big marbles in there. My only complaint about the lamentations DVD is that i wish there was backstage stuff, or stuff they do on their bus.
The documentary of damnation and deliverance was pretty good. Except that it coulda used scenes

EDIT: 666th post whoo

Definitely. Epilogue is easily one of my favorite Intrumentals ever. I like it when the twin leads come in at the end, it's such a great mesh of beauty.

Can someone please send me Still Day Beneath the Sun?

Thanks!

Shattered_Future 02-27-2006 06:53 PM

Closure live was quite awesome. Per had a sweet keyboard solo (though you couldn't really hear it...he was mixed mad low), and Mike had a 12 string PRS he played the whole song on.
