Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers - Moanin'
Excellent.

pixiesfanyo 01-09-2006 08:48 PM

Autechre is pretty great.

I'm diggin' on Amber at the moment.

It's electronica, for those who didn't know.

Happymeal 01-09-2006 09:25 PM

Listening to some songs from Goblin ****.. stoner-ish metal band in which Rob Crow(Pinback, Heavy Vegetable, etc) sings in. It's kind of boring so far, since his singing mixed with the slow, repetitive riffing is NOT a good combination. lol @ album cover

Incunabla and Tri Repeate are the best.

ATDI - In/Casino/Out
Converge - Jane Doe
The Magic Numbers (Iai's front page RYM review made me give it a second chance)
I've been listening to Danse Macabre by The Faint. I stumbled upon them today at my friend's house and I am in love with them. I love Glass Danse and The Conductor.
I enjoy the music of The Faint.

Matisyahu
Stars

Yet another odd combo.

Little Man being Erased 01-10-2006 12:16 AM

Pulp - Different Class
The Strokes - First Impressions of Earth

morrissey2 01-10-2006 01:45 AM

Nice, Pulp.

Serge Gainsbourg

pixiesfanyo 01-10-2006 09:11 AM

Fantomas - The Director's Cut

You know, it's like DEP if they were poppy and not insane. I enjoy it.
So who else noticed this noise-snack kid who has three posts and great taste?
I did... nice to get some new blood. Hopefully he'll stick around.

Digging:
Strønen/Storløkken - Humcrush
It's an improv electronic/jazz group with the drummer from Food (Strønen) and the keyboardist from Supersilent (Storløkken). They create very playful and seemingly choreographed work. The interplay between these two musicians is very impressive, recommended to fans of the genre.

I saw one of their videos through the magic of On Demand cable. It was neat. But I can see how it would get boring.

While on the subject of Rob Crow, one band I've been semi-diggin' lately is Team Sleep, which has Rob Crow doing some guest vocals on some songs.

Dog 01-10-2006 04:48 PM

Man Man - Six Demon Bag
Carnival-like arrangements with sleazy vocals. It rules. I wish I could find their first album somewhere :(

The Gories - I Know You Fine, But How You Doin'
Detroit-based garage rock. Recommended for fans of The Dirtbombs and the like.

My Morning Jacket - Z
Completely different than anything else MMJ have done. They dropped their country sound and added a dream pop element.

Horrible Rob Crow project. Even worse than Pinback.

Against Me! - As the Eternal Cowboy
Against Me! - Acoustic EP
Against Me! - Reinventing of Axl Rose

I can see a pattern.

The Godfathers - This Damn Nation.

Luxor 01-10-2006 07:10 PM

Broken Social Scene and Envy.

mentalstephanie 01-10-2006 07:11 PM

I looooove this band called Rogue Wave. The single, Nourishment Nation, is really fun. Anyone else listen to them?

Daniel! 01-10-2006 09:11 PM

Creedence Clearwater Revival

John Fogerty has one of the greatest voices ever.

I've heard a few tracks from Man Man and they are pretty sweet.

Today:
more Matisyahu - From the Dust...Arise. I dig this guy. His music makes me want to convert to Judaism and grow a beard and rap about politics and stuff.

The Blood Brothers - Crimes. I have decided that the sass is pretty sexy, in an hXc way.

Apostle of Hustle - Folkloric Feel. This outfit is from Canada, and have members in Broken Social Scene. They are pretty similar to BSS in music style and taste, but feature more nice acoustics.

I don't agree with you but I do really really enjoy First Impressions of Earth.

Tom Waits - Closing Time
Ryan Adams and the Cardinals - Jacksonville City Nights

Anyone here ever listen to Longpigs? They're a decent band.

Gasp. But Pinback's his best project!

Bartender 01-11-2006 07:00 AM

Got Help! for Christmas, so I've been listening to that. Probably don't need to expand on it much, though. I've also been discovering that I like the White Stripes more than I thought I did, through De Stijl, another gift.

Winnebago Deal. Finally got around to buying some stuff by them, having listening to a couple of free downloaded tracks for a couple of years. Just really good, loud rock. Impressive that so much noise can be made by just two guys. Three if you count Jack Endino, I suppose.

Also got the new Meads of Asphodel album, which sounds great so far. More of the same (Middle East-influenced black-metal-punk-space-rock-drum'n'bass) really, but..well, I want more of the same, damn it. Finally picked up their split with Mayhem too, after far too long putting it off, but I've not listened to that yet.

I also believe I have a package waiting for me downstairs (which I can't get to until the lazy staff decide to come back from their, so far, two hour break), wherein I will find, nestling amongst several books and other stuff, Double Nickels on the Dime. I got tired of never seeing it available for a decent price, so I just gave up and bought it for full price. It'd better be worth it.

Strokes - First Impressions of Earth

queenbeerocks 01-11-2006 09:46 AM

anyone heard of third eye blind?? they do stuff for the smallville soundtrack and it has a sumwhat cheesy vibe to it, but i'm hooked!
Sun City Girls - Torch of the Mystics

This is a lot more normal than I thought it would be. Fairly pleasant, even. It's like tame Butthole Surfers/Volcano Suns-ish garage jamming.

Wolf Eyes - Burned Mind

Fuck this stupid shit.

The Strokes - First Impressions of Earth

I may be the only one with this opinion, but FTIE blows away Is This It? . Then again, ITI kind of sucks.
omg how can you say that Is This It sucks?? new york city cops and last nite are the best!!
