Tool? Not Satanic in the least. They are a great band with a message of: 'Think for Yourself, Question Authority.' Ask your father why he thinks that particular album is Satanic. There is virtually no cursing (the F-Bomb in Ticks and Leeches is hard to pick out at the first listen, but you can), although Ænema makes up for any swearing since.

There are no Satanic themes:

The Grudge: Forgiveness.

Eon Blue Apocalypse: The end of something (I believe).

The Patient: Patience is a virtue in any relationship.

Mantra: Monotany and Boring Repetition.

Schism: Rift in a relationship, longing to reunite.

Parabol/Parabola: Love, the feeling of euphoria.

Ticks and Leeches: Facing demons.

Lateralus(is): Spiritual ascendancy, spiritual truth

D/R/T: A change/casting away your old, shallow self/reaped rewards.

Fiaap de Oiad: Ultimate truth.

End of discussion.
I really like your view on Lateralus.

Syncratic 08-04-2005 05:09 PM

Thank you....I was planning on writing an essay for it if I needed to for English class or something, but I don't think that'd pan out well, considering I kinda suck at intepretations.

Well I feel sorry for the way blair gets treated he really cant say a word because he risks his job badly.

I have no clue when the new album is gonna be out if it is a double disc I had a theory that I probably am still gonna stick beside.

He does catch a lot of flack, and I understand he does this stuff for a reason, but it's downright irritating sometimes.

As for the album, well...........I hope it's longer than Lateralus, it very well could be a double disc....we'll see.

Yeah the "official" thing said it would be about the moon so I though one disc the sun the other the moon, cool?

BlindWriting 08-04-2005 06:51 PM

I don't think there's really anything else to say at this point. Once the new album comes, it'll be a madhouse, but for now, we just have to wait.

Very vague descriptions, yet concise. As for the whole Lateralus being satanic topic, let us keep in mind that Schism has direct ties to The Great Schism formed between Catholic and Protestant branches of Christianity. That is where the term "schism' came from in the first place, wasn't it? How is writing a song about Christianity Satanic?

Oh well, glad to see you got the album back, as it's one of the greatest albums ever conceived.

Jake's realization on the new album
Well, not so much a realization, but more of a in-progress theory- From what i learned from speculation, Maynard and the rest of Tool perhaps have a thing for the Pagan concepts involving yin and yang- Opposites attracting to form a supreme being. Eg. Parabol/a is a 2 part song- The intro being quiet, the rest being heavy, and also the song sounds like it could be about sex, the 'ultimate union of 2.'

The rumors of the album being about light and dark seem to tie in well here.

Just a thought/topic starter

Moses 08-04-2005 09:52 PM

Listen to these tracks in this order on Lateralus and you'll see that it is darker than the rest of the albums.

Schism
Eon Blue Apacalypse
The Patient
Parabol (not Parabola)
Ticks and Leeches
D/R/T
The Grudge

Mr Herb 08-04-2005 09:53 PM

Id like to know what was laterlaus supposed to be about. . .

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-04-2005 09:55 PM

Okay, heres another thought:

What do you think Maynard would do if a fan captured him and tortured him until Maynard told him what all of the songs were about?

Do you think he would tell, or die with the mystical answers?

Huber 08-04-2005 09:55 PM

the song?

To become something greater about sums it up.

He would transform into a spiritual being, turn back time, and before the fan captured him, he would know this was happening and would proceed to kick his ass as he's done to other fans.

Either that, or just die with the answers.

Huber 08-04-2005 10:00 PM

I have a feeling Maynard would be smart enough to realize that dying to hide the meanings of his songs would be dumb.

I like the idea...just show the whole kidnapping thing to Blair, he'll claim that he is a psychic alien who knew it all along.

Jake, I just got the general idea for all of the songs, so that's why, perhaps, they are vauge.

Schism? I think it's about ultimate division in general, not just the church, but a relationship ("set two lover's souls in motion"). So, I think that's what it is............

I didn't Get the album back....He still has it...that's why I came, it's a great forum yall

I don't know if he thinks the album itself is satanic. one of his little friends
apperantly told him they were, He's kinda stubbern so he hasn't listened to it
(and probably won't) it would be awsome if he did though!

kurrpt 08-05-2005 12:09 PM

SOOOooooo

whens the album coming out?

Dried Muffin Remnants 08-05-2005 12:11 PM

I like to think that the lyrics of the songs in Lateralus are purposely vague in general. These abstrct lyrics happen to be my favorite because they make you think instead of telling you what their opinion of something is. Schism, in my opinion, is just about schisms in general.

One of the things I don't like about Aenima is that most of the songs have a concrete meaning. Stinkfist IS about desensitization, Eulogy IS about false martyrs...etc.

Moses 08-05-2005 12:11 PM

@kurppt: Is that the only thing you ever say when you come in here?

Well seems like it could be the 26th of September like the rumor.

Syncratic 08-05-2005 12:13 PM
One of the things I don't like about Aenima is that most of the songs have a concrete meaning. Stinkfist IS about desensitization, Eulogy IS about false martyrs...etc.
That's a progression that I like....Ænima's messages were pretty straightforward, and Lateralus's messages were abstract, allowing you to fill in the blanks. I like the idea of them exploring both sides of messages.

Moses 08-05-2005 12:17 PM

I liked Aenima's better because there was more of a puzzle to solve and there was an answer. Lateralus is kind of annoying in the way that you'll never have a straight answer. Poetry-wise I like Aenima better because it used clever and more metaphors.
