What is the title of this thread meant to mean?

"Look your last upon the sun"
Everytime I read this something inside me dies because it sounds so stupid.
Should it be read as 'Look, your('re) last upon the sun'
Or 'Look your last (insert words/meaning here) upon the sun'

;\

Y(H)elp..!~

To add more to the post..(if there isn't a singular meaning).. what does everyone else make of these words?

EDIT: The Funeral Portrait > Demon Of The Fall *run/hide*
I went through a 'goth' stage and since then people keep telling me im satanic. Now i back to jeans and band t-shirts. but is fun to scare people. In my geometry class i hoked my mp3 player to the computer speakers and played 'Master's Apprentices'. Their looks were pricless. The only ones who liked it were me and my guitarist.

But like you said, most of the metal heads i know are good guys. You can listen to Opeth and still open a door for someone.
Oh God, after pit one day, my friend and I plugged an amp into an outlet out in the hall and started playing Master's Apprentices on guitar and bass. I started singing right as an Asian chick walked by.

Long story short, she starts moving rather quickly as she goes by. :p

Look Your Last Upon The Sun is a common Opeth saying. It's on a bunch of their shirts and whatnot.

I bought a Still Life tee at the concert. *sexy*

I take it you're none to familiar with the english language? In layman's terms it would be something like "Take your last look at the sun",

Not cool, Ted. Not cool.

Darkness 02-26-2006 01:40 PM
You learn to appreciate it when you see it live. :)
This is true. Believe it or not, it's even more evil live.

penelope weird hands 02-26-2006 01:41 PM

haha exactly, thanks Det_Nosnip.
I saw also.

invisiman: Hi, thanks for your borderline 'kill-that-n00b-according-to-posts' account of the meaning. That was funny. But only because you fvcked it up and someone pointed out how much you fvcked it up. Die.

So .. OK.. there's a silent 'Take' on the title!? (invisiman style'zzzzzz)

Or..
Are these lyrics of any song?
I heard (vague memory) that they were on an Opeth shirt?

All I wish to do is to give myself greater understanding as to why it is there and what it means.

Darkness 02-26-2006 01:44 PM

The saying is on some Damnation era T-shirts, one of which I own. :)

You can also get those back patch things with it on there also.

Way to overract towards someone who answered your question.
Way to overract towards someone who answered your question.
I react in such a way when someone says something ridiculous about me not knowing the language I speak when they could simply just answer the question without resorting to such assumptions.

Is that so bad?

Darkness 02-26-2006 01:59 PM

It's not important...

So I'm seeing Opeth March 8th...

Calm down and go play Metroid.

I'll be going to the Minneapolis show next weekend, March 4th. It's going to kick ass!

That's awesome dude. I'm still not super happy with the setlist though.. I really want to see BWP and FOM live. :upset:
Calm down and go play Metroid.
Hahaha. Nice, I probably will!
I'm calm, I just appreciate 'eye to eye' conversations and constructive answers/criticism.
No matter what medium.

I will see Opeth on April 20th.
I wonder if the show will beat the Pantera and Tool shows I've seen in the past!
I hope the venue doesn't suck too much either.

Funny, because my mates have heard very little of Opeth and many dislike them.
But, they're all going to the show at my request.

I think this show will make fans of them. ;}

I bet they're going to play Bleak and Godhead's Lament just to piss you off. ;)

I'd boo them then leave. :p

MidnightRider 02-26-2006 03:09 PM

Then you'd be swarmed by an angry mob of Opeth fans.

I'd school them all with my vast knowledge of the band. :smoke:
I have medium - longish hair, only wear black band t-shirts, and jeans... I'm a freak.
No thats standerd metalhead. THat looks good. What people get confused is being GOTH PEOPLE IS NOT METAL. So your not the freak don't worry.
I bet they're going to play Bleak and Godhead's Lament just to piss you off.
I don't see what so great about Bleak either. But Dunkel how can you not like that vocal line in Godheads Lament :O :O :O
Do they ever play Godheads live?
Oh God, after pit one day, my friend and I plugged an amp into an outlet out in the hall and started playing Master's Apprentices on guitar and bass. I started singing right as an Asian chick walked by.
Its funny to do that. Play on your metalhead status.
Yeah because everyone at school (and everyones friends at this grade level) esepically my close mates think its funny me as a metalhead I sometimes joke and play on it. Like a girls mucks around and says she wants to get pissed and listen to metal with me one night (I can't wait :D). My friend when we listen to tunes together on a pod at lunch time I headbang and everyone thinks its funny how much I know and get into it.

Darkness 02-26-2006 03:29 PM

mms://straum.nrk.no/Musikk/2003-06-16/Opeth_300k.wmv

They sure do play it live. I donno, I guess I just think the song is predictable. Since it's considered the "standard Opeth song", or something...

TojesDolan 02-26-2006 03:30 PM

Yeah but fists and broken bottles are much, much more damaging than knowledge. :p

And what Penelope yabadayabada says was also my doubt for a second there... I thought it was a line from a song or something...

Same with the people I'm going with, they really don't know Opeth, but I'm sure that will change after the show.

UpperDecker 02-26-2006 07:46 PM

For Absent Friends, is anyone else kinda bored by this song? Its not bad but i always end up skipping it. Its like a little thing one of the guitarists came up with and just decided to put it on the album. Any thoughts?

Shattered_Future 02-26-2006 07:47 PM

My friend knew a couple of Opeth songs, but overall seemed to be relatively new to them.

I'm positive his opinion changed after we came back from the concert.

Aren't most of the short instrumental ditties like that though? I never really found anything special with any of them...

Darkness 02-26-2006 07:52 PM

I like all of them personally, they really help break up the albums. Patterns in the Ivy is probably my favorite.

Deth 02-26-2006 07:54 PM

Same for me.

MidnightRider 02-26-2006 08:21 PM

Same for me, though I love all of them.

Jude 02-26-2006 08:59 PM

Requiem is easily my favorite.

TojesDolan 02-26-2006 09:45 PM

I still have to listen "For absent friends"...

but Ending Credits for me. It's not that small, though. If that can't be considered as such, then... eh... uh... eh, Requiem is up there.
