During recording the other day, we did this thing where I was using a delay and volume swells and I played this little melody. Then we did another take where, using the same method, I played the melody backwards and we reversed it in Cubase. It gives the part this cool fade in/out thing.

You need to listen to the solo at the very end of Barenaked Ladies' "Pinch Me."

So I just found out that in england we're apparently odd for mixing our weed with tobacco. Does that mean you lot just smoke blunts the whole time?

burtonbassist_102 04-22-2010 07:20 PM

Well I don't, but that seems to be the norm, yeah.

karmapavementplan 04-23-2010 02:32 AM

it must be ridiculously cheap over there to smoke it like that. What are your prices like? Over here it's about £20-25 for an eighth.

An eighth of chronic is $35-$45 here. I couldn't even tell you what the regular stuff runs, except that an ounce of it is ~$50-$60.

Over here, most only spliff it (weed + tobacco = spliff) when rolling blunts with chronic. I was always a big glass user, personally, so I never mixed either. Now, I'm drug-free for work.

That reminds me, my old bongs will be sold by the end of this month. I need the tuition money. :upset:

karmapavementplan 04-23-2010 09:14 AM

$50 for an ounce? That's insane!

FunkMetalBass 04-23-2010 09:41 AM
$50 for an ounce? That's insane!
If you're lucky and have a good dealer, $50 is a good price for an ounce.

Chronic is about $380 for an ounce.

We'll see what happens when it's legalized, though.

Spaceman Spiff 04-23-2010 10:13 AM

If I ever encounter something that's $50 for an ounce, I will avoid it at all costs. It is most likely total garbage.

And I used to put tobacco in my joints, but not anymore because it's filthy.

Also, using tobacco, we just call it batching a joint.

A blunt is a joint rolled in a cigar paper.

A joint, spliff, dub, dank, dankstick, doobie, these are all different names for the "marijuana cigarette", if you will, with or without tobacco.

Gattsu347 04-23-2010 11:03 AM

the grower i sell for gets me for 220 an ounce. They are the best strains from the best place in the country to grow. to friends i get them for 250, for connect, 270, and for strangers 300.

Spaceman Spiff 04-23-2010 11:19 AM

Purple Kush. $300 an ounce. That's what I get.

Well, I can get it for a bit less because I'm close with my guy, but that's generally the price to make profits. A pound of it tends to go for about $3500.

FunkMetalBass 04-23-2010 11:58 AM

I used to get phenomenal stuff from the medical facilities in California. Pretty much fantastic stuff because they can grow it in mass quantities and use regulated facilities to make them grow to the absolute best.

Is there a strong possibility of it getting legalised over there?

burtonbassist_102 04-23-2010 01:07 PM

It's a huge debate right now. The more that I hear about it, the more it's sounding like it could happen.

But you never know.

Gattsu347 04-23-2010 01:21 PM

a very important super-decriminalization bill is on the ballot in California for november. I personally dont believe (or want) it to pass, for my own reasons, but it will be interesting to see if it does pass, what the federal government has to say about it.

Spaceman Spiff 04-23-2010 01:30 PM

It doesn't need to be made legal, just stop harassing and arresting people so senselessly. Smoking a joint isn't going to hurt anybody.

burtonbassist_102 04-23-2010 01:42 PM

I just don't understand why it's illegal in the first place. I don't smoke pot, and I don't really plan on doing it, but I have a lot of friends who do and it really doesn't do any more harm to someone than alcohol does.

Gattsu347 04-23-2010 02:26 PM

the original law was based off mexican immigrants being stereotyped as criminals during the 1920's.
Is there a strong possibility of it getting legalised over there?
It is. It's gotten much more lax in regards to public openness about it, and for medicinal purposes, it's legal in a few states. Currently, California is proposing complete legalization, and it has a very strong possibility of passing. Many other states are also putting the legalized medicinal marijuana on their ballots this May as well (my state included).

That's one of the big arguments, and why a few states are so relaxed about it. Only a few states are so legally against it that it actually results in jail time. Places like Maryland have nothing more than a $20 ticket for possession of anything less than an ounce.

It'll disgust you when you research it. In essence, it was a combination of three things - the cotton industry, racism, and government bureaucracies.

William Randolph Hurst had a lot of money tied into cotton because newspaper is made from a cotton/paper blend. More and more, it was known that hemp not only grew faster and more bountiful than cotton plants, but was stronger and considerably cheaper to produce. He stood to lose a lot of money if hemp took over as an industrial material.

Race was still an issue back then, and cannabis, prevalent among lower-class black and Mexican immigrants, was the way in which Hurst was able to get at the public heart strings. Since yellow journalism hadn't been outlawed, he started printing articles depicting the minorities in a horrifically negative light (crime, raping women and children, etc) and attributing it to the use of "marijuana," which is actually just a Mexican word for the type of tobacco.

On top of that, Prohibition had ended, and the government was still pumping millions of dollars into this agency that no longer had any money-making substances to attack other than opium, which didn't have a strong enough presence in America to make a difference. Furthermore, the government had no easy means of taxing it. Couple that with the yellow journalism, the outraged white middle and upper class population, and the desire to keep tax money funding "worthwhile" programs, it didn't take long before "marijuana" was made illegal.

I recommend you look into it for yourself. Seriously, it's very interesting stuff and very widely available. Even though I don't smoke anymore (and never did much anyways), I'm going to vote for its legalization because I've always felt that it was so unjustly criminalized.

Try and find the documentary "Grass," as a follow up to this, it's very good, albeit biased. Although it's hard to not be biased when it comes to things that are illegal for no apparent reason.

Do you like pain? Do you like ridiculous amounts of pain? Do you like stupid ungodly amounts of pain? Pain like you don't even understand? Try this: Go to the gym. Start off doing 30 bodyweight squats to warm up. Then, do TEN sets of TEN reps at 200 lbs in under 30 minutes. TRY IT MOTHER ****ER. I ****IN DARE YOU.

Oh wow, you're so tough... and cool. I'm not manly enough to inflict pain on myself just to look like a sweaty anal bead.

Mike Patton's Mondo Cane is awesome.

Covers of Italian pop songs played with an orchestra.

And here - bakewell tart in hand - is a shot which actually shows how big my cab is, seeing as the last one was misleading :/ Actually looks like a proper bass rig now, which is kinda cool. Other cab is relegated to having the bin stood on it.

That's hilarious.

His spoken word show that I saw recently was awesome.
