adhd and social anxiety are like the adbs of disorders

nobody should pay attention to them
agreed

The Feeding 04-26-2009 07:40 PM

that sux, i dunno my IQ but apparantly i'm kinda crazy. I got a psychological evaluation a few years back and the outcome wasn't good. Oh well i also have anxiety and depression among a few other things. I feel for you bro, you could always start picking up hookers and killing them. That might help...

rasputin 04-26-2009 07:43 PM

you should throw the water cool out of the window i hear it's all the rage

imadinosaur 04-26-2009 07:44 PM

I've been diagnosed with ADHD (amongst other things), and I can tell you no amount of medication will help you unless you have some amount of mental willpower as well.

A lot of **** like this is not that hard to overcome, and you can be doped up as much as they want to dope you up and it won't do any good if you're not aware of what's going on and also make a conscious effort to fix it yourself.

I went through my entire childhood on heavy combinations of meds until I took myself off of them at around 16 or 17 and decided to take control of my own mind. That's the power of personal will.

Jaundice 04-26-2009 07:44 PM

To this day I have still yet to get a genuinely legit evaluation, in that I've always held back from mentioning the full scope of my problems. Plus input from my parents may occasionally be falsified which gets in the way of accuracy.

I've been on and off of antipsychotics and antidepressants for the past couple of years but I've never been on anything long enough to really affect me, and I've had to lie about negative side effects enough times that no one really wants to put me on anything again.

hahahahha

asperger's sounds like a load of crap mostly though tbh. it's like, jesus christ he's interested in weird stuff and is socially unskilled he must be autistic.

RouteOne 04-26-2009 07:52 PM

I personally think ADD and ADHD are largely BS. Its just how somoene is. There are genuine cases where it is a real problem, but overall I think it is wayyyy over diagnosed. Especially with young kids.

masscows 04-26-2009 07:53 PM

well most disorders that you're born with are "just how you are" but they impair functioning in our society which demands certain things of people

we're animals remember

The Feeding 04-26-2009 07:55 PM

we have to behave a certain way for society basically

This^^^^

Like I said, my ADHD was largely overcome by me, after I took myself off of meds. These disorders are definitely over-diagnosed and way over medicated.

My bipolarity is still an issue, but I've also come to realise that just because someone can exhibit emotional extremes doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong with thier chemical balance. I'm basically just a very emotional person...

My insomnia though...that's a different story...largely caused by night terrors and sleep paralysis.

RouteOne 04-26-2009 07:56 PM

I probably would register as somoene that would need some sort of meds. I don't really feel "happy" most of the time, have trouble concentrating on things, I have days where I think about violence a lot and so on (not to the extent where I'd ever DO somehting violent. I just think about it).

Jaundice 04-26-2009 07:57 PM

Aspergers is a condition that leaves a lot of room for misdiagnosing. Also, a lot of people will diagnose themselves because it makes them feel important. These are the ones who will call themselves "aspies" and talk about "NT people." This is all annoying for certain.

I could do without the tag itself. When I was diagnosed, my parents told everyone, and everyone told everyone else, and now I'm not allowed to do anything that's not completely and utterly normal without it being blamed on "Autism" and people treat me like I have Down's Syndrome. Ha, I don't even want to get into the whole deal about getting put into special ed at school.

I don't know how much I even believe the hype anymore, anyway. I'm a pretty normal person once you really think about it.

nevertoolate 04-26-2009 07:58 PM

It's amazing how common those diagnoses are now tho.......

The Feeding 04-26-2009 07:58 PM

that's kinda the same boat i'm in. I have been diagnosed with a few things but refuse to take meds, makes you numb.

RouteOne 04-26-2009 07:59 PM

I also sort of become super aware of little things when i'm in public or surrounded by people. I space out when looking at something or when I see a mannerism I think it odd and I over think it.

Yeah, I over think things way too much. Causes unessecary stress most of the time.

now thats funny mofo....lol

Jaundice 04-26-2009 08:08 PM

I used to be way out there when I was younger, there are probably people on this forum who can confirm this. Anyway I ran into so much confrontation that most of my eccentricity naturally faded away. At this point I barely even have any really noticeable quirks.

The only strongly bizarre characteristic I have at this point in life is a completely excessive imagination which causes me to still have numerous imaginary friends even at the age of seventeen. Other than that, normal guy.

The Feeding 04-26-2009 08:08 PM
