I'm going to see Opeth on Tuesday (28th)... it's going to be hilarious because the place they are playing at just turned into a country bar called Cowboys.

So yeah... Opeth Tuesday!!! Yee haw?

That will be hilarious. Some country fans will come in for a hoedown (spelling?), but will instead be treated to the lovely sounds of opeth.

Man, I hope they intro with something really heavy. Like Deliverance... :p

Kaiwaz 02-25-2006 04:56 PM

Yeah, or Karma. The intro is ungodly heavy.

I now see why people consider Opeth the greatest band on Earth. Still not there in my book, but it's in my top 10.

Oh, by the way, anybody who goes to the concert, be prepared for a night of comedy and kickass music.

Setlist (somewhat in order...):
Ghost Of Perdition
White Cluster
The Amen Corner
Baying Of The Hounds
Under A Weeping Moon
Closure
The Grand Conjuration
The Drapery Falls
Deliverance (encore)

Setlist still leaves something to be desired though...

Jude 02-25-2006 05:27 PM

Whoa, no Demon?

Weird.

I do wish they would play Blackwater Park as the encore though. It's probably the best encore song they have.

Kaiwaz 02-25-2006 05:47 PM

^^ Yeah, or In Mist She Was Standing. I love the outro in that song and would definitely love to see them play it live.

GR has really been growing on me as of late. I've not been listening to much of Damnation and more of the heavier stuff.

I think it's not that Opeth is the "best band in the world". I think the most people(fans of all genres) can all enjoy Opeth and agree on that.

Fans of all genres can, but a lot of death and black metal elitists say that Opeth is poser music etc., I say those kids are homos.

I've never heard ANYONE say Opeth is poser music.

There's nothing watered down or scene following about their music at all.. haha.

Just mention that you like Opeth in the black metal thread, or try talking about them in the death metal thread (they're much less elitist there now). Try mentioning them in Metal Archives.

Yeah, I'll be there too, if I can shake this fever in time.

Opeth are really taking a critical beating from some circles, especially after GR. Check out the reviews of some Opeth on Metal Archives. (to above post)

i am the robots 02-25-2006 07:59 PM

Yeah, it's really irritating, kids on Metal Archives always mention that Opeth is either too popular, too forced, not true enough, too repetative, too unoriginal, too bland, or all of the above CONSTANTLY.

Woah, those are some strange song choices. I've never heard... 5 of those songs live, it's gonna be amazing!

Stormrider 02-25-2006 08:33 PM

I have to point this out. I love the outro to The Night and the Silent Water. Especialy where Mikael comes in.

Yea, they took out a bunch of fan favorites in favor of others...

I have to say though, those songs that weren't usually played live were excellent.
For some reason I always envisioned metalheads to be nicer guys. Sure, you can be a badass. Listen to the most extreme music ever written, walk around in black with bullet belts and long hair, flaunting some obscure band on your shirt. I love the metal image. But when people expect metal guys to be very cold, inconsiderate people I like to prove them wrong. No negative behavior should be permanently attached to a genre of music. It's always funny to surprise people by dressing like a stereotypical metalhead and then turning out to be a very polite person.
God you think exactely like me. It good to know Ben ;) I am the only extreme metalhead at my school and everyone just thinks its funny beacuse I am viewed as a really nice guy. I also don't look that metal I am growing my hair but I am hardly metal looking yet.

Sometimes I wish I actually knew guys from MX to form a metal band with :(

Can't wait Opeth in two months.

Shattered_Future 02-25-2006 09:46 PM

Bunch of my friends are metalheads...you wouldn't tell it by looking at them, but they're some of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.

I like to scare people with my looks (it's always fun) and then completely shatter their notions of what I'm supposed to act like by being nice and courteous.

I went through a 'goth' stage and since then people keep telling me im satanic. Now i back to jeans and band t-shirts. but is fun to scare people. In my geometry class i hoked my mp3 player to the computer speakers and played 'Master's Apprentices'. Their looks were pricless. The only ones who liked it were me and my guitarist.

But like you said, most of the metal heads i know are good guys. You can listen to Opeth and still open a door for someone.

Det_Nosnip 02-25-2006 10:48 PM

Heh...I'm actually pretty "normal" looking. I only own 2 band shirts, and wear those very infrequently. People who find out that I listen to metal are usually pretty shocked...which is kinda nice in a way. I don't like people having a preconceived notion of who I am.

Crysiss 02-26-2006 12:16 AM

I must be the least metal looking person in R&M, I wear Rappers clothing lines. Gotta look good for em ladies in my town.

But i did go through a goth stage about a year and a half ago, Wearing a load of chains, bracelets, Black Clothes. I kinda thought i seemed too poser so i just dress the way i like to look.

Darkness 02-26-2006 12:21 AM

I have medium - longish hair, only wear black band t-shirts, and jeans... I'm a freak. :upset:

Crysiss 02-26-2006 12:38 AM

Your pretty much a basic metal guy. Theres lots of people like you. dont feel bad. :P

I actually don't mind that title, as long as I'm not sterotyped with the posers... which aren't in short supply here.

Crysiss 02-26-2006 12:45 AM

I barely know of any posers that wear band t shirts. The only way i can lump you in with the posers is if you listen to "poser" music. I dont want to state any bands because i respect every band. Except Limp Bizkit.

Man, Ive heard so much about Demon Of The Fall, yet i haven't bothered listening to it.Finally did. I've been missing out.

Kaiwaz 02-26-2006 02:04 AM

I just got tickets to see Opeth on March 4th in Minneapolis at First Avenue. I can't wait.

Yes you had been missing out. It's an awsome song.

Although rather overrated.

Det_Nosnip 02-26-2006 11:41 AM

You learn to appreciate it when you see it live. :)
