Apocalyptic Raids 10-12-2006 12:40 AM
It's kind of hard to find new thrash for me lately. And it sucks, because that always causes me to lose interest in the genre, and then I finally go back and remember how good all the old stuff is.
There are many bands from back in the day that I haven't checked out yet. Problem is, that much of the old-school stuff I've got a hold of lately has sucked. I find with old-school Death Metal you can download something from a band who only had a couple of demos and an EP (not even that) and you can still get some really good quality stuff, on the other hand the Thrash scene was wayyy too over-crowded by '88-'89 or so.

But then I listen to Bonded By Blood and realise just why life is worth living.

Also, I have zero interest in these retro Thrash bands anymore.

Nepenthe 10-12-2006 12:42 AM

Yeah that's what I mean, most obscure thrash bands are obscure for a reason, and I don't think I've ever heard a good thrash band formed after the mid 90s.

Apocalyptic Raids 10-12-2006 12:44 AM

Yeah, that's true. It's almost the opposite with the Scandanavian DM scene. Obviously bands like Dismember, Demigod etc are well known for a reason too, but then you get Abhorrence for example, who only did a demo and an EP, and are absolutly fantastic.

Riva 10-12-2006 12:45 AM

At least we got some good thrash albums post '95.

Nepenthe 10-12-2006 12:46 AM

The Finnish scene ruled them all.

It sucks, but Shah is still the last good thrash band I've found, and that was two or so months ago.

True, Jason.
The Finnish scene ruled them all.
I think I prefer the Swedish scene, but not by much.

Bazarov 10-12-2006 01:13 AM
rawr

anyway, I haven't checked out much new Thrash lately.

Have been downloading unholy amounts of old-school Death Metal demos though.
Any recomendations? All I have are the Chris Barnes' demos and Necrovore.

Apocalyptic Raids 10-12-2006 01:18 AM

The Nihilist demos are awesome, as is Demigod's Unholy Domain. There's always the Death/Mantas demos too.

Um, Bonded By Blood for life.
Yeah, I got a truck, and somewhat of a life. Busy times these are.

I'm always sure to check in though :)

I haven't found any new thrash bands lately. I discovered DeathChain a month or so ago, but after a few listens the singer really started to piss me off. Cool riffs for the most part though.

Apocalyptic Raids 10-12-2006 01:26 AM

Deathchain are alright, pretty solid stuff.

FatalEnergy 10-12-2006 01:30 AM

Yeah, the riffs are pretty cool. I don't know about you, but I think the singer sounds too "-core" sometimes, and it annoys me.

Apocalyptic Raids 10-12-2006 02:26 AM

Typical vocals of a more extreme Modern Thrash band, really. I think Hardcore vocals tend to be hoarser and more 'throaty', for lack of a better word.

FatalEnergy 10-13-2006 02:08 AM

I found my Stepfather's band on M-A.

Really weird, but pretty cool.

I have that one demo listed on there. There's a lot more stuff not listed. They had a full length.

metal-militia 10-13-2006 06:03 AM

What are they like? Any good?

Mother 10-13-2006 06:51 AM

I have virgins ... Annihilators - in Comamnd costs AED 60 (16 US$) there .. but in some other small music shop it cost AED 44 ( 11 US$) . :(

The last decent Thrash I found was Abomination. Though I knew it was at least going to be somewhat good, since it is a Paul Speckmann project.

AA-12 10-13-2006 09:56 AM

What is the whole alternating of trash vs. thrash thing? I see it all over.

Apocalyptic Raids 10-13-2006 09:58 AM

I think it's a common mistake Europeans with dodgy English make, that's the reason I've heard anyway. Either that or it's a frighteningly common typo.

AA-12 10-13-2006 10:01 AM

Haha, yeah. I just hear it used all the time.

Apocalyptic Raids 10-13-2006 10:04 AM

Yeah, it's a rather unfortunate mistake.

np: Master - Latitudinarian

hail MASTER

pate 10-13-2006 11:22 AM

I've always heard that way back when, some European metal magazine made the translation error. Hence all the people now who think that is the name of the genre.

Bazarov 10-16-2006 12:18 AM

I haven't listened to DRI in a long while, till now. And man, this is kind of like getting a breath of fresh air.

NP: DRI - Beneath the Wheel.

AA-12 10-16-2006 12:19 AM

Hooooorayyyy thrash.

Bazarov 10-16-2006 12:56 AM

NP: Razor - Miami

This song makes me think of you Josh. <3

I'd love to see Razor live so bad.

AA-12 10-16-2006 01:09 AM

Haha, <3

Razor is great.

NP: Infernäl Majesty - Hysteron Proteron

Bazarov 10-16-2006 01:24 AM

I've been failing to check out Infernal Majesty's other material. I only have None Shall Defy which I think it pretty great. I've heard bad things about their material past that. And DC++ is broken, so I've been neglecting to get it and other things I want.

AA-12 10-16-2006 01:25 AM

One Who Points To Death is really good. Came out in '04 too.

Apocalyptic Raids 10-16-2006 02:23 AM

I've heard very bad things about newer Infernal Majesty, so I've stayed away.

AA-12 10-16-2006 08:29 AM

If old Infernäl Majesty is so much better than the new, i'm in for a massive suprise :D

Apocalyptic Raids 10-16-2006 08:56 AM

You haven't heard None Shall Defy?
