Your last name is Routh!! haha, I couldn't find you, though. :(
i got served? or did you?
i'm sorry but unless you have but a token knowledge about the hip hop and rap industry, you'd realize that almost everything is done for shock value, a manufactured image, and/or pure randomness
and i'm not white and i dance to plenty. i like lots of rap. i just think he's so awful.
well just say that

Illmatic 01-24-2006 09:24 PM

I had no idea people took him seriously.
/me likes Sage Francis
he is very boring, but he is at least a step above Aesop Rock.

Tyler 01-24-2006 09:26 PM

[gay]He needs to stop looking behind him, or one of these days I'll be there with my goot up his ***.[/gay]

PinkFreud 01-24-2006 09:27 PM

i have some knowledge of rap and hip hop. it's all i listened to for years. and i know that NOT everything is done for the reasons you listed. i realize it was hyperbole but my point still stands.

and i did say that i dislike his music and think he's awful.
and i also think he has terrible lyrics and gets way too much hype.
illmatic: you might want to re-read the last part of the post you quoted.

and your analogy might be appropriate if you said you hated tom cruise because of his stance on psychiatry and you hated collateral because it had weak dialogue and was way overhyped.

tard.

TheDMV 01-24-2006 09:30 PM

I like Kanye. I read today that he is addicted to porn.

Cain 01-24-2006 09:33 PM

Such animosity in this thread all of a sudden, over such a minor (in the scheme of things) rapper. Ay yi yi.
addicted to porn.
Don't laugh. It's the easiest thing to become addicted to ever. Easier than chocolate, sex, coffee, crack, morphine, whatever. Ever.

In a way I'm not kidding. Porn is dangerous. I look at it much less than I was for a while...it was affecting my ability to be sufficiently intimate with my gf.

Tyler 01-24-2006 09:34 PM
he is very boring, but he is at least a step above Aesop Rock.
Aesop Rock is lyrically flawless, but he is almost totally unlistenable. Immortal Technique ftw.

It's up to us laid-back and helpful users to instill in peace in our R&M society once again.

Please people. Calm yourselves.

Nostalgia 01-24-2006 09:35 PM
Oh wow I forgot, that's a great reason to hate someone.

I suddenly hate Collateral. Not because of anything to do with the movie, but because of Tom Cruise's stance on psychiatry.

Tard.

He is fine, he is not great but he is not "pure trash" either.

What rap do you listen to?
My main reason for disliking Kanye is that he just kinda sounds forced when he's rapping... like he's thinking for a split second before he says his lines... it sounds kinda sloppy... plus I hate his lyrics.

K-os, The Roots, Jurassic 5, Wu-Tang Clan, A Tribe Called Quest, MC Chris, Cannibal Ox, Optimus Rhyme, etc.

Tyler 01-24-2006 09:38 PM
Lyrically flawless? You're serious?
Well, I've only heard a few songs, but I thought the lyrics were really well done...I cant stand him musically. I'll go read more of his lyrics and probably regret saying that.

TheDMV 01-24-2006 09:39 PM

"lyrically flawless" is essentially non-existant. It honestly doesn't make sense. Perhaps a great lyricist would work better.

Nostalgia 01-24-2006 09:40 PM

I actually don't listen to much rap, I listen to a lot of old Tupac that maintains a poetic sence. I love Bone thugs 'n' Harmoney just because of how well they harmonize. But I can really respect any artist.

I like Wu Tang and ATCQ, The Roots have their moments, but other than that I can't say I like any of those guys...I kind of expected that kind of list.
I'll go read more of his lyrics and probably regret saying that.
You definitely will.

No one ever said he was a good MC, no one who knew what they were talking about at any rate.

Yeah, I respect your tastes though man, you listen to some good stuff... I mean, just your name alone is in good taste, Nas =
No one ever said he was a good MC, no one who knew what they were talking about at any rate.
Regardless, I was just stating my reasons for not liking him.

EDIT:

To Ray:
What did you mean when you said, "I kinda expected a list like that"?

Was it because I had mentioned those groups before or because it's just the generic types of rap groups a metalhead would listen to?

Nostalgia 01-24-2006 09:55 PM

I dunno, it just seems like a lot of white rap fans I know seem to like the "underground" stuff that I (and a lot of black people) don't like...it's a cultural thing.

I don't want to sound too harsh to any of you, I just got some really bad news today and maybe I had been taking it out on some of you.
Eggo - Where can I find you? (if you aren't annoyed yet)
What do you mean?

Dr. Jake Destructo 01-24-2006 09:57 PM

I don't know much about Kanye West, and I've only heard a bit of his music, but he sounds either a) racist or b) fueled by money.
