you can almost say that about any Tool song. Wasn't it Maynard's intention to let his songs have different meanings to different people? I almost leave it to that, but knowing what the song means to Maynard is neat none the less.
As true as this is and as much as the band stresses to find their own meanings through their songs, I think people enjoy finding the reason that Tool created the song in the first place, I'll admit it is fun and very interesting. It also reveals another side to the band to find these things out for me. |
Oh shiz, double post.
I agree with your analyzation of Eulogy more than anyone else's but you forgot one thing that I think may have been important.
Why then are you so surprised to hear your own eulogy I think he's telling the mentor right there that he wasn't as good as he thought he was and attacking the teachers ego.
You know, I never thought of it in that light, and it makes total sense with my original interpretation. A take a bow to you, sir. Much kudos. But that does add a bit of the anger to the song that I was talking about, as well as adding to Maynard pointing out the fact of the mentor limiting themselves by self-proclaiming themselves as a teacher. Interesting.. ~daniel |

Wow. Thats pretty harsh for the R&M mods. (seems more like a subtlefagger thing) |
Oh, sh*t..
I'm sorry then. I don't have a freaking clue how to merge the posts, though. I'll make sure to type extremely slow from now on lol No offense to any Mods. ~daniel |

(seems more like a subtlefagger thing)
They were just once day bans, but still pretty harsh. And Esoteric, just click edit in the lower right hand corner of your post, copy from the other post, paste into that one, then go back to the post you copied from, hit edit, click the delete this thread cirlce, then the delete this thread button. Don't worry about fixing it now, but just watch out in the future. |

I only post there when I see an interesting thread on the main page. |
There are some good posters in the Pit; Nacho, Hat, Strum(before he was a mod(hardly see him post anymore)), Eggo(especially), Ramsey ect ect, you just have to look out for them.

only time i go to the pit, is on my way to read some of the articles in politics, News, and world issues. Some interesting reading is in there.

Pu****
I have but another..
Pu**** Whenever I first heard this song a phrase came to my mind, "It's like stepping into an old comfortable pair of shoes." Right now that doesn't make much sense, but I'll try and explain. This is the one song on AEnima that really got me. Not only due to the fact in this track, musically, the band takes this song, dissects it, and brings it back together at the end (which fascinates me as a musician); and vocally, Maynard really shows his talent at the end of the song and lyrically (which fascinates me as a writer as well). But I see this song as the ultimate fight between man Vs. self. A battle against personal demons.. You ever hit a point in your life were depression is all that really comforted you? TooL touched on this before with the song Reflections off of their Lateralus album. This is what I get from Pu****: I will choke until I swallow... Choke this infant here before me. What is this but my reflection? Who am I to judge and strike you down? This is where I think we get Maynards' first view of his personal demon, and ultimately it's himself. And the funny part is that we see that he sees it as being a mere infant. Because in an infant a human can really find no wrong or evil in them, and we look upon them as a comfort while they are around us. In turn, this is how Maynard sees his shadow, or personal demon. But you're pushing and shoving me. You still love me and you pu**** on me. So in Maynards' comfort and blindness to his demon, it continues to push and shove his thoughts and emotions. And in a metaphoric sense the demon loves him by never leaving, and continues to push the depression on him. Rest your trigger on my finger, bang my head upon the fault line. Take care not to make me enter. 'cause if I do we both may disappear. But you're pushing me, shoving me. Pu**** on me. No longer having control over your thoughts and emotions. At times it even seems as though the actions you commit was forced upon you. So at some point you hit a point of no return in your head, which I think is what Maynard means by "Take care not to make me enter. 'cause if I do we both may disappear." If a person hits that spot in their heads, neither the person nor the demon will matter anymore. And in a more literal term, suicide. Maynard also refers to "the faultline", which is a presence in almost every one of his albums (even till now with his APC 13th Step cd in the song The Outsider). In the song AEnema he uses the faultline of California as a representation as the line between realization and close-minded idiocy of todays world. So in this songs i thin he's trying to say that in this state, he's stuck in something he doesn't want to be in the middle of. And again, Maynard is talking to the demon, "But you're pushing me, shoving me. Pu**** on me." Slipping back into the gap again. I'm alive when you're touching me, alive when you're shoving me down. But i'd trade it all for just a little bit of piece of mind. The bottom of bottoms. That last few moments when you feel you can't go any further. Your feelings are so distrought, that you become numb to any other pain, and again finding comfort in it. But he realizes, that he would trade it all just to have a peace of mind again. Put me somewhere I don't wanna be. Seeing someplace I don't wanna see. Never wanna see that place again. This part of the songs is perfect. The music tones down to a hypnotic rythme, and a slow electric guitar playing in the background. Maynards' voice goes into a slight moan. It's just set up perfectly for the lyrics. This is where a self-realization starts to peak over the horizon. You're looking up from the bottom of the pit, and you notice that your demon has brought you down here. There is no longer a comfort, but rather a waking up from a terrible/soothing dream. Saw that gap again today as you were begging me to stay. Managed to push myself away, and you, as well. Maynard has just climbed his way out of the pit tired and worn. He looks back and sees that the demon is begging him to stay. But he's already shoving himself away. If, when I say I may fade like a sigh if I stay, you minimize my movement anyway, I must persuade you another way. There's no love in fear. This is were Maynard realizes how much in love he was with that pitiful hole, and saddens him. Knowing that if he stayed he might have died, or just would have gone anywhere in life at all. So he has to persuade himself there is another way to live. And I love the scream he lets out on the phrase, "There's no love in fear" showing his anger towards his self-dellusion that he was happy in his hole. Staring down the hole again. Hands upon my back again. Survival is my only friend. Terrified of what may come. Just remember I will always love you, even as I tear your ****ing throat away. But it will end no other way. Best **** vocals here, and they mix perfectly with the lyrics. Once he is out of the hole prepared to look forward, you can't help but to feel fear of what's to come. "Will I find another hole? Will it catch up with me again?" So survival becomes a companion in a fight not to fall again. And just before he starts walking again, Maynard looks back to his old demon (i.e. self/shadow) and not being able to hate himself (because in doing so how can you have a future without learning from past) but symbolicly tearing it's throat away by leaving it behind him. And he knows that to enlighten himself and become an "awake" person, it can end no other way. Truly a beautiful song in my opinion. This song can also be taken as a break up song with someone who mentally or physically abuses you. They both have the same principle. Prying open my third eye, ~daniel |
Yeah he is sounding a bit behind in the mix.
Hey now.. Esoteric isn't a noob.. just a "new member" right? hehe
lol I agree (although I was barely introduced to these boards through the APC boards lol) Whenever I saw this thread I said, "F**king A! A thread I can really get into." And took it from there. And besides, I like the term new member rather than noob...sounds alot like boob lol Then again, new member as an odd ring to it too :p lol ~daniel |
I agree, but the mods latley have been really pushing the "no double-post" policy. Regs like Fast Fingers and Cain were banned for double posting just once.
Hmm, I didn't know those two were banned for that reason. I get annoyed by double posts if they're like this: Post One: 6:31 PM lol yeah they rule Post Two: 6:32 PM ne1 else like em Stupid stuff like that. If there's a point to the double post, it's okay. If the two could easily have been posted in one post, or if there's no reason to double post, then don't double post. :) I usually throw out a few warnings before I ban, though. Oh yeah.. Faith+1, I hate saying this, but your Lateralus drum track is off just a little bit around 5:40. It's extremely hard to record that part now. :( I feel bad for saying that because I know that playing Danny Carey isn't an easy task. I've tried to record to it, but I can't get it to sound right. :upset: |
