Yeah I was kinda disapointed, but the show was really great. I used to hit 3-4 concerts a year, and that was definitely the best concert I've ever been to. If everything goes according to plan, I'll be able to see them March 4th with that awesome setlist!

I've been on such an Orchid binge lately. :( In Mist she Was Standing is such a musical orgasm.

Hey Flynn, I know this is old as hell, but this post interested me:
I despise Metallica, In fact I LOATHE them. I should'nt capitalize the "m" in metallica anymore cause that would give that name respect...I would want that now...
Why the M(m?)etallica hate? |
The only Opeth album im missing now is Ghost Reveries. Thought id get the others before Ghost Reveries. Favorite album-Still Life, Song-Serenity Painted Death.

Why the M(m?)etallica hate?
I can't remember that post, It was probably when I first started posting here and just posted my thoughts to let people know how I felt about them, I don't know. What does it matter though? I hang around people that listen to Rap and say they can't stand Opeth, laugh at their music because it's not for them. I respect that because they're into their own mind-set. I have never tried to steer them off of what they like, never once tried to prove (elitism) Opeth's music is far better then anything in their CD collection or anything they've ever heard. I don't pry. But I do give examples. I don't expect them or anyone else to automattically get into my kind of music because I think it's better then what they listen to, even though our tastes are night and day. I don't care who hates what, who likes what, etc etc...Everyone has their own opinions on all kinds of different things...to each his own. I can't stand Metallica. < Period. I grew up with that music, and yes I definitely respect them a lot for what they've achieved in their life in the Metal scene, yet I still have my reasons why I despise that band. I have no idea what ignited the fire in my head to post that, but I have to stand by it. To be fair, I will say it was an inappropriate post. |

I have many friends who listen to rap or pop punk or any other genre besides metal. I dont really care. It would be great if we all listened to metal, but then we wouldnt be unique. I wish i could have went to that Opeth show that Cain went to. |

In my environment, metal is an extreme minority among the people who listen to music (which is virtually everyone). I'm the complete opposite of 99% of the people I deal with daily, but I don't like to be condescending or elitistic towards their taste. Opeth or any metal band is not factually better than any rap or pop, it all comes down to personal preference. I do try to expose people to metal when I can though, because I think the music is much better than what the mainstream gives it credit for. I'll give recommendations and CD's for people to listen to, but I don't criticize anyone who says metal isn't for them or doesn't like what I recommend. For some reason I always envisioned metalheads to be nicer guys. Sure, you can be a badass. Listen to the most extreme music ever written, walk around in black with bullet belts and long hair, flaunting some obscure band on your shirt. I love the metal image. But when people expect metal guys to be very cold, inconsiderate people I like to prove them wrong. No negative behavior should be permanently attached to a genre of music. It's always funny to surprise people by dressing like a stereotypical metalhead and then turning out to be a very polite person. We've all had those days though. You look back on old posts and wonder what the hell you were thinking. If I could cover up my past here I think I would get a lot more respect from other users, haha. |
I've found that alot of metalheads tend to be pretty cool and laid back, especially those who are also musicians. One theory is that the music serves as an effective outlet for alot of the kinds of thoughts and emotions that many people repress or express in destructive ways. I do know that nothing calms me down when I'm upset or cheers me up when I'm depressed like a good ole dose of heavy metal.

There are plenty that are laid back, but for every one of those there's an anal-retentive elitist :\ Although the elitists are probably disproportionately represented on MX. I just busted out Orchid again last night. Apostle is probably my favorite song on there, but for the most part when I listen to it all I can think about it how it makes me want to listen to Morningrise...the albums are so different it's like Morningrise is the album by a great band and Orchid is a bunch of amateurs trying to rip them off. I'm so glad BRI ended up on Morningrise instead of Orchid, the changes that took place between those albums were only good. (sorry Flynn :\ ) |
Opeth is probably my favorite band. There's music, and then there is art. Opeth is one of those few bands that tread across the line into art.

Omfg That's So Sentimental.
Opeth Is Freaking Lame You Queer, Omfg They Can Play Music From The Middle Ages As Well As Generic Melodic Death Metal Omfg! Definately Art. |

Haha grammer nazy.
Anyhow, on the metalhead department... I think I've turned into a nicer person since I got into the more... brutal shades of music, say metal, say Rock. Aside from a number of facts and situations I don't really think is necessary to expose at the moment, I had to change my mind on how I treat people and how I am portrayed. After all, all I have is the way others see me, and the way I treat others is the way I'll be treated. However, I don't try to be an elitist pig in music terms. Hell, I don't even bring up the music subject when I'm with my friends, because I know they aren't really into it, so I guess my "super wide taste in music" helps a lot, since I listen to dance, electronica, hip hop and several other genres I wouldn't consider to listen on my own, yet I listen to them to have fun. But yes, metalheads are definitely viewed as weirdos. Stereotypes, me supposes. eh... and yeah Opeth... eh... I still have a lot to DL... but I'd prefer stop downloading and buy more albums. Probably in the summer or something. |
Opeth = fun

Yeah I was told that the other day, hehe... :shiftey: Anyhow, I'll try and make it backward-chronological order, since I got Ghost Reveries first, then Lamentations, so D&D, BwP, SL, etc. etc. Or just the way I come across each album. |

Fortunately I don't go to metal gigs so I don't have to worry about those! Except for if I ever make it to an Opeth show :\ |

Goin on March 5th, first concert ever omg.

Holy Hell, that's a good first concert, I hope you enjoy. My first concert was Suicidal Tendencies (boo-yah!) and ICP (boo!). I hated ICP at the time too. |
lol yea, the only reason i havent gone to much concerts is that where i live, its kind of isolated. But Opeth is just comin just a few hours away. Cant believe how pysched i am.
Well, ive gone to other concerts but it was practically nobodies, Kyros, Deafening, The Outsiderz and a metallica cover band from toronto |

Minnesota? Nowhere near! I was a 3 hour drive from 2 Opeth gigs on this tour but I had no way to get there. It sucked. |
