The other amp beside him belongs to one of the other bands that played that night.

Damn my guitar looks sweet in that picture.
picks ftw

if people complain they can't get a good variety of sounds out of them, or can't play as fast with them or whatever, it's usually because they can't be bothered to learn how to use one properly and they suck with it, so they blame the pick.

wouldn't say they're always the way to go, but i use one 95% of the time now, and i used to be 100% fingers.

i actually suck with fingers now :(
I really only have one or two tones that I think suit a pick, but that can vary from bass to bass.

It's true, I can't be arsed to be as technically proficient with a pick as I am with my fingers, but then again, I don't think the songs I use a pick for require it at all. I'm probably a 75%/25% fingers/pick split.

Spiff, I thought your tele was white?

Spaceman Spiff 04-14-2010 12:24 PM

Nah, I wanted a white one. In fact, I would love a white guitar, but when I saw and played this one, I could not resist.

Actually, I was going to get white Jazzmaster, I was pretty set on this Tele from the moment I saw the color on the Fender website. I just happened to find the perfect one in a music store.

But I didn't get a white Jazzmaster either.

One day I'll have a super sexy white guitar.

BenJammin 04-14-2010 01:20 PM

Jesus Christ Spiff. That is a super sexy Tele.

FunkMetalBass 04-14-2010 01:28 PM

If possible, I want to sell my uncle's old Ibanez strat copy (with humbucker in bridge & coil tap switch) and buy a white HH tele with an ebony fretboard. Then throw some black hardware on it. Teles are the only style of Fender guitars that I would ever buy...and even then I wouldn't buy it because it says "Fender" on it.

burtonbassist_102 04-14-2010 02:00 PM

I've played some damn fine Tele's in my day.

Damn my guitar looks sweet in that picture.
you should know ... you seem to spend the entire time staring at it :)

fatbandit 04-14-2010 03:00 PM

idk, teles don't excite me at all.

burtonbassist_102 04-14-2010 03:04 PM

They're not my favorite either, but I don't understand the logic of "OH I PLAYED THIS ONE _____ GUITAR ONCE AND IT SUCKED SO I'LL NEVER PLAY ANY OF THEIR GUITARS OR BASSES AGAIN".

I've played a Fender Jazz that played like ****, then picked the next one up and it was orgasmic.

fatbandit 04-14-2010 03:06 PM

Fender is a brand that I haven't really had that much experience playing with actually. I don't really like them aesthetically for the most part, but now and then I'll see one that catches my eye. There's no rhyme or reason to it. But I've never seen a Tele that makes me reconsider and decide I like the look of them.

burtonbassist_102 04-14-2010 03:08 PM

I agree, Tele's are pretty boring looking. But my point is that they PLAY nicely and can actually sound pretty good too.

fatbandit 04-14-2010 03:19 PM

Meh. I would only want to play something that I like the look of and the feel/sound of as well. Doesn't mean other people don't like it - look at the "Teles are sexy" responses round these parts.

Our guitarist has one that he really likes, and we recorded about half our album with it. Still don't like how it looks, but it's okay, because I don't play it, he does :)

Convectuoso 04-14-2010 08:53 PM

What guitars do you like then?

Out of the teles, strats and jaguars (i know there are more Fender guitars but these are the most popular) I think the teles win aesthetically by a mile. Strats are ugly as poos unless they're worn in like a mother****er, which makes any instrument look cool lol.

whitesquares 04-14-2010 08:55 PM

Jaguars and Strats are quite sexy.

Teles aren't so bad either but I'm not totally into them.

whitesquares 04-14-2010 09:19 PM

Hahah, wow. Awesome.

Spaceman Spiff 04-14-2010 10:46 PM

Ben - I know. :D I love it so much.

As for the whole talk of brands and whatnot, I never liked any Fender instrument, really. I never liked their basses when I played them, don't care for Strats. Something about Teles, though, I love the look and sound.

Same thing for the Jazzmaster. I never knew I wanted one of these until I happened upon one at the music store. I picked it up and didn't put it down for a good 30-40 minutes without even realizing how much time had passed.

I've got two guitars that I pretty much can't top.

Convectuoso 04-15-2010 12:24 AM

Lmao the bass forum should just turn into a nudes spam forum, nobody will ever notice

whitesquares 04-15-2010 12:25 AM

As the mod posts directly above you. :p

Spaceman Spiff 04-15-2010 12:26 AM

What mod?

whitesquares 04-15-2010 12:27 AM

Oh, he left.

I thought he was standing right there.

My acid's kicking in, sorry.

Spaceman Spiff 04-15-2010 12:28 AM

It's easy to get lost in the trip.

Read his book "The Pleasure of Finding Things Out." ABSOLUTELY. FASCINATING. No joke. It's an easy read, too, with tons of hilarious anecdotes.

Convectuoso 04-15-2010 12:30 AM

Lol the bass forum, the only place you post a vagina and the mod give you +rep

Spaceman Spiff 04-15-2010 12:37 AM

Hey, Joel, would you have any idea what would cause an amp to buzz? I know you know audio stuff, but I don't know if you're a gear guy.

Basically, it only buzzes when notes are played. If notes aren't being played, it's silent. If some effect is used to create some noise, it doesn't buzz. But when notes are played is the only time this buzz sound comes.

Any ideas?

whitesquares 04-15-2010 12:40 AM

Stop playing bass with a bee as a pick.

/solved

the grille on my cab gets a little loose sometimes and when i play it buzzes against the screws. thats the only thing i can think of.

Convectuoso 04-15-2010 02:02 AM

Is it a tube amp?

Edit: and yes you're right I'm definitely an audio guy, not a gear guy as much, but if it's a tube am I may have an idea.

burtonbassist_102 04-15-2010 03:51 AM

To go back to guitars, I'd definitely take a Strat over a Tele any day of the week. A) They look better, and B) Their sound is infinitely better IMO. There's just some things you can only do on a Strat.

EDIT: Oh, and I wonder if that tattoo is proportional.

fatbandit 04-15-2010 04:03 AM

What guitars do I like? Les Paul doublecuts are awesome, but I don't like regular LPs.

Are you sure this buzz is coming from your amp, not your guitar?
