black metal ist krieg

Invicta_Veritas 10-15-2007 12:25 AM

That would be short, but I don't think anybody in my class would know what that means.

I might get docked for lack of effort too.

awesome

Invicta_Veritas 10-15-2007 12:28 AM

I've got like 10 pages of history, interviews, and my own thoughts and notes, in addition to Varg's letters and writings, and I have to squeeze it all into like 5 minutes, because the BM song I'm playing is about 5 and that times me out.

Nostalgia 10-15-2007 12:28 AM

Black metal ist schlect.

I'd lose Varg's letters considering Varg is a stupid idiot.

Nostalgia 10-15-2007 12:33 AM

Which writings of his are you reading? I wouldn't take any of his Norse Mytholgoy ones. The only writing of his that I did enjoy was the Burzum story and Progression.

Invicta_Veritas 10-15-2007 01:06 AM

Just his personal accounts and letters of the happenings with Euronymous, the trials, the arsons, and the Mayhem incidents, as well as his own music career.

I've steered away from his Odinist writings, since I'm trying to stick to factual history pertinent to BM.

Tyler 10-15-2007 01:06 AM

I'm almost done this essay! Just another body paragraph and a conclusion.

Kage 10-15-2007 01:07 AM

Me too, actually. I just need to find a way to expand the final point I'm making, add in a conclusion and I'll be done.

Except for the citation of sources, which is a pain.

Invicta_Veritas 10-15-2007 01:08 AM

Haha. I have a ton of paperwork, outlines, and an outline/diagram with various articles all pinned up on my walls around my computer, but nothing written yet.

I have a couple of weeks though.

Citations are lame, yeah. Luckily this is basically all personal analysis so I dont need any in-text citations.

Just have to link Arbus and Frank to modern commercial photography and tie it in with a really pretentious conclusion about social responsibility and societal guilt.

Nostalgia 10-15-2007 01:11 AM

I'm in high school, so I just bloat my paragraphs and my teacher carelessly scans my paper to see if I did the writing. If I did, I get an A, despite my writing.
I'm in high school, so I just bloat my paragraphs and my teacher carelessly scans my paper to see if I did the writing. If I did, I get an A, despite my writing.
I only did that with certain profs. I couldn't get away with it in my last high school but in my first one I could and it was hilarious.

I should be fine with this because yeah, professional photography =/= writer.

And wtf is with United Colours of Benetton ads...one of them is just a bunch of penises and vaginas and the other one is a starving african kid holding a doll.

Kage 10-15-2007 01:14 AM

I have no idea what kind of grade I'm going to get for this writing, but it'll be interesting to see.

I can't get away with that at all.

Same here.
I can't get away with that at all.
Yeah, but what you're studying is almost exclusively technical.

Nostalgia 10-15-2007 01:17 AM

Generally on really long essays my lit teacher will just check to see if we did them, but I've began bullshitting other essays for class and I'm getting a little ahead of myself. They really make it too easy though - at least they can check what the hell I'm writing about rather than dismissing it once they see a few constructed paragraphs.

Not necessarily. Sometimes they give us a lot of leeway to pick subjects that are completely subjective. We just have to somehow relate it to the actual technical subject at some point.

This one is actually for music business class, and I have to relate it to that at some point, but anything other than that is fair game. Theoretically, I could fill the essay with a bunch of bullshit, but it wouldn't fly with the instructor. That, and since it's something I'm actually interested in, I wouldn't want to bullshit anyway.

Tyler 10-15-2007 01:26 AM

I just want to do some photography that isn't "take a picture that uses shape and texture". I want to do actual photography, commercial or artistic, not this bullshit. I dont want to write a research paper on why Diane Arbus' voyeuristic photography was relative to her event-less childhood and I don't want to talk about dick-filled advertisements.

The best part is I've been so consumed by this essay that my contact sheet that's also due tomorrow won't be finished in time, unless of course I take the final shots on my way to school (which I might do).

Lunch 10-15-2007 01:27 AM

that's why I don't want to take any art classes

Tyler 10-15-2007 01:28 AM
that's why I don't want to take any art classes
It's not even an art class, it's supposed to be an intro to digital imaging for the journalism field. Why the **** we're doing this basic elementary bullshit for 7 weeks is beyond me.

Kage 10-15-2007 01:28 AM

Cocaine is a helluva photographer already. Have they taught you anything new/useful?

are you gonna cover modern black metal?

what is the paper about anyway? is it about the history of the music or the history of the industry related to the music?

pixiesfanyo 10-15-2007 01:32 AM

hey, trickled brown eyes
you've got blues in yr hair

Nostalgia 10-15-2007 01:32 AM

You're going to school for journalism? I've always been intereted in journalism, but it'd be a fallback in case my culinary scholarship doesn't come through. Is this photography course maniditory for journalism?

For me it's mandatory, yeah. It's a media studies program, and journalism is my major. This is sort of an introductory course; those in the Image Arts major continue on this path while it's optional from this point on for me.
are you gonna cover modern black metal?

The music and it's history. I simply have to relate it to music business or the industry in one form or another at some point.

Yes, I am going to touch on modern BM (the ill-defined 3rd Wave of BM). The major problem for me is the amount of material from the second wave I have to/want to cover.

Lunch 10-15-2007 01:36 AM

I would've loved to major in something like visual arts but the college idea of art school is ridiculous bullshit and I would never take those classes
