I am currently in love with Serena Maneesh's self-titled album. Anyone listen to them?
And I've also been addicted to Metric's Old World Underground... I have their other cd, Live It Out, but it sucks hardcore.

BillCosby 01-04-2006 05:05 PM

M.I.A.
Stylex
Enon

I just got it the other day though I haven't listened to it yet. Read some good things about it.

The Make Up - In Mass Mind
Decemberists - The Tain

mentalstephanie 01-04-2006 05:23 PM
Serena Maneesh rules a lot. Check out My Bloody Valentine if you like them.
I love My Bloody Valentine.
Happymeal, you should definitely listen to it; it's worth it.

MerDeNoms 01-04-2006 05:49 PM

I've been listening to The Fall of Troy a lot recently.. they are I guess a progressive type band? Imagine The Mars Volta, but more intense, and less random noise.

The Postal Service has really been on my playlist a lot too.. Ben Gibbard is just an awesome songwritter/vocalist.

OrbDragon 01-04-2006 06:26 PM

I'm digging bit of 69 Love Songs by The Magnetic Fields, although I somehow never seem to dig it as a whole.

I'm currently listening to Björk - Debut.

Yes, The Fall of Troy is a cool band.

BillCosby 01-04-2006 06:36 PM

Seeing them in 17 days. :)

Tangy zizzle 01-04-2006 06:37 PM

This needs to be closed once 12,500 posts has been hit.

BillCosby 01-04-2006 06:47 PM

Why 12,500?

Tangy zizzle 01-04-2006 06:58 PM

I wanted it dead at 10,000 but namedroppers wanted to continue, so 12,500 seems like the next logical plateau.

dontchathink?

YDload 01-04-2006 07:03 PM

yeah i sure hate it when people post in this thread just so everyone can tell what bands they're listening to. where do they get off?!

Tangy zizzle 01-04-2006 07:14 PM

Started off with a decent principle (well if I remember correctly) but now people post like 20 different bands in a day of random clique-forced bands. I don't want my (user) name to be advertising this level of pretentiousness anymore.

guitarded_chuck 01-04-2006 07:41 PM

Pelican - The Fire In Our Throats Will Beckon The Thaw

You've all heard of them by now. Awesome stuff.

MerDeNoms 01-04-2006 07:48 PM

^ Circa Survice = sex

el doctor 01-04-2006 07:57 PM

Good call on the Serena Maneesh album. "Drain Cosmetics" and "Un-Deux" happen to be my two favorite songs off the album and I think they're both fantastic. They're one of those bands though that don't really exist outside of the internet/music nerd community. :o

The Fiery Furnaces - Gallowsbird's Bark

Something compelled me to listen to this today. Unlike Blueberry Boat, I can actually stomach it all in one sitting.

el doctor 01-04-2006 08:01 PM
same.

as well as Circa Survive and Cat Power.

Tangy, I don't see what you're getting riled up about. What other purpose could this thread serve?
I can see why he's annoyed. I remember someone posted a few months ago to try and get people to put more effort into their posts, meaning, actually discuss what you're digging rather than just name dropping. It's just annoying when people constantly come in here and have a new album every day that's "omg the best album ever, seriously" without giving any explanation.

Tangy zizzle 01-04-2006 08:20 PM

Thankyou el-doctor.

If people were actually explaining why they dig, what kinda of band/artist it is, how to hear them etc... it would be all gravy. But instead it's just lines and lines of obscure bands that people have probably just d/led and thought "ooh, unknown math-rock/art-pop band, I'll go impress the boys".

I still think it should be closed. I'd start a v2.0 and lay out some guidelines if people were willing to abide.

Tangy zizzle 01-04-2006 08:22 PM

Check out the first page for examples of how I'd like to see it done again.

BillCosby 01-04-2006 08:27 PM

I've been diggin Stylex, They're a small band from Ohio who I found out about through myspace a year or so ago. They really aren't anything special, but they're fun to listen to and have occasional little spouts of brilliance. They remind of Brainiac at times, but dancier, but not quite as electro as Enon. They still can get down and dirty at times.

Thurr you go, homie.

That's the only album I have heard and I love it.

OrbDragon is really good at this. I always feel like I'm missing out on something because I haven't heard what he has :(
