The finals BORED me this year, man.
During the semifinals all I was saying is that I hope its not SA against DET cause that will be the most boring finals of all time. Theres no exciting players on either team. The closest to exciting is Manu and hes still pretty lame.

superpeer 06-23-2005 09:37 AM

Meh, the Kaiser Chiefs, the Mars Volta and Sum 41 cancelled for Werchter. :(

You're not missing much missing the Mars Volta.
Kaiser Chiefs I have never seen.
Sum 41, however, put on a pretty decent show.

That's why I miss the NHL. I usually only watched hockey games during the playoffs, because there tended to be more interesting action due to the tension among the teams. Nothing beats all the fights that broke out a few years back between Detroit and Colorado.

Yeah, Sum 41 would be the only one I'd be bothered by, too. Though I suppose The Mars Volta would be good to see if you like them.

Yeah I miss the NHL. Seriously, even the bars here in Canada are losing money becuase of the lockout. People used to go to watch hockey, but since there's no NHL here... Also, I'm a leaf fan and I saw a shirt I needed, but had no money with me. It said "Toronto Maple Leafs. Underfeated season 2004/2005." :p

Hey, do we have a Post Your Mug thread on here? In the Pit or something? Or is this board not allowed?

halfdeadhippo 06-23-2005 09:56 AM

Though I preferred the "Everything You Never Knew..." name from Hitchhiker's Guide, this name is ultimately more accurate.

superpeer 06-23-2005 09:57 AM

Tender/Al : Yeah, I don't care much about those two bands, I just would have gone to see them just to see what it's like and then leave after a while. I'm upset about Sum 41 though. :(

Im a die-hard Sabres fan. We must battle to the death!

Lol, i remember the good old days, the fights between Rob Ray and Tie Domi, and just the pure hatred on the ice between the two teams. One of my favorite rivalries in all of sports. Hockey rivalries always seem to intrigue me though, because you are ALLOWED to fight.

halfdeadhippo 06-23-2005 09:59 AM

The games back in the late nineties between the Avalanche and the Wings owned everything. They had the fights where even the goalies skated over and got involved. Those fights were bloody.

Haha yeah. Tie Domi was the man. He hasn't been getting into fights as much lately ,which is all he's good for. There was one season he said he'd prove he could play hockey too; he failed.

Heh, Domi is one of the biggest bad asses in all of sports. That guy suits up every game just to kill someone.

Yeah, but all hockey teams have a guy like that, most of them just arent as well known as Domi. Its called "the enforcer".

Also, wow, I can really tell the difference with this server. Before about 3 or 4 times a day it wouldnt be able to connect to the site. It hasnt happened once since the change.

Paranoidd 06-23-2005 10:16 AM

I personally don't like Domi though. He's an ugly arrogant punk, but I can't deny that he was awsome in the last playoffs.

I'd rather have Brashear.

Brewer14 06-23-2005 10:18 AM

I never though Id miss hockey, I didnt even have a team that I followed. But I miss just watching random games on ESPN. Lets hope they follow the NBA and come to an agreement before this season.

Paranoidd 06-23-2005 10:18 AM

They will.

You call Domi an ugly arrogant punk, which he is, as obvious throughout his career, but look at Brashear. Didn't he hit someone in the face with a stick? Hes also not that good. If I had my choice of enforcers I would take Todd Bertuzzi.

Jom 06-23-2005 10:23 AM

The NHL will start on time next season. I have confidence it'll work out.

///

For those of you who are ranting about the NBA Finals: shut up and don't watch, then.

Not everything has to be run-and-gun. I'd rather see a final score totalling in the 170's than a final score in the 230's. I like defense, but that's just because every position I've played in my years of sports has held a defensive mindset. Two points for a takedown. One point for a reversal. Keep a low base. Protect the quarterback. Rush the passer. Drill whoever has the ball. Gun down the base stealer. Front up the post player. Take charges. And so on and so forth.

I'm not entertained by a basketball final score of 122-108. All you have are teams running down the court on the fast break for 48 minutes. Yeah, alley-oops and slam dunks are great because fans love it. But you can get that running a normal defensive set.

I just don't see the point of watching only 3-on-2s for 48 minutes. Even the plays with flair get boring as hell. But again, that's just because I've always prided myself on my defensive capabilities, rather than my offense.

Yeah, the first four games were blowouts. The first two games in San Antonio, and the Spurs obliterate the Pistons. Next two games at the Palace, and the Pistons dominate the Spurs.

Sportswriters everywhere go  because the games have been unpredictable.

But if you mean to tell me that Games 5 and 6 weren't any good, especially the former, then I really don't have much to say to you other than... well, never mind.

And then there were people earlier in the Sports forum who say, "It doesn't matter who wins the Eastern Conference [Pistons/Heat], because they'll get crushed by the Spurs." And then when the Pistons advance, they say, "Here comes a sweep" or "The Pistons are ready to get blown out."

And then we're at a Game 7. Game 7s in any sport are always great. If you don't like Game 7s, you're not a fan of playoff sports and should stick to home interior design or the culinary arts.

If you're not excited for the NBA game tonight and you call yourself a basketball fan, that's just too bad, really.

I personally don't like the 2-3-2 format of the Finals, but whatever.

///

EDIT:
If I had my choice of enforcers I would take Todd Bertuzzi
Oh, you mean the cheap-shot artist who punched someone from behind, and continued to pummel him into the ice without warning?

Oh, yeah, a great example of hockey, being faced with criminal charges for breaking the guy's neck and injuring his vertebrae.

Hello to all by the way.
Well first off, I agree. The 2-3-2 format gives way too much of an advantage to the home team. But, it eliminates a lot of the traveling. Also, my dad told me back in the day it was 1-1-1-1-1-1-1 thats how it should be, but, wayy too much traveling, the playoffs are long enough as it is.

As far as Tod Bertuzzi, I know that was a horrible thing to do, but I belive he was in the top 5 in points two seasons ago, and hes just a really good player.
No it was him who got hit in the face. I forgett the guys name who did it.
Oh yeah your right. Marty McSorley is the guy who hit him.
