That album is pretty awesome.
Modern Life is War, that is, though Girl Talk probably is too. |
Pulp - Different Class
Just reminds me I still need to check out This Is Hardcore. |
Just reminds me I still need to check out This Is Hardcore.
Yeah me too. I should have a nice new copy of His 'n' Hers waiting for me when I get home tomorrow. :) |
Chico Buarque - Construção
Very cool album so far, my first listen. Appropriately relaxed and bouncy. Also, I meant to give that Girl Talk thing a listen today while I was at school, but I forgot. Tomorrow then. Edit: Not really bouncy. I'm not sure what the adjective I'm looking for is. |
The Von Bondies - Pawn Shoppe Heart
The Cure - Disintegration |
Elliott Smith
Nick Drake Jeff Buckley Radiohead Neutral Milk Hotel |
Modern Life is War - Witness
Probably one of the most emotional albums I've ever listened too.
Witness is better than My Love, My Way.. but the first 7" owns them both. |
The Phantom Surfers - 18 Deadly Ones
Various Artists - Toes On the Nose And I'm downloading a Ventures album right now that I shall hopefully be digging soon. |
Is Unknown Pleasures better?
Oh my God yes. |
Well I might give either that or Substance a go, before I completely dismiss Joy Division.
|
Go with Unknown Pleasures
|
New Order are just way better. But Substance owns Closer.
My friend got me into Frodus, who play "pseudo-emo post-hardcore punk". They're not at all mindblowing but I hear some NoU influences here and there, which is good enough for me.
Frodus are a cool band.
disgustingly underrated. why doesn't anybody ever talk about this?
I do. |
Cut Chemist - Rare Equations
Manic Street Preachers - Forever Delayed |
After about two and a half years, I'm finally starting to dig Surfer Rosa. Everything up to "Where Is My Mind??" is gold so far. I guess some records just eventually click. I think my favourite songs are the shorter ones, like "Broken Face" and "Something Against You".
|
Oingo Boingo - Only a Lad
My favorite new-wave/post-punk album of the 80's. Elfman is a genius. |
My Bloody Valentine - Glider EP
Yo La Tengo - Summer Sun |
Chico Buarque - Construção still. This album is fucking awesome. Creepier sounding than you'd expect. Especially the title track. The one thing I always wonder as I listen to male Brazilian singers, though, is why do they all sing through their nose? It doesn't bother me, but I mean, almost every one of 'em.
|
Sonic Youth - Bad Moon Rising
I'm loving these dark, broken '80s Sonic Youth sounds. It's quite brooding and strong. Excellent record. |
NoMeansNo - Wrong
|
Brian Eno - Ambient 1: Music For Airports
|
Pram - Dark Island
Post-Rock that is kind of like the music you'd expect to happen during the stuff you'd see in a Lynch movie. Really good stuff. |

Yes exactly. "Broken Face" and "Something Against You" are among my favorites as well, same with "Oh My Golly!" for similar reasons. I love to play "Broken Face" on bass because it's just a simple, fun bassline. Like most of them. |
I've heard people say that they don't like the song 'Red Brick' of Surfer Rosa, I find that amazing. I really should listen to The Pixies again soon, it's been ages.
|
The Brian Jonestown Massacre - Bravery Repetition And Noise
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Howl |

I used to think that a lot of the short tracks were really annoying, but I'm starting to see how they're great. |

I even like Tony's Theme, although the vocal melody is pretty much identical to "Cactus" :):( |
I have a soft spot for Tony's Theme.
|
Hell yes, I finally have neighbors on last.fm. One of them is a guy who listens to "Pearl Bomb" by Melvins nonstop, and another is some guy who apparently listened to the new RHCP and Tool albums all week (number of listens for each artist is identical to the number of tracks on the new albums!).
Also I got a top songs list as well: 1 Drive Like Jehu - Golden Brown 7 2 Minus the Bear - Thanks for the Killer Game of Crisco Twister 6 2 NoMeansNo - Rags And Bones 6 2 Mastodon - Megalodon 6 5 Sublime - Same in the End 5 5 Minus the Bear - Spritz!! Spritz!!! 5 5 The Dillinger Escape Plan - Panasonic Youth 5 8 Dead Kennedys - Police Truck 4 8 Pixies - Broken Face 4 8 Queens of the Stone Age - Go With the Flow 4 8 Yes - Heart of the Sunrise 4 8 Melvins - Honey Bucket 4 8 At the Drive-In - Ticklish 4 8 Minus the Bear - We Are Not a Football Team 4 8 Iron Maiden - Killers 4 8 NoMeansNo - Big Dick 4 8 The Replacements - Bastards of Young 4 8 Bear vs. Shark - Buses/No Buses 4 8 Hüsker Dü - The Biggest Lie 4 8 Mastodon - Ísland 4 8 Minus the Bear - The Game Needed Me 4 :) |
I've been seriously digging bootlegs of Daft Punks Coachella performance on YouTube. Anyone who can make twiddling freaking knobs on a board look like the single greatest and exciting thing ever deserves my time. Not to mention that the robot masks are just awesome.
|
"Rags and Bones" is my favourite NoMeansNo song.
Ben Folds Five - Ben Folds Five Queens of the Stone Age - Lullabies to Paralyze |
K-os - Exit
Man, I really dig this. |
Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
|
NOFX - The Decline
Yay. |
Nay.
|
Nay.
How can you not like the Decline? |
Gay.
Dang. |
Yay
|
I used to really like NOFX, Rancid, Guttermouth, etc when I was a freshman.
|
The Jesus And Mary Chain - Psychocandy
Another amazing band I discovered thanks to MX. Possibly my favorite noise rock/shoegaze album ever, it's like Brian Wilson and Phil Spector meet Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine. |
Pere Ubu - Dub Housing
