MAN I cannot wait to pickup my GT10B. Amp arrived today as well so it was fun times, sounds very good so far and the DI out on it sounds much better than going straight into the Firepod. No overdrive though which was sad.

Who wants to buy a Brice 6 string? lol.

If shipping weren't so expensive, I would buy it from you.

I'll post clips in a little bit. I need to find a quick drum track to play too.

Both of these were improvised, but it should give you an idea of a couple different sweet tones.

Yo Ben, what effects you use? I'm going through an effects stage.

BenJammin 04-09-2010 11:43 AM

I've just got a distortion/overdrive pedal right now, but I'm looking at getting a reverb as well. I really want an Eventide Pitchfactor, but you know... $$$.

FunkMetalBass 04-09-2010 03:20 PM

I need to get better at improvising with 19mm string spacing.

Either that, or I need to replace my hipshot bridge with another that only has 16.5mm spacing.

fatbandit 04-09-2010 03:42 PM

wow. if you order a pizza from dominos, you can check the progress of your order online. that's neat.

yeah, it's pretty much the only semblance of culture and civilisation out here in the styx

I heard you guys don't have air conditioning or running water. I'm surprised Dominoes and wireless internet (to track your pizza order) took priority.

Convectuoso 04-09-2010 05:09 PM

They even have Dominoes down here in no-mans land!

@FMB Re: Brice...If I come to America anytime soon I'll let you know.

fatbandit 04-09-2010 06:37 PM

That was good nomnoms.

Our TV broke today. We turned it on, and 3/4 of the screen has a weird purple/blue/green hue to it. Pretty weird. Going shopping for a new one tomorrow I think. Awesome.

Did you check out the link I posted above? I know it was crude and poorly mixed, but it should give you an idea.

What model is it?

fatbandit 04-09-2010 06:53 PM

I got my 57 yesterday, so I kinda want to go and record glassjaw tonez now just to see how it all sounds recorded. Don't have a portable recording setup though, and I think there'll be too much sympathetic vibration in our practice room if I take a laptop down :(

Convectuoso 04-09-2010 07:30 PM

Lol Sorry man missed that post. Just listened now, the tapping sounded really cool. With some 'verb, tiny bit of compression and maybe some delay that would sound awesome.

Finger tone was pretty cool too, but I liked the tapping better. Probably because I can listen to tapping by itself. Listening to fingered bass by itself is quite unnatural, its all about how the tone fits into the rest of the song. But I think it it was definitely a good DI'd bass sound.

Convectuoso 04-09-2010 07:33 PM

Fatbandit: Try a blanket or three over the mic. Or set up some baffles if you can, get in the middle of the room, as far away from any surfaces as possible. Take out any drums or metallic items in the room.

That's the best advice I can offer.

Man my GT10B is fun to set up. I've never really had any decent effects so this is boss. No pun intended.

fatbandit 04-09-2010 07:57 PM

Our room can't really accommodate that really :( I'll try and upload a photo of it sometime :p

Neat. How good are the sounds? I've got the ME-50B, which I'm going to sell, that I really wasn't keen on for much of anything.

fatbandit 04-09-2010 08:01 PM

Infact, there you go, from a drummer's eye perspective. The room is about as wide as the photo, the drummer is up against the back wall, and that photo gives the illusion of the room being longer than it is o_O

BenJammin 04-09-2010 08:02 PM

Dude, your head is almost bigger than your cab. O_o

fatbandit 04-09-2010 08:03 PM

The baffles is potentially a good plan though. Just need to think of a way to get something suitable. Something like those dividers you get in offices would be great. But way too big.

fatbandit 04-09-2010 08:04 PM
Dude, your head is almost bigger than your cab. O_o
Still hella loud though. I'm rocking a way bigger cab at the moment anyway. Just not for gigs.

It's pretty intense, regardless.

I have one cab, so it's what I use regardless (Epifani 310). Wouldn't trade it for the world.

fatbandit 04-09-2010 08:12 PM

And I only just realised our mannequin is in that photo, haha. I find him kinda creepy

Pretty much. That 212 holds its own against that guitar amp and a drumkit. Played venues with no PA support with it before. It's just a bit flimsy in the lows, and that Matamp has a lot of tube 'flab', so it rips the 212 apart a little bit if you push it too loud.

But well designed, small lightweight cabs are the way forward until we all have roadies and vans :)

 I thought that was a real person!

Ahh I see, very small room. But usable if you take the drums out and maybe a blanket might do it.

Ben: So far the delays/verbs/choruses are pretty freakin' sweet. And they're the main effects I'll be using. Synths are bleh, but A) They always are with Multifx and B) I'm 99.9% sure I'd never use a synth effect on bass ever.

Right now I've got it set up so

Pedal1 = Clean channel with pretty heavy compression and some EQ.

Pedal2 = Reverb with the same compressor and maybe eq once I get around to it.

Pedal3 = Chorus.

Pedal4 = ????. Maybe a slap tone. Or maybe a weird *** ring modulator or feedback loop delay patch.

CTL1 = my global delay.

CTL2 = Tap tempo for the delay.

Lol and that's a days work of ****ing around and deciding on the set up.

But it's cool cause once I have the first 4 set up how I like, I can just change to new bank of 4 if you get what I mean.

Distortions are meh, but that's what my Jackhammer is for.

Any suggestions for the 4th pedal?
