what is this "post punk" peeps been talkin bout lately

i haven't explored the genre but i think these count

Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds - Let Love In
Interpol - Turn On The Bright Lights

a big name in post punk is Joy Division but i haven't listened to them yet

illmitch 01-07-2010 02:18 PM

in terms of specific albums:

gang of four - entertainment
joy division - unknown pleasures
the fall - hex enduction hour
bauhaus - mask
the cure - pornography

Moon Flavor 01-07-2010 02:18 PM
joy divison

aw seriously? well i'm quite not a fan of joy division and the smiths haven't heard the rest

hey txus there was an album i remember you posting ages ago that you said was the most unlistenable thing ever or something to that effect? i think it had the word "magnum" or "mag" something or the other? do i maek sense?

edit: ugh i hate bauhaus too i think i'ma skip this post-punk thing

Txus 01-07-2010 02:19 PM

pageturn

and yeah, the cure too!

DBlitz 01-07-2010 02:20 PM

wait what

the smiths aren't post punk

illmitch 01-07-2010 02:22 PM

i wouldnt consider them straight post-punk, but id say they have considerable post-punk influence

Txus 01-07-2010 02:23 PM

oh yeah? then what are they?

And I think the album you're saying Moon dude is Cromagnon - Orgasm, probably the only album I haven't been able to finish.

Moon Flavor 01-07-2010 02:32 PM

yes! just looked up the cover and it is what i remember

i must hear it to believe

Txus 01-07-2010 02:34 PM

Tell me what you think about it.

Jaundice 01-07-2010 02:44 PM

The Smiths are like, a middle-ground between 80's post punk and 90's indie.

Most people seem to consider them alternative and that really seems a lot more accurate than calling them post punk.

Txus 01-07-2010 02:45 PM

**** you

Jaundice 01-07-2010 02:46 PM

And Jcs, definitely get The Raincoats' self-titled debut and Bauhaus' In The Flat Field. Essential post-punk.

Meatplow 01-07-2010 02:46 PM

Orgasm rules.

also get Public Image Ltd - Metal Box if we are talking post punk.

Jaundice 01-07-2010 02:49 PM

wait no love for joy division and bauhaus?

you're a faggot bro

and Interpol isn't post-punk, they really like it tho

Meatplow 01-07-2010 02:51 PM

a tonne of stuff has already been mentioned and whenever somebody mentions post punk I usually type out a massive list of 20 bands and give a detailed analysis, not tonight guys i'm tired from work

http://www.sputnikmusic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=580727

EMH's list here in this recent thread was surprisingly decent, and I made said post below. Research these bands and you should be well grounded in the genre.

Txus 01-07-2010 02:53 PM

i love how we are giving recommendations to jcs and he will probably nevrer listen to them since he doesnt like joy division

Jaundice 01-07-2010 02:54 PM
