Metridium Fields. Same riff for 18 minutes.
|
wins.
same label as Jaga Jazzist, and moderately similar to pre- What We Must Jaga Jazzist Basically, totally awesome. /doesn't consider them post-rock though
Yeah they're a great, great band. You can kinda disappear into their albums. |
Man, I Rosetta's guitarist is so amazing. I have never really listened closely to him due to the layers and typical noisy film covering the sound, but damn he does same amazing stuff.
|
I agree. I love his playing so much.
|
I was checking out their Myspace and apparently the guitarist and one of the members are doing shows in the Philly area with just guitar and a sampler.
That would be absolutely epic. |
That's awesome, dude. He's a creative guy and a solid player. I love when he busts into a really groove-heavy riff.
I'd like to hear some bootlegs of those shows. Wonder if they'll show up or not. |
I doubt it, they're basically unheard of.
Actually, I bet the members have some live recordings, so maybe I should hit them up on Myspace. That would be a nice find. |
So apparently Rosetta already have a split out...Some hardcore band by the name of Balboa. They're on the same label, so that's the connection.
Anyway, someone should look into stealing that. http://www.indieworkshop.com/interviews.php?id=101 There's also a neat interview with all the members of Rosetta. Pretty funny stuff. |
I'll take care of it.
|
I love Rosetta, but I have to be the lone one to disagree about them being better than Isis. I think Isis have a better track record of making amazing albums (Rosetta only has one...), better and more intelligible vocals (and easier to find lyrics) and because of that better conceptual centers, and better and more melodic layering. Everything else is more or less easily comparable.
But hey, I love them both and it's all subjective anyways. |

After reading a little bit about the concept for The Galillean Sattelites, I'm really interested in their lyrics. Sounds like one of those super-stoned daydreams tbh. :p
Laura, Te, Pirate Ship Quintet, Gifts From Enola, If These Trees Could Talk, Blueneck, The Ascent Of Everest, Site Of Future Rome, and These Monsters are all excellent, relatively unknown bands everyone needs to hear. (Large namedrop to hopefully start some discussion)
And Del Rey, Windmills By The Ocean, Giant Squid, and Year Of No Light for the metal side of the spectrum.
All of this are excellent bands. You guys should REALLY check out Tristeza, very good stuff. |
Red Sparowes just seem like the kind of band that would be really really good live. Has anyone listened to any of their splits?
I have Triad. It also has Battle of Mice and Made Out Of Babies. I was a little disappointed with the RS stuff as I was expecting new material not just live stuff |
What is the best Rosetta album?
|
There's only one. The Galilean Satellites. Might wanna check my spelling though.
|
Well they only have one full length, the Galilean Satellites. I haven't heard this split yet, but that's an amazing piece of work.
|
I'm on it, I'll post my thoughts later.
|
Jake I got the Rosetta/Balboa split, I'll e-mail or AIM it to you a little later. Anyone else who wants it, drop your e-mail here.
|
The split isn't as good as their work on Satellites, but it's really good nonetheless. Balboa is good, but nothing extraordinary.
I'm really liking the Mouth Of The Architect and Kenoma split right now. |
Great split, that MotA one.
|
You ever heard Year Of No Light? They remind me of Mouth Of The Architect in so many ways.
Rosolina Mar is quite possibly the happiest music in the world. (different subject) |
Kage: I'd like that please. bjwumr AT gmail DOT com

Any suggestions for more uplifting all-time classic post-rock tracks?
It would be helpful if post-rock had a sub-classification, because I'm always looking for more great tracks but it's difficult to quantify exactly what I like. My favourites are: Olsen Olsen, Samskeyti, Hoppipolla ,Lift your skinny fists, Tracy, Friend of the Night so I guess I'd say my tastes are Post-Rock melodic/orchestral. My favourites tend to be instrumental but I also love Do you Realise (The Flaming Lips) and Two-step (Low). On the other hand, 65days of static could be post-rock/rock? Yndi Halda & A Silver Mt. Zion = post-rock/drone (repetitious, downbeat?) Aphex Twin & Amon Tobin = post-rock/cold (can't think of a better word. Their songs are just emotionally isolating) Dead can Dance = post-rock/medieval I'm new to post-rock, so I'm basically just thinking aloud. |
Aphex Twin are electronic music not post-rock
I just ordered that Rosetta split |

Magyar Posse, Rosolina Mar, The Ascent Of Everest, and Clogs. |
Dude, Yndi Halda is about as uplifting as it gets.
|
He's already heard them though. But yeah, they are.
|
He's already heard them though. But yeah, they are.
Oh yeah, I was just saying that he labelled them as "drone" and not "uplifting". It irk't me. In that case, I'd say give Cats and Cats and Cats a listen. They're REALLY different from average post-rock, they have singing a good amount of the time, and they have a really nice kind of "sad happiness" to them. |
Cats and Cats and Cats are outstanding.
|
Yeah I like them a lot too. All I have is Sweet Drunk Everyone though, do they have any more material available.
|
Dead Can Dance is a gothic band, with a lot of ethnic beats to them. Good stuff, but not post-rock.
|

They have another EP that, for some reason, I have not picked up yet. I think I'm gonna get it now and then up them both for the Daily Upload eventually. |
Sweet, I want that EP.
|
Sweet, I want that EP.
Damn, it's proving hard to find. It was actually up on another forum I go to not long ago, but I passed it up at the time, and now that forum is down... :upset: |
:( I was looking for the EP over blogspot search but I had no luck.
|
That Rosetta/Balboa split needs to be in my possession Kage.
|
I agree.
|
I just emailed you a link Jake. What's your email bwnstl?
