your out of your element.

does anyone have any Kilmore tracks? like does he have solo anything? i'd like to see that. or DJ Lyfe vs. Kilmore...thatd blow my mind:confused:

mutant! 11-12-2005 10:14 AM

Haha, Lyfe vs Kilmore would kick some major booty.

I just bought and listened to Enjoy Incubus for the first time. HOOOOOOLY COOOW I've forgotten how cool Incubus were. That early material really showcases their progressive rock side. It's the closest I've heard to progressive funk. I'm digging it, of course. :thumb: It has reinspired me to blend classical music, funk, progressive and rock in one big melting pot.

Sound Boy 11-12-2005 02:18 PM

sounds good...but your a lil late on the melting...

other than that if Enjoy was a full album it'd be my favorite album. i think Enjoy incubus is why i dont listen to FA alot. i think the DJ completes incubus as a whole. "hilikus" has to be one of the dopest tracks incubus has. and i love how Brandon does the lil "mert" after the first chorus.. but yeah its a great 6 track*plus secret song* ep.

enjoimx 11-12-2005 03:07 PM

same here, enjoy incubus was a great album, if it was full it would be amazing, even more amazing than it already is. it a real peek into their creativeness.

enjoimx 11-15-2005 05:55 PM

err, BUMP

Sound Boy 11-15-2005 11:05 PM

im gonna make my kids listen to incubus.

Half Life 11-16-2005 01:23 AM

Incubus owns hands down(check avatar).

Jose is my bitch...and I have a secret plot to steal Brandons vocal chords...

Son of Northern Darkness 11-16-2005 04:10 AM

I like incubus.... I think thery're a really respectable band! I love "A Crow left of Murder".... Very cool album. I hate the way that Hoobastank is like a carbon copy of Incubus!! Hoobastank sucks balls!

mutant! 11-16-2005 05:06 AM
I like incubus.... I think thery're a really respectable band! I love "A Crow left of Murder".... Very cool album. I hate the way that Hoobastank is like a carbon copy of Incubus!! Hoobastank sucks balls!
Dude, that's BS. Hoobastank sound nothing like Incubus. At all. Hell, look at their roots: Incubus started out as funk rock, Hoobastank was ska-punk. Their lineups are totally different, and so are their styles. Hoobastank has much more of a punk element, whereas Incubus is sitting firmly in the rock genre.

And besides, the bands started out around the same time and they're good friends so they won't rip each other off. They have worked together though - the sax solo at the end of Summer Romance was done by the former saxophonist for Hoobastank.

Sound Boy 11-16-2005 10:56 AM

umm i beg to differ...Hoobastank does sound alot like Incubus...but like the least talented version. but if you wanna hear a song that sounds like a carboncopied incubus song listen to "i dont know" by Lostprophets, its even got the dj scratches and everything

mutant! 11-16-2005 11:37 AM

Not true. Hoobastank definitely have their own sound. I'm going to go listen to them now, so I can be sure.

...OK, I've listened to a few Hoobastank tracks. The only stuff I've been able to found that sounds like Brandon and the boys is the chorus riff to Crawling In The Dark. Even that has more of a punk element to it, as far as chords and feel is concerned. I can easily analyze all the different aspects of their music and show you where they differ and where they overlap - I can promise you there's more difference than similarity there. I respect Hoobastank for being who they are; like Incubus, they've changed a lot since their original incarnation.

I assume that Lostprophets track is on Start Something - which track is it? (I don't know the track names.)

Sound Boy 11-16-2005 03:07 PM

its track 1 on start something

i see most of Hoobaincubus in their first album with "crawling in the dark" the newest album with that "reason" song on it was crappy and didnt sound much like incubus. its mostly the vocals and guitar that they take after. i guess its just me but i think Hooba is influenced by incubus.

black.hole.sun 11-16-2005 04:22 PM

I would say that there is some element of similarity between the two, but Incubus is far more "rock," for lack of a better word, than Hoobastank. Also Incubus has a far more diverse sound IMO.

Skyler 11-16-2005 08:12 PM

We're doing a featured artist thread in the guitar forum.

I wrote one on Mike Einziger. Check it out.

Spiritofmosa 11-16-2005 08:18 PM

the closest similarties between incubus , hoobastank and lostprophets etc. is the vocals.

enjoimx 11-16-2005 08:51 PM

but brandon no doubt, has the best voice , IMO. i think his voice is absolutley amazing.

Sound Boy 11-16-2005 09:07 PM

well yeah...duh <little bit of personal info...i havent said "duh" since like 9th grade>

Krashlanmar 11-16-2005 09:38 PM

I like Incubus __sometimes__. They rock when you are meloncholy. I don't know about you guys, but I personally like their slow[er] songs (Drive, I Wish You Were Here, etc.) better than the "fast[er]" ones.

That's not to say that their fast songs are horrible...

Overall, I'd have to say that their OK...

Sound Boy 11-18-2005 06:57 AM

Buh buh BUMP

you know. i just thought of it last night...the one thing i dislike about incubus is they dont have many sad songs. its good to have every now and then. i guess cause they dont have much to be sad about. and i guess they havent really caught that theme yet. beings that all thier albums have a certain theme

I think they do have sad songs but they don't express sadness in the clichèd acoustic guitar/djembe formula. They have slower songs like Monuments And Melodies, and then they have songs like, say, Smile Lines, which have quite melancholy lyrics but they don't go all Dashboard Confessional on us.

I think it's cool, though, that they're always happy or angry on stage. That makes for a good mosh pit. :thumb: I wish Brandon and Mike would go back to dreads and skate shoes though. This new surf pop image doesn't work for me. Even though I dress like that. :(

YEAH man! incubus in the .science - make yourself era. they were definetly killing it then, i mean you can tell that somethings just changed overall about their stage perforemance, not as lively, i mean dirk and mike used to god crazy sometimes on stage , now dirk is gone. kenny justy walks around. mikes mello-ed out, and brandon has too......still a good sho, but i prefer the old times.

and about the whole sad sont thing, i think warning is a sad song. not a cliche one like mentioned before the lyrics are pretty interesting, that girl walking around trying to warn people, now that her life has wasted away. not terribly sad but, a little remorsefull.

mutant! 11-18-2005 03:43 PM

Shame on you! How about the Fungus Amongus era? Hmm? Didn't think of that, did you? You bad Incubus fan you.

I always hate people who are all "purist" about bands like Incubus and System ("Mezmerize sucks, I'm so hXc, I listened to System before they were popular..." etc etc); however, now that I own Enjoy Incubus, I can actually say their old stuff was killer. Nothing wrong with the new stuff, I just prefer their older style.

Exactly what I was thinking. And besides, Mike has never looked good with any hairstyle other than dreads.

Yeah, Warning is the kind of song I was talking about. It's sad lyrics and the music is sad too, but in a very uniquely musical way.

enjoimx 11-18-2005 04:04 PM

yeah, this guy knows, lol. yeah i guess im a pretty sucky guy for forgetting fungus amongus, but o well. yeah people who say they are all hard core are gay, music is music dont diss someone cuz they havent " known" a band as long as you, lol. be happy they like good music.

Sound Boy 11-18-2005 07:31 PM

the last time i saw them live, Brandon and Ben were all over the place. and out of all the times i've seen them live(6 times) i've never seen Mike move far from his pedels.

Thats because they are his life force.

TheBeatlesarecoming 11-18-2005 10:18 PM

I think Incustank has a better ring to it...

I live in colorado and my sister went to there show at red rocks where they taped the DVD.

Well even when Mike used to play hard and move and all that good stuff he'd bob all around but always stay behind his pedals and microphone.

When will singer/guitarists learn to build their fx into their guitars and use the Britney Spears headset mike? Seriously, those inventions are there for a reason.

I know I'm getting my Xtina Aguilera mike this xmas... :D

Well you see, mutant!, those mics are actually fakes *gasp* as neither Britney nor Chrstina actually sing live *bigger gasp*. I'd much rather see a singer actually sing live but not move around that much, instead of dancing like a slut and using a backing track. *biggest gasp*

Better yet let's invent a mind-controlled effects database that operates according to your brainwaves.

Dancing like a slut becomes cool the moment you pick up a $3000 axe. :D

Backing tracks = Evanescence = gay. Sequencers, on the other hand, = Muse = cool. :D :D
