The Esoteric 06-21-2004 09:40 PM

I'm looking for a copy of the bootleg of some recordings never before released by Syd Barrett (also Pink Floyd kinda) called Magnesium Proverbs. It's got some songs like Vegetable Man and Candy and a Currant Bun. I have a version of it which I got from a friend of my mom's who got it from a friend blah blah blah, but it's missing a few tracks that, being a total Floydian, I really would like to own. If anyone has any idea where I could get a copy that would be awesome. (I think you can get it via RoIo's or something).

The Esoteric 06-21-2004 09:41 PM

End of the Night or The Crystal Ship.

Hmmm, I believe there is some kind of bottleg forum. Make a thread in the Pit, asking if anyone knows some good bottleg forums.

The Esoteric 06-21-2004 09:45 PM

Alright thanks.

RockAndRoll 06-22-2004 11:10 AM

Of all time by the doors- Break on through, i love that song, i can't help but have energy when it comes on, it's also the first song by them i'd ever heard.

Currently - Tell all the people, it's the first track on soft parade and i love it, it's sort of the same style as touch me.

But then there's other's like light my fire, rider's on the storm, when the music over etc... that are just completely amazing and you've got to o all the actions in the solo and such.

Paranoidd 06-22-2004 11:20 AM

Mine eyes have seen you, Waiting for the Sun, or Roadhouse Blues.

keep on phishin' 06-22-2004 12:30 PM

break on through, the end , and riders on the storm are good

Joencrap 06-22-2004 01:26 PM

not a revival, bands like zeppelin are amazing and now days all the most popular music is crap like all that 50 cent stuff so people appreciate the old music more, theres a saying that goes "A classic never dies"

Badmoon 06-22-2004 01:29 PM

^ Not all music is crap these days. Only the mainstream.

keep on phishin' 06-22-2004 01:33 PM

....one day the mainstream shall die a painful death

Sir_Lollipop_Man 06-22-2004 03:09 PM
Yet again I forgot imporant bands like Buffalo Springfield and Neil young. I love Neil young. I seem to forget everything that I really like until somebody reminds me :(
So why do you have to tell everyone else?

How about all the Brit Ska (Not Less Then Jake!) bands? :thumb:

Badmoon 06-22-2004 03:12 PM

^Because we were on the subject. and this is a Classic Rock thread, not Ska.

Sir_Lollipop_Man 06-22-2004 03:16 PM
....one day the mainstream shall die a painful death
what is wrong with mainstream? don't you realise that Rolling Stones are mainstream too? if you sell records then you are mainstream surely? Plus there are some great musicians today...need I mention the Red Hot Chili Peppers. How about all the rich *** mainstream electric bluesmen B.B. King, Ike Turner, Eric Clapton
I 'm confused now...but I appreciate your argument and would like a discussion. :)

keep on phishin' 06-22-2004 03:30 PM

i am just disgusted with the mainstream these days especially bands like linkin park, lostprophets, good charlotte, simple plant etc..

i dont really think bb king and ike turner are mainstream
but maybe you and i have a different definition of mainstream

LedZeppelin629 06-22-2004 03:34 PM

There's always going to be a mainstream, just like there will always be crap music. We just have to stick to bands we like.

Badmoon 06-22-2004 03:35 PM
what is wrong with mainstream? don't you realise that Rolling Stones are mainstream too? if you sell records then you are mainstream surely?
No, that's not true. If you sell records that make it big on the charts, if you have music videos that make it big on the charts. If are on MTV and are actually loved by most music listeners then you are mainstream. The Rolling Stones are not mainstream now. BB King, Ike Turner, and Eric Clapton are not mainstream.

RockAndRoll 06-22-2004 08:18 PM

If you consider popular and mainstream to mean the same thing there's nothing wrong with it.
If you consider mainstream to mean, consumer whoring, music based more on looks then actual music etc... then yes it's bad.

BludgeonySteve 06-22-2004 08:51 PM

Everything's wrong with the mainstream these days. The mainstream is for people who aren't real music fans but like to listen to something catchy on the radio or watch mtv and get into the whole idiot culture. There are plenty of good bands out now but the mainstream is just pre packaged crap that apeals to young children and in the case of nu metal and pop punk angsty teens who need an easy way to make an idenity for themselves (if they wanted to get into some prog metal or classic rock that would take work!).

Mainstream bands have taken the focus away from good music. In the 60s and 70s it was all about the music. People listened to entire albums at a time and explored music. They got into the experience and even non musicians cared about the talent of the band. The mainstream has killed that. Now the mainstream has led people away from quality music and made it so good bands don't get noticed. To be a popular mainstream band most bans have to "sell out" which makes the quality of the music suffer.

However if a band is good and finds a record company that will let them do their own thing and they become big that's fine. But how often does that happen anymore?

keep on phishin' 06-22-2004 09:09 PM

for the most part the kids just go along with whats popular. they dont even think for themselves.it seems that in the mainstream instead of playing their guitar they just wear it. there is good music these days but ppl just dont look for it. but i still prefer good ol' classic rock anyday :thumb:

natereiber 06-22-2004 09:10 PM
Rock n roll and classic rock are pretty much the same thing. At least I think they are anyway...
classic rock is just a term 2 describe older rock.. ofcourse its the same bands like led zeppelin and the who and jethro tull r ROCK obviously 30-40 years ago peopl didnt refer 2 them as classic rock musicians

LedZeppelin629 06-22-2004 09:33 PM

I know what you mean. Today people buy records and look for the song on the radio. Then when a new one appears on the radio, they listen to that song. Pathetic, if you ask me. I've thoroughly listened to every album i own and have ever owned. Sad, sad world.

The Esoteric 06-22-2004 10:47 PM

^Time changes all aspects of life. This just proves that it, unfortunately, effects music too.

LedZeppelin629 06-22-2004 11:09 PM

Actually, it effects people's outlook on music. As time went by, and music was mixed and shifted more, people became out of touch with music as we like it. Music in all forms has changed. We are now faced wiht music just hoping to make it big in the mainstream. 30 or 40 years ago, it was about the music, and only the music. Today, it's totally the opposite. I remember, when i was(sadly) in my punker phase, i remember thinking "we're going to be SO rich". I hated myself after i realized how much i really loved music, and now i'm never going that way again. Maybe, one day, if there are enough of us, we can bring back the days of it being about MUSIC, not CASH.
ok ok, i admit it, i'm a classic rock nut. i love led zeppelin, the beatles, the who, eric clapton, the doors, and so on. most of the bands i listen to broke up years before i was born. at 17, nearly every song on my playlist is older than me. but is it just my imagination, or is classic rock experiencing sort of a revival. i am running into an increasing number of classic rock fans my age. at my school (an all boys high school), the school newspaper took a poll of everyone's favorite genre and band. led zeppeling got 5th and the beatles got 6th, behind that rap crap. classic rock made up a large percent of ppls favorite genre. is this just by me, or are other ppl noticing this too?

o and for u classic rock fans, the crime of the new century was that the Yardbirds new CD, Birdland, recieved no attention at all. that deserved a grammy, or 6.

so are there any other classic rock fans out there, and even if ur not, have u been noticing somewhat of a revival in interest for that sort of music?
Classic Rock is definitely experiencing some sort of revival, i've been listening to classic rock since i was 2 about 13 years ago. I've loved all the music and mainly because my parents were always listening to it, now all of a sudden kids in my highschool are getting back into classic rock and it's incredible. If you go to most schools you'll see kids with their guitars sitting outside and they're playing the classics zep, beatles, floyd... its great!

Paranoidd 06-23-2004 12:19 AM

Listening to a whole album is always a great experience (unless the album sucks).

You'll always pick up a song that has meaning for you.

RockAndRoll 06-23-2004 12:36 AM

The best part about listening to whole albums is that you actually get to hear new songs, and you find one of those songs that you may not have heard before but you wonder why the hell it hasn't already been declared the best song of all time, and then while listening to another CD you relaize it's because there can't be 2 (or 3 etc).

Badmoon 06-23-2004 12:40 AM

^Yeah, it adds musical intelligence. So, whenever my mom or dad ask why I buy so many CD's that's my excuse.

Badmoon 06-23-2004 02:47 AM

Have any of you noticed that Rock music is kind of ruling this board now?

BludgeonySteve 06-23-2004 12:43 PM

Which board^? Rock and metal or mx?

If rock and metal then I agree. The majority of the threads are about rock/classic rock.

The Esoteric 06-23-2004 02:47 PM

Yeah I wish there was more metal threads out there. Don't get me wrong I love classic rock, but I love metal too.

Usually MX altogether is a forum, he sub forums are the boards, atleast that's the way I put it.

RockAndRoll 06-23-2004 09:30 PM

It has been lately, but for a long time it was metal ruling, it's good to have some more threads i can actually post in in here.

Badmoon 06-23-2004 09:31 PM
