I need some more hip-hop. I'm thinking I need a list of essential albums of the genre. Can you wise bastards give me some reccommendations.
Make sure you get the High Plains Drifter album by Jehst.

Happymeal 08-18-2006 07:37 PM

So I got the new Dilla and the Oh No album a couple days ago. Both of them I'm currently hooked on.

ATM 08-19-2006 06:49 PM

I got some Pete Rock and CL Smooth which is sooo damn good.

Glitterati 08-20-2006 12:11 AM

I'm a casual Outkast fan but I'm really digging what I've heard off Idlewild so far.
so i've heard somewhere that jay-z doesn't write, but instead listens to his beat for a while and then just goes up, records, and then edits later.

any validity to this?
It's true, and pretty damn impressive too.
I heard the new Aceyalone at work today, really cool stuff.

So who has heard the Idlewild leak?
Aceyalone is really good. I really need more stuff by them, I'm gonna download some more stuff soon.

Little Man being Erased 08-20-2006 07:04 AM

Thanks for all the recs people, I'll be checkin' out a whole bunch of those. Don't let me stop anyone else that would like to help though.

The Great Decay 08-20-2006 05:26 PM

The only hip hop I've been able to get into heavily is that of Sage Francis and Sole.

ATM 08-20-2006 05:28 PM

If you like Sage you might like Saul Williams.

The Great Decay 08-20-2006 05:31 PM

I have his s/t. He's quite good, too.

ATM 08-20-2006 05:35 PM

Hm, well try tracking down a copy of:

One Be Lo - S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M.

It's one of my favorites from '05.

publicastration 08-20-2006 06:11 PM

Two words:

Immortal Technique.

Apart from him and Natas, I don't care for hip hop.

SantaDuJuan 08-20-2006 06:48 PM

I enjoy Immortal Technique.

I haven't really gotten into the album yet, except for "Morris Brown". I'm uber stoked for the movie however.
