How many Demons and Wizards fans do we have in the house?
check out the thread i made for the new album yesterday, seems to have mixed reviews which i dont understand...i happen to love the new cd, although the last few tracks are weak (just like the last album).

FrailandBedazzled1979 06-29-2005 06:33 PM
On the first few albums, Hansi played bass. But on the last couple ones, they've hired a session player named Oliver Holzwarth so that Hansi can focus on his singing full-time.

Though he has talked about considering picking up the bass again.
and Olivers brother is Alex has played drums for Angra, Rhapsody, Avantasia, Paradox, etc...i just saw him with Rhapsody....KILLER drum solo...jesus :thumb:

Terrorzone 06-29-2005 07:31 PM

I just saw Rhapsody with Manowar and Holy Hell. They put on great shows. And like he said, Alex had a great drum solo.

CaptainWaits 06-29-2005 11:12 PM

Since ManoWars been brought up...Who has heard "Flight of the Bumblebee" or "My Spirit Lives On"???

I find ManoWar to be extremely cheesy and lame, but those two tracks showed me they're pretty talented. Both solo tracks, "Flight of the Bumblebee" being Bass, "My Spirit Lives On" guitar.

Great solo tracks if you ask me

RiceMonster 06-29-2005 11:14 PM

I wanted to go see Manowar and Rhapsody for the Rhapsody part, but sadly, I was broke and had to save my money for gigantour.

Lord Abortion 06-30-2005 03:09 AM

bah, you Americans and your Gigantour,

my gig schedule is pretty full though

sonata arctica at thirteenth day?
will I go?
you bet your hat I am!

Stoic 06-30-2005 03:12 AM

A question about Rhapsody: Their songs are symphonic with choirs and stuff, how do they play them live?

Skeksis 06-30-2005 06:38 AM
bah, you Americans and your Gigantour
I'm going to see Symphony X kick some serious ***.

x_Evilized_x 06-30-2005 07:31 AM

Hammerfall! \m/

My last purchase was Sonata Arctica - Silence. =D

Lost Horizon rawk!!! :thumb:

Only power metal band i like(and heard) is Helloween but its great so don't need any more power :P

Stoic 06-30-2005 11:05 AM

What I've heard from Helloween (especially their early stuff) it's indeed pretty good and they have been very influencial for the genre. This doesnt mean that there is no other great power metal out there *coughs* Blind Guardian *coughs*

/fanboy :p

Arucard 06-30-2005 11:07 AM

Angr's drummer is so tight live its unreal. Its just insane.

Helloween only released one worthy album IMO. "Dark Ride". Blind Guardian, hasn't released a weak record yet :)

Stoic 07-01-2005 11:45 AM

"yet", I'm so anxious about their next step. Dont you like any of the first three (helloween)?

The only album I really cared for out of the first 3 was "Keeper of the Seven Keys: Part I"...

..."Part II" didn't appeal to me, and for their first release (forget the name), I still haven't heard the whole album, only a selective few tracks....and I didn't care for them much. Maybe they were just poorly picked tracks.

ExitWound 07-01-2005 12:18 PM

I haven't been here in quite some time, so apologies if I've missed chat about the following questions.

Anyone hear anything about Gamma Ray's Majestic beside what's on their website? Can't wait. It's been so long since we've had new material from them.

Anyone know where I can pickup Lust for Live the DVD in NTSC (region0) for less than the import price of like $55? Heading for the East was cheap, like $15 but Lust for Live is always so expensive.

Anyone get Nostradameus' Hellbound? It's CRAZY. I have a few samples on my website: Clicky here for free songs.

Anyone check out Reviver? I got my name in the Special Thanks in the liner notes of their debut album AND an autographed copy for being a big fan. :thumb: Incredible stuff.

ExitWound 07-01-2005 12:27 PM
I'm minutes away from listening to the new Demons & Wizards album. I gotta say, I haven't been this excited to listen to a new album in a long time. I'll post remarks after my, hopefully incredible, listening experience.
I dislike it immensely. I think it's a step down from their first release. The compositions are less D&W and more like "Hansi does Iced Earth". The drumming is more in your face in this release, which to me as a drummer is fun to listen to, but it kinda pulls my attention away from the rest of the music. Hansi's voice is decent as always, but it's just doesn't strike me the way the initial release did. I don't know. The cover of Immigrant Song isn't worth the disk space either. Overall, I prefer the first disc.

Well done, lucky man :thumb:. I have never heard of these bands before, thanks a lot for recommending them.

I remember you from somewhere...Arent you the guy who was saying that you cannot fully appreciate Nightfall in Middle Earth unless you've read the book? Well you've made me read it and I totally agree with you. I was looking for you some months ago to explain me a few things on the concept but couldnt find you. Thankfully, a newbie suggested me a pretty helpful site. POST MORE!

Which Stratovarius album would you guys recommend for someone whose favorite songs are

Eagleheart
Speed of Light
Phoenix
Stratosphere

IheartSP 07-01-2005 12:51 PM

You happend to pick songs pretty much all from different albums. Try out Elements Pt. 1 or Infinite.

Mkay, thanks! I've been wanting to get an album, but never knew which one to start with. All the Stratovarius songs I have are the ones people have uploaded me on this board, so.

IheartSP 07-01-2005 01:16 PM

I uploaded Black Diamond at one point in the YSI thread idk if it'd still be up for download, it was a few days ago.

ACircuitShock 07-01-2005 01:17 PM

I'm just getting into power metal. I've started with Iced Earth, which I realize isn't exactly power metal, but it's opened the door to more stuff like it. I also have Blind Guardian's Nightfall in Middle Earth which is amazing. Can anyone recommend me or upload some Galloglass? I've never heard them and the whole violin idea intrigues me. Thanks.

Try out Stratovarius for some really melodic powermetal. Dragonforce is good too if you like extremely cheesy stuff.

 They are so cheesy it's funny. I listen to them when I need a laugh. I have this one song on a GuitarOne cd.

IheartSP 07-01-2005 01:21 PM

I don't perticularly like them even with cheesiness aside. They are so boring compared to Stratovarius.

Will do, thanks. Cheesiness is ok, I can ignore it for the guitar work.

Just in case you're wondering; think Avenged Sevenfold meets Journey. :thumb:
