cunning stunts vs. S and M

which dvd should i get?
S&M

Burdcheese 01-18-2005 11:52 AM

S&M is fantastic.
Get it.

Though obviously the right answer is get them all

Fernandes Power 01-18-2005 11:59 AM

They arent similar, so you cant compare which one you should get... IMO Hetfield is FAR MORE on form in S&M than Cunning Stunts
i have a subject.
Lets talk about songs that we used to hate, but now love it.
I used to hate the four horsemen, but i now love it.
same with the call of ktulu
I used to hate the album st anger just like everyone else, but now i like it. i think people who hate st anger should at least check out the unnamed feeling.

Yes thank you captain obvious. Covers still apply to the topic.

FFbassist26 01-18-2005 02:34 PM

i used to hate most of st anger, but then i saw some live, it kicked ***.

Leper 01-18-2005 02:45 PM
i used to hate most of st anger, but then i saw some live, it kicked ***.
Ya even the St. Anger tracks were pretty sweet in concert. I really don't understand tho why fans of St. Anger are so fond of The Unnamed Feeling. IMO this isn't a very good song, but maybe that's because im not a fan of St. Anger in general.

Leper 01-18-2005 02:48 PM

^^ ^^
Some Kind of Monster too.
Woah... you dont like the Four Horsemen...?

Thats like...the song to sum up great Metallica
i love four horsemen

i said i dont have to include call of ktulu

Mister_Che 01-18-2005 03:56 PM

Does anybody else prefer James' voice live than in the studio?

munky_magik 01-18-2005 03:58 PM

I wouldn't say that there's a whole lot of difference between them.

Mister_Che 01-18-2005 04:01 PM

I think the most prominent example would be Master of Puppets. his vox on S&M sounded better in my opinion.

munky_magik 01-18-2005 04:03 PM

I forgot about his earlier vocals. But once his voice matured it was pretty much the same in the stucio and live.

^Dream~Theater^ 01-18-2005 04:03 PM

Metallica are one of those bands that sound just as good live as they do studio. Bothers me when bands can't pull off their songs live..sounds horrible.

Instument wise they do a good job. Better in most cases. Same with vocals. But does anybody else get turned off when he sings Nothing Else Matters? I don't like it much live.

Hey Dream, I'm planning on getting a Dream Theater CD today after work, anything you can recommend?

munky_magik 01-18-2005 04:14 PM

Try Scenes from a Memory. or maybe Awake.
If you like heavy shreddy stuff get Train of Thought.

EDIT: just for the record, I do realise that I'm not DT. I just felt like answering

very true. the only thing differently nowadays is that hetfield is getting older so his vocals aren't as great as they were 20 years ago, but the music is still as good/better than the studio

Train of Thought is next on my DT buying list, though I want them all eventually.

I personally think that Hetfield's voice sounded best on the Load era albums. In the earlier days his voice was too high, and now its starting to be more limited. But on Load/Reload/Garage Inc./S&M he has both a gravity and a maturity

Burdcheese 01-18-2005 04:27 PM
that was pretty odd/random...
Yeah I thought so too

Mister_Che 01-18-2005 04:56 PM

Random indeed, but it's pretty interesting to go "Holy crap, there ARE people like that."

meh....

JACKROXYOU 01-18-2005 05:17 PM

Mister_Che 01-18-2005 05:22 PM
