I finally got Aqualung and Deep Purple's Greatist Hits. (I'm usually against greatest hits, but it was all I could find so I decided to buy it.)

StreetlightRock 10-24-2004 09:17 AM

d'amn, you should have looked out for 'Burn', they remastered it and 're-released' a annerversery version of it recentally.

I heart Simons voice.

DVG.

Yea I wasn't sure if I wanted to spend more money to buy a few of their individual albums offline. I don't know if I like Deep Purple enough to buy them though.

StreetlightRock 10-24-2004 09:32 AM

Fairy' 'nuff. That said, Burn is an amazing song. The way its constructed on the guitar is great, its so simple yet sounds so awsome.

Yea all the songs are pretty good. It all kind of sounds the same to me a little bit. Therefore, just the greatist hits CD is enough for now.

Ooh Lucky 7's.

Woodstock 10-24-2004 10:08 AM

At the record show, I picked up these, both on vinyl:

Santana 1(still factory sealed)

CSN s/t

**** you! I was wanting to get Aqualung and a Deep Purple album too! Didn't have the money for both, didn't have the money for Aqualung, but I got Deep Purple in Rock instead (way better then any Greatest Hits crap, but you have to go to one of those large underground CD stores to do it)

jpj 10-24-2004 12:17 PM

Machine Head is a kick *** album
Aqualung is a really kick *** album

BludgeonySteve 10-24-2004 01:38 PM

Tull> Deep Purple

Simple mathamatics my friends.

Woodstock 10-24-2004 02:08 PM

Deep Purple are very very overrated.
Actually, I think they're both overated. Deep Purple moreso.

thickasabrick 10-24-2004 02:11 PM

tull is way better than deep purple in my opinion. most people only look at aqualung because its their most mainstream album, but they have lots of great blues and folk albums as well...they mastered every genre of music. in '88 they won best metal band for some thing, which was like twenty years after they formed.

Add one more very to that and you have yourself a deal ;)

I agree. This is why Machine Head=kick *** album, while Aqualung=really kick *** album. The really changes everything.

Metallica only had 2 good albums anyways.

Woodstock 10-24-2004 02:23 PM

We need a new topic. This thread is slowing down,....... a lot.

Lets combine our brain power.

jpj 10-24-2004 02:25 PM

Hmm...I can't think of anything :upset:

BludgeonySteve 10-24-2004 02:29 PM

Yes, holy fux0rz only 26 poss in 10 hours

What does everyone think of odd instuments being used in rock? Like Tull's flute or The Grateful dead's banjo playing. Or even the bagpipes in ac/dc's "it's a long way to the top (if you want to rock n roll)".

I personally think that the reason why today's rock music is slipping is because of lack of addition instruments. It's just guitar, bass drums now.

Discuss the advantages in Rock music of uncommon instruments to it.

jpj 10-24-2004 02:31 PM

I think Tull's flute adds a lot to their music. I honestly don't think Thick As a Brick would be nearly as good without it.

Perfect Example: Pink Floyd

They used so many odd intruments, it's impossible to count.

RockAndRoll 10-24-2004 03:12 PM

Odd instruments are great, They're different and different is good. You can't just do the same old thing over and over, it gets boring. The music must change! Whether it's instruments or song structure or whatever.

Broken Arrow 10-24-2004 03:23 PM

I haven't posted much this weekend.

Anyways Im know its not odd but I love harmonica in music,

Not enough Harmonica.:(

Also Marimba in "Under My Thumb"

AND EVERYONE loves the sitar!!

RockAndRoll 10-24-2004 03:26 PM

I like supertramp's use of instruments.

jpj 10-24-2004 03:29 PM

The sitar in Paint It Black is awesome.

RockAndRoll 10-24-2004 03:31 PM

I would like to learn some more instruments.

I can play the drum set very well, I can play and write some piano, and i can play a bunch of orchestral percussion. Hopefully I'll be getting and learning to play a djembe soon too.
