neg the ****er

YDload 02-16-2008 02:07 PM

i will, and my message will be @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Time 02-16-2008 02:09 PM

I just won Leaves Turn Inside You on ebay for 4 bucks, I'm excited to get it.

Zmev 02-16-2008 02:12 PM

I still haven't heard that.

YDload 02-16-2008 02:15 PM

everyone should hear it. its one of those albums that... it's not quite "progressive" but you get a sense of how much effort they put into its production and dynamics. sort of like listening to In Absentia or Source Tags and Codes or hell, even one of the good Radiohead albums. you know what I mean? it's got that sense of "okay this is IMPORTANT" to it, and you won't mistake it for just another album.

Zmev 02-16-2008 02:17 PM

You have mentioned 3 things I like. I'll check for it on my external hd because I put it there and never listened to it.

Neoteric 02-16-2008 02:29 PM

I've only used 30gb of my external :/

Zmev 02-16-2008 02:30 PM

My old 100gb one got all used up so I bought a 500gb one

Tyr 02-16-2008 02:31 PM

I really should buy a new external. I'm afraid that my current one's going to crash soon.

Neoteric 02-16-2008 02:33 PM

I've only had mine since Christmas but it was pretty cheap so I'm scared mine will crash as well.

Tyr 02-16-2008 02:34 PM

Mine's two years old, I think. And it's almost full.

Bukowski 02-16-2008 02:34 PM

Mine has began making strange noises when its turned off. Therefore, I am also scared, but haven't got the money to get another one.

Tyr 02-16-2008 02:43 PM

I really don't either, but I might have to cut back on other stuff to be able to buy a new one.

Bukowski 02-16-2008 02:46 PM

I might need to stop going to college for a while to save up...those train fares are quite a bitch.

Tyr 02-16-2008 02:47 PM

I was looking forward to play Rock Band, but yeah.

YDload 02-16-2008 02:54 PM

Whenever I download a new batch of stuff, it goes on Amarok's list of newly inputted albums. I listen to all of them on the list. All together I have more than 30,000 songs, a very good portion to I've listened to. At the very least I've heard all of the albums I own, for some not the entirety of them but I will eventually.

You're just seeing a discrepancy between your listening habits, in which you listen to the same 50 albums repeatedly while at the same time seeing everyone else as having the same listening habits as you, but only we're just a bunch of nerds that like to download obscure stuff. Not true. The only way you develop a wide range of taste is by taking a chance and downloading something you don't know for sure that you'll like immediately. On first listen they may seem inaccessible, but you develop skills and learn more about the music in order to appreciate it. That is how you get from listening to the same bunch of albums repeatedly, to going from 80's stoner metal to 50's free form jazz and right around to modern electronica.

The objective isn't to become a faggot nerd on the internet with a bigger e peen, it is driven by risk taking and a love for music in general. Of course all of this requires an open mind and lots of free time, which are the hallmarks of becoming a nerd. I realy don't think anyone cares about that label since we all have thousands of posts on internet forums.

I'm just addressing a theme that seems to run in this forum. The fact that our mod doesn't have the same or wide range of tastes as the main users do, and looks down at us for "hoarding".

I'm in an argumentative mood today.

pixiesfanyo 02-16-2008 03:37 PM

i listen to Electric Wizard AND Miles Davis.

Neoteric 02-16-2008 03:37 PM

I just have a recently downloaded folder on my computer and listen to albums in that folder.

Yeah Shellac and bands like them are cool

asdf 02-16-2008 05:16 PM

Hey, alt and indie, hey! Calm down! Now let's all try and remain mature here.

Hows about YDload starts a thread to list albums or songs that pertain to some specific thing about them where likely the Jesus Lizard can be listed, hmm?

Anxious 02-16-2008 05:24 PM

Capital idea!

Neoteric 02-16-2008 05:27 PM

i find it kinda cute that ydload only really listens to five or so bands
