Chris- Can you do anything in CEP, or is it just that file that's freaking out? If it's just the file, you could probably just save it as an mp3 and then finish doing it in CEP. I'm sure you've thought of this as it's fairly obvious, but I might as well point it out.

Knifeboy- Stinkfist is still open..:D
The Lateralus file is extremely large.

When I record I have the actual Lateralus song up, as well as faith+1's drums. I do that to make sure everything is in time. I think there's just too much going at once, but it's just been randomly shutting down and not saving anything in the last couple days.

I've tried everything. It's time for a new program. Don't have time for shit. :)
Ah. So I'm guessing it's not gonna be too soon?.. aww, I'm able to record vocals tomorrow, but I can't do it without a guitar track to guide me
I have everything done except the very last part of the outro. There aren't any vocals over the part I don't have, but it sounds terrible. Some of the timing is off in some parts, but it should be enough to do vocals over. If not, I apologize. :upset:

Oh yeah, you guys need to keep the spam down. This is the Tool thread, not the open discussion thread. /warning

ThePatient 07-05-2005 10:41 PM

Listen to the actual song on headphones.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-05-2005 10:42 PM

Yeah, since Marshall sync'd it up perfectly with the original, you might as well do that...

Expresso 07-05-2005 10:43 PM

Dr. Jake... What is the process for this... would you send me an already made guitar track to play along to, or would I record along to the song? Clue me in, happy to help.

Dried Muffin Remnants 07-05-2005 10:44 PM

Danny Carey was an integral part of Tool the last time I checked...

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-05-2005 10:48 PM

Expresso- Yes. I'll link you in one second to the Stinkfist guitar track. :thumb:

In Chains- perhaps that wasn't what he was talking about. (clue: cunt)

Right click-->save target as where it says mp3 next to Stinkfist and Ænema(needs solo..) You can play along to those. Ænema has MIDI drums, so that should make it easier for you, but Stinkfist is just the guitar track. Also, you may have to join soundclick to download, but hey, it'll be worth it. (unless you're already a member, then it shouldn't be a problem.)

Dried Muffin Remnants 07-05-2005 10:52 PM

Okay, I'll stop using my favorite word. :upset:

I would love it if you could upload what you already have.
And the reason that I don't just sing along to the song is that when I'm listening to the recording afterwards without the guitar, I still can't judge if my vocals are off

Yeah, some of the notes may be held on too long...
Yeah....way too long. Almost like you were trying to turn it into another song...however, I must say that if you had more control you seem to really have the same setup...larynx wise that maynard has that mid way between baritone and tenor. Would you happent to know if youre a tenor or not? You could probably sound just like that motherfvcker.

btw....is there a link to the aenima backing track? I'd like to give it a go.

kurrpt 07-06-2005 06:52 AM

clearvision 07-06-2005 06:53 AM

There may be a link on the lachrymologists soundclick page, but i don't know the addy...

I recorded the guitar part so i have it all on my computer... : \

I used to sing tenor parts when i was amde to go to choir /lame ... so i guess I'm probably a tenor...

I may be able to record later when my mum goes out *crosses fingers*

That Lateralus track is the "wrong" one, with midi drums.

and it's a little bit faster than the original.. hm

Adam Jones is GOD 07-06-2005 06:59 AM

Its the only one I have on my PC though, I must have missed the updated one.

I do the uploading as Jake is still on dial up, so if he's had a request at an update, let me know if he doesnt.

denboy 07-06-2005 07:03 AM

The other one just consists of faith playing the drums.. And nothing else.. Yet.. hehe

barnz1986 07-06-2005 08:11 AM

i didnt like their no quarter. they butchered up a good song.
i didnt like their no quarter. they butchered up a good song.
Nah, Tool's version was better, most people will agree.

clearvision 07-06-2005 09:29 AM

ITT I'm a fool...

The reason my mic wouldn't work...was i had it in the line in slot + not the mic slot...

recordings coming up with good quality when my mum takes a trip out :)
i didnt like their no quarter. they butchered up a good song.
Wow I thought they took the original and completely gave it a new vibe.. much better than the original.

Me too, I like Tool's version better.

Dried Muffin Remnants 07-06-2005 12:06 PM

I thought that they took one of Led Zep's more mediocre songs and improved on it. (No Quarter)

metalliman1066 07-06-2005 12:23 PM

does anybody know any bands that are like tool?
thnx for any comments
does anybody know any bands that are like tool?

That is a difficult question.. it's been asked before but there aren't any straight sound-alike band's... your best bet would be to check out more progressive bands.. perhaps bands like Dredg, Opeth, Kyuss, and perhaps Pink Floyd.

denboy 07-06-2005 12:34 PM

Add porcupine tree to that progressive bands list.. Although none of these bands sound like Tool. They contain some of the same elements that make Tool great

Otherside 07-06-2005 12:35 PM

If you took away the heaviness of Tool, I think you would be pretty much left with early day Radiohead. Maybe.

Huber 07-06-2005 12:35 PM

Rush is the only other Prog Rock band I like (or heard).

clearvision 07-06-2005 12:36 PM

You could try Peach, Justin's (bassist) old band...

Then there is A perfect cirlce, maynards side project, which often is compared to tool...

Then there is Chevelle, they are alot simpler than tool. Their singer reminds me of maynard slightly...

Coheed and Cambria are kind of progressive pop-punk, some of their riffs remind me of adams work...

LedZeppFan83 07-06-2005 12:37 PM

Well..........

- I just started getting into Tool, but i really like their songs "Schism" and "Sober".
