Morning everyone. Hows it going?

T

Win A Rabbit 04-19-2008 01:10 AM

yeah so one of my friends has the conflict-solving skills of an infant.

i went to hang out with my friends, and the friend who's house it is was sleeping on the couch when i got there, and went to bed like 20 minutes later. we were playing rockband, and everyone else was drunk. it was fun for a while, and then she starts banging on the floor, so we turn it down a bit, and keep playing.

one friend gets way drunker and starts singing super loud into the microphone, and we all start jumping around and playing, being generally noisy. it's just after midnight on a friday at this point. she comes downstairs, yells "I TOLD YOU TO TURN IT DOWN STOP IGNORING ME TURN DOWN THE GOD DAMN TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!", starts crying, runs upstairs to her bedroom, and stomps on the floor for about 15 seconds.

at which point the air vent in the ceiling falls down and lands right on the singer's head. so he starts overexaggeratedly screaming into the microphone until she stomps her way down the stairs with tears running down her face and says "GET OUT OF MY ****ING HOUSE BEFORE I CALL THE COPS!!!!!!!!!!" at which point i said (she had told me this like a month ago when we were staying in a hostel and everyone was being super loud at 4 am and i was grumpy and trying to sleep) "because it's illegal to make noise..." and she threw a disgusting fit, worse than any child i've ever seen before.

like seriously, how can a 20-year-old have such bad conflict-solving skills? if she wanted us to take her seriously all she had to say was "hey guys i'm pretty tired i was up early do you guys mind just playing a couple more songs?"

atleast it took my mind off everything, and now that i look at the lame stuff from earlier today it doesn't seem as horrible, which is nice.

Seafroggys 04-19-2008 01:12 AM

You guys shouldn't have been loud, despite how she asked you to keep quiet.

Win A Rabbit 04-19-2008 01:16 AM

well yeah, but what else can you expect from 7 drunk people on a friday night playing a game that requires volume, and then talking overtop of it?

like i said, conflict-solving skills. as in we were causing a conflict, and she just ended up provoking everyone.

fishbulb 04-19-2008 01:47 AM

Fun game, right?

Win A Rabbit 04-19-2008 01:58 AM

generally i'm not a huge fan of it, but tonight it was really fun.

at one point there were 5 of us playing the drums on expert. we each had one drum.

and for a while i was playing the bass drum and guitar.

BummerJonny 04-19-2008 03:27 AM

Retarded Chipple 04-19-2008 12:41 PM

I haven't seen Knocked Up but I can't imagine it being better than Superbad.

I'll probably end up watching that film again tonight, for like the 3rd time this week!

Panopticon 04-19-2008 12:44 PM

superbad wasn't THAT good.

Retarded Chipple 04-19-2008 12:46 PM

i dunno maybe it's just from people over hyping it, but it wasn't that good a movie.

I'm sick of people saying "funny thing about my back is that its located on my c*ck"

srsly...it gets fcking old, and the line is not even that funny.

Win A Rabbit 04-19-2008 01:09 PM

i haven't seen knocked up or cloverfield. i fail.

Retarded Chipple 04-19-2008 01:32 PM

Ok.......big rant coming up.......need your thoughts though, so give it a read.

So....the other day I met up with this guitarist who answered my "drummer available" ad on partysounds.co.uk. He was looking to start up a band...kinda Britpop/Rock & Roll sorta style. Not totally my thing but I can live with it and I'm desperate for a band.

So I met up with him and this other guitarist he'd found. They seemed alright, chatted for a while and then got onto the subject of where to practice. The general consensus was to hire out a studio seeing as there's plenty of cheap ones around. The guy also said that practising in his garage could be a possibility although he'd have to check with his parents. Fair enough.

Next day he says to me "we can practise in my garage but on one condition: you have to have silencers on your drums.....do you have any?"

Seeing as I don't have any, I said no. He then asked me to get some. I was like "dude, I don't really wanna spend £40 for some rubber pads that are gonna make my drums sound like cardboard....."

After like an hour of me explaining that I meant "play on cardboard boxes", not "put cardboard boxes over my drums", he pretty much said that I had to buy silencers to be in the band. I was like "dude, I'll just play cardboard....why spend money to make a drum kit sound like cardboard boxes when you can just play cardboard boxes....it's cheaper and easier to transport!"

According to him, drums still sound the same with silencers on, only quieter (dampening acts like a volume button!) He later bought up how he'd played a silenced kit before (convenient how he suddenly remembered) as though to back up what he was saying like "I've played a kit with pads on so I should know" kinda thing. Pretty patronising imo.

I explained to him that silencers eliminate attack and resonance which are the basic things that make drums sound like drums! Hence my cardboard theory.

Then today, he told me I had to get silencers or they'd have to look for another drummer. I appreciate the fact that we can't play loud but I don't fancy lugging my kit over to his house only to put old t-shirts on them or whatever. Bit of a waste of time and money imo.

He then put it straight: Buy silencers and be in the band or don't buy silencers and not be in the band. Hitting cardboard = the no band option, apparently. So I asked about hiring a studio....his words were "I'm not earning enough money, neither is Matt [the other guitarist] and neither are you. It's not really an option but getting silencers is."

Tbh, that is bullsh!t. Don't tell me Tesco aint paying him enough to get the bus into town and play in a studio for a couple of hours once a week! The other guy (who was pretty cool btw) seems freakin loaded! He's running a 2006 BMW, 3.2 Litre engine and is buying a house in Cheltenham. Sounds like he's got money to spare!

The argument just went round like that - no cardboard, no studio, get silencers because they don't affect anything other than the volume...if you don't get them, you can't be in the band.

Am I being a total ass about it? Should I spend £40 to silence my kit then lug it over to this guys house when I could just hit other things that are cheaper and sound similar to a kit with silencers on it?

Retarded Chipple 04-19-2008 01:40 PM
I'm sick of people saying "funny thing about my back is that its located on my c*ck"

I think it is quite a funny line but it only really works in the context of the film...or at least on the rare occasions it may work in general conversation i.e when someone sets you up for the line with the "you scratch my back..." saying (which is not THAT often as as I'm aware). But yeah, I can see how it'd get annoying when people keep saying it all the time.

trysthedrummer 04-19-2008 01:42 PM

No. Tell em to get f**ked. What does he seriously know though, as he thinks the drums sound the same (only quiter) with silencers on. Don't be in this band.

Retarded Chipple 04-19-2008 01:44 PM

So I'm not being a jerk about it....?

He said more dumb sh!t (imo) but I'll leave that for now....

....maybe...?

trysthedrummer 04-19-2008 01:48 PM

What's the point in dragging a set just to put silencers on.

Try and go in a studio as you were saying...
