Everyone has to find that out eventually.
"Did you see Friends last night?" "I don't watch that show." "Well, anyway there's this part where Joey-" "I don't watch that show." "And then Phoebe got really mad at-" "I said I don't watch that show! I don't care!" "But of course they were too embarassed to tell each other." "What will it take to shut you up?! Do I have to stab myself in the face with a fork?!" The sad thing is, this is based on a real conversation and I'm not taking much creative license.
yeah but who is to say your conversations would be any less boring "Did you see that <obscure band> concert last night?" "I don't listen to them." "Well, anyway there's this part where the bass goes into a solo-" "I don't listen to them." "And then the vocalist gets really mad at-" "I said I don't listen to them! I don't care!" "But of course they were too embarassed to have a drum solo." "What will it take to shut you up!? Do I have to stab myself in the face with a fork?!" just being the devil's advocate |
just being the devil's advocate
of course :thumb: but i ask you. Which is worse? Feigning interest, or saying flat out IM NOT INTERESTED my dad does the latter. Kinda disheartening  |
i'm a polite gentlemanly sort of guy so i feign interest

The instant I see that someone has absolutely no interest in broadening their horizons a bit, I end the topic right there. And I'm also able to see that someone who listens to My Chemical Romance and Coldplay probably wouldn't be all that receptive to Death, Savatage, Dillenger Escape Plan, and Sabaton. I just wished others were able to see the same with me. I don't go around pushing my bands on others, so I really wish they'd stop pushing their TV shows on me. Hell, I don't even watch much TV aside from a couple shows on Comedy Central and Food Network.
but i ask you. Which is worse? I'd rather not perform the converational equivalent of faking an orgasm. |
i create my own conversational orgasms by recognizing its not the best topic of conversation, and paint it in an interesting light.

I stare blankly at whoever is talking if they are boring.
Here's that classical guitarist I was talking about:
http://media.putfile.com/09---the_hut_of_babayaga Remember, it's just ONE guitar! :-D His achievements and performances were considered so impossible and incredible, that most people thought he was faking it :-O
Wowowow :-O Good stuff. I missed the name though.
"Did you see Friends last night?" "I don't watch that show." "Well, anyway there's this part where Joey-" "I don't watch that show." (no joking by the way) That always works. |

Jesus haploid Christ, I hate this campus internet! It's so slow!

 He played pieces that were considered to be so impossible that he was accused of so many horrible things by established Western classical guitarists who were shocked that a young man from the East could just show up and teach them all about their "own" art music tradition. It really is a sad story :-( |
Eggo, you are at Hopkins right?
|
Yep.
|
cool how you liking it? have you gone into DC for any shows yet?
|
I love it here :-D
The workload can be insane (and sometimes insanely hard) though...But the really bad stuff will hit me in the fall (Systems Neuroscience, Biochemistry, and Organic Chemistry), heh. I haven't gone to DC...Not really any free time to travel around, hehe. |

It really is a sad story :-(
Clasical musicians are just like that. Simon Shaheen once performed at my campus and told an anecdote of a time he was talking with a classical violinist. The violinist wanted to hear some of his jazz/folk improv, so he handed Simon a violin. Simon retuned all four strings to match his playing style, much to the violinist's horror, and played for a few minutes. The violinist said, "Simon, it's great that you can create such wonderful music off the top of your head... but did you have to play so many notes wrong?" |
Well, the difference in Kazuhito's story is that everyone was horrified that was playing so many notes right :D

I'm a Neuroscience major.
I'm a Neuroscience major.
Sounds... complicated. :( |
Sounds...
complicated. :(
Haha, I guess. It's such a cool field though. It's the last frontier of medicine and physiological science and everything is so new and cutting edge. Heck, my textbook for Cog Sci (Cognitive Neuroscience) is only on it's second edition! The most awesome part is that most of the stuff we talk about in the lectures actually happen or have happened at my school! JHU is one of the leading places for advances in neuroscience research...Research that I will hopefully soon be contributing to \M/ |
I think I'd go crazy doing something practical at University.

hes definitely a smart dude. Our conversations usually know no bounds. Most of the time, we just try to out humor the other person. No holds barred of course |
I wasn't saying he wasn't smart.
