You don't need lessons to learn these songs KILO. It takes time. Spend 4 hours of your day JUST on one of these songs, and I can guarantee you (if done properly) you will learn %80 of the song. Solo's may take a while, but learn all the rythm parts first. Once you have that out of the way, you'll have time to concentrate on the solos. I found that the spider-chord pattern for MOP was difficult, but after I spent 2 hours on it (with the help of a metronome) I learned to alternate pick it.

Don't jinx it, James might wear old navy and start a tour with Simple Plan. Imagine hearing them sing "I'm addicted."

i have a teacher and i have been playing guitar and taking lessons for about 4 months and i think i am alright at guitar, i can play most of "one " including solos but there is two guitars so its kinda hard to say you can play it(i just play james's part and then kirk's part ) but i was womdering if thre are any metallica songs that sound pretty good to play in front of people? i was thinking seek and destroy) or maybe MoP.

question can apply to anytone who plays guitar.............................

this approach gives you a very restricted view of music in general, using a teacher will give you a much broader appreciation of musical styles/techniques. And that riff is meant to be down picked.

The "spider pattern riff" as he put it in MOP needs to be downpicked.

whats that? you mean the part that goes like

2 3
01 01 etc..................................

led_zep_luvr 01-17-2005 10:06 AM

i messed up

btoto 01-17-2005 10:07 AM

I can play:

KEA - All rhythm parts, solos - Mechanix (whole), Jump In The Fire (intro, second), No Remorse (second), Phantom Lord (whole), Metal Militia (too lazy to learn properly)

RTL - Fade To Black (whole song), FWTBT (whole song), rest of the album - no attempts

MOP - Battery (rhythm), MOP (whole song), Sanitarium (whole song except 3rd solo), rest - no attempts

AJFA - One (whole except middle harmony part and 3rd solo).

BLACK - Nothing Else Matters (whole song), Unforgiven (whole song), Sad But True and WIMR only rhythm parts.

Also: Mama Said (whole), Am I Evil (whole), Turn The Page (whole), Blitzkrieg (solo not attempted...........yet)
----------------------------

It was challenging for me to learn 'tallica solos when I just picked up guitar. But it's been almost 2 years that I play and it's got boring to learn other people's stuff. Now I enjoy writing my own solos or just improvising to 'tallica stuff.

I still want to learn these solos very good:

1. Metal Militia
2. One (3rd)
3. No Remorse (1st)
4. So What
5. Unforgiven II

That one. Most of the song is downpicked as well.

JACKROXYOU 01-17-2005 10:11 AM

wow i didnt know metallica had so many music videos

they got like 20 or so

btoto 01-17-2005 10:17 AM

Yes, the MOP spider riff is downpicked. If you alternate pick it, it will sound horrible.....well, at least it will sound wrong.

I learned to downpick that riff slowly in a few minutes but managed to play it fast after about a month.

Guys, you have to understand, it's not just about doing hard. At first I also thought that way. But then I'd just play something very good and the very next day I'd screw it up. Then I realised that it was about muscles. It takes time to develop muscles on your hands. You can learn something good but next you'll already feel tired playing that thing. Muscles and stamina are important for your picking hand. And it takes time for them to develop. The same with fretting hand - you need to develop "muscle memory" of your fingers. :thumb:

amen.
They're old stuff with Burton kicked major a-ss. Their latest albums just isn't their sound anymore. They sound like they are trying too hard.
Does anyone know if they still do older stuff on tour?

Listen to his basslines in Call of Ktulu. The man had some awesome effects. A Big Muff I think.

King Nothing
Hero Of The Day
