Ya, I love jack's bass lines.

jpj 10-22-2004 10:50 PM

What's weird is even if it was just a mediocre bassist I'd rather listen to it. For some reason guitar solos don't interest me.

I think it's because guitar solos have become such a standard part of most rock songs, that its hard to find the good ones. A lot of them become unoriginal and generic.

jpj 10-22-2004 10:55 PM

I'm watching a Wooten video now. It's so awesome. One day I hope to tap on a fretless such as he.

Ya I like them, but every song is too much if you ask me.

Seafroggys 10-22-2004 11:09 PM

Guitar solos are cool, but nothing beats bass licks and solos......or best of all drum solos (after all, that's my instrument)

Inna gadda daveda has alot of solos.

Do What You Like - Blind Faith has all four solos (Guitar, Bass, Keyboards, Drums.) Unfortunately Rick Grech cannont compare at all with Jack Bruce and his bass solo is definitely lacking.

lunch998 10-23-2004 08:06 AM
Ginger Baker's basses just sounded like toms period. They were dead and tuned high. Not my thing, but is cool and unique in its own right.

Did anybody notice that the bass drum changes sound after that double bass lick in White Room?

Also, the live version has a much longer outro. if you watch Cream's Finale Concert, it shows Clapton going on with the solo for like 3 minutes :D
When your bass drums are 11 inches deep, it is probably very easy for them to sound dead. I kind of like it because it was Ginger's style and it worked for him.

Heh, then everyone asks 'Wheres the solo?!'

DVG.

BludgeonySteve 10-23-2004 11:00 AM

A guitar solo doesn't make the song. It just adds to it. Every song should have some sort of guitar solo, no matter how good it already is.

MalcolmYoungRock 10-23-2004 11:10 AM

Sorry, even though this is a few pages ago, The Vh1 thing is awesome.

I'm listening to the Jam Rock thing.

It's so great.

Edit: Was that just bob dylan and the Grateful Dead I just heard?

Badmoon 10-23-2004 12:02 PM

I just learned all of "Casey Jones" on guitar.

jpj 10-23-2004 12:04 PM

That and Shakedown Street are the only Grateful Dead songs I like. And the Jam Rock Station on Vh1 is the greatest.

Badmoon 10-23-2004 12:07 PM

You haven't hear enough.

jpj 10-23-2004 12:10 PM

I've heard American Beauty, Working Man's Dead, Shakedown Street, and some of Europe '72.

Badmoon 10-23-2004 12:16 PM

I stick by my previous comment.

magicbus 10-23-2004 12:22 PM

Is the Jam Station really all that great?

jpj 10-23-2004 12:23 PM

Yes

magicbus 10-23-2004 12:34 PM

hmm...

jpj 10-23-2004 12:35 PM

Have you listened to it? If not go now. You won't be dissappointed.

Broken Arrow 10-23-2004 12:53 PM

So much drum talk.

How bout Bill ward underarted if you ask me (no pothead smilie)

jpj 10-23-2004 12:55 PM

Yea I was very lost in that conversation.
So much drum talk.

Yes. ward and Ian Paice most definitly. Also Clive Bunker.

Btw, earlier I was asking what this unknown Jethro Tull song was. Well, I just found out it was Bungle in the Jungle (typed in Jethro Tull in my P2P proggie, got the top unknown song on that list). Good times

jpj 10-23-2004 01:04 PM

I love that song, and yes Ward is a very under rated drummer.

Woodstock 10-23-2004 01:33 PM

I think I should try out that Jam station....

Seafroggys 10-23-2004 02:03 PM

Scratch that, it wasn't Bungle in the Jungle. I just listened to it, and it was another song that was played before the one song I'm trying to figure out. Good song nevertheless.

I remember one of the lines in like the chorus of this mystery song was "Hey Man, what's your plan?" or something along those lines.
