yea, i actually played it today, with a PRS McCarty. Not as nice as my tremonti, but it definitely sold me on the amp

I just watched the video for Are You Dead Yet. I don't see what relevance it has to the song, it's pretty gay really.

I havn't seen it yet. I'm in class. Care to share what happens in it? |
Erm.
Well. It's like country style, with police officers in it with the shierif hats and star badges n sh!t. It has half naked guys and gals and cars. I have no idea what it's supposed to be. |

It's stuff like that that makes me say CoB sold out.
|
Yah, except I don't think it'll appeal to anyone, it's just boring. I'd much rather see something like Trashed, Lost and Strungout where they just play, or a live video or something.
|
It's stuff like that that makes me say CoB sold out.
I second this.
Yah, except I don't think it'll appeal to anyone, it's just boring. I'd much rather see something like Trashed, Lost and Strungout where they just play, or a live video or something.
A cop+badguy+half naked chicks+cars will appeal to the kidiots that see it all over Fuse and MTV. |
Hardly selling out, that's the way they've always been. They're just screwing around and having a good time for god's sake. Metal needs more bands that play good music and don't take themselves too seriously.
|
Hardly selling out, that's the way they've always been. They're just screwing around and having a good time for god's sake. Metal needs more bands that play good music and don't take themselves too seriously.
But that's exactly what metal is against. Bodom is a punk band with metal music. |
Yah maybe. Check out the Bodom boards, they're completely ripping it apart.

Exactly. It seems that nowadays metal has to be all tough and serious 24/7. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_osgo4311mE&search=children%20of%20bodom Hahahaha |
Alexi's Finnish accent has never been more noticable in a song.
Has everyone seen his DR Strings ad? I didn't know a professional video could be allowed to be filmed with such acting. |
Yah maybe. Check out the Bodom boards, they're completely ripping it apart.
Doesn't surprise me. I'll watch it later and post my thoughts. It sounds like they are just trying to appeal to the stupid kiddies who watch Fuse and MTV. I don't think the music on AYDY sold out, but catering to kidiots like this...and starting to make music videos is getting there or at least very very very close to selling out. |
They've been making music videos since Something Wild.
But that's exactly what metal is against. Bodom is a punk band with metal music.
That makes no sense at all. |
They've been making music videos since Something Wild.
That makes no sense at all.
Yes, but all their previous videos were just playing the song. There wasn't some lame thing that will appeal to the kidiots. and: Yes I agree. Bodom is not a punk band. |
Some lame thing? Well over half of that video was shots of the band playing the song. I don't see any aspect of that video that consitutes "selling out" or "appealing to kidiots".
|
They have the attitude of a punk band but write metal music. I think attitude is very important in metal and the attitude they have now isn't very metal at all.
|
What's punk about their attitude? I don't seem them making political statements or telling people to get high.
The music they choose to write shows their attitude. The music is still obviously metal so I don't see what you're going on about. |
What's punk about their attitude? I don't seem them making political statements or telling people to get high..
They act like punks though. Just live drunk and slack.
I think attitude is very important in metal and the attitude they have now isn't very metal at all.
It's how we tell the men from the boys. |
They act like punks though. Just live drunk and slack.
No they don't. Do you have any idea how many metal bands have the "slack off and get drunk" attitude? I'll save you some time. Virtually all of them. |
No they don't. Do you have any idea how many metal bands have the "slack off and get drunk" attitude?
I'll save you some time. Virtually all of them.
Isn't that half the point of being in a band/rock star? |
No they don't. Do you have any idea how many metal bands have the "slack off and get drunk" attitude?
I'll save you some time. Virtually all of them.
Seems more like a rock and roll thing to slack off and get drunk, and they are punk becuase of the whole f you f everyone your nto the boss of me thing. |
Seems more like a rock and roll thing to slack off and get drunk, and they are punk becuase of the whole f you f everyone your nto the boss of me thing.
I never picked that up... |
Is that a joke?
|
No. I get the "fuck off, I don't give a fuck" in your face kind of attitude, but nothing remotely punkish.
|
Isn't that what the punks say?
|
I'm pretty sure a lot of people say that.
|
I'm pretty sure the punks say that too and are known for it.
|
It's very much a metal thing too.
Thrash especially. |
And where did thrash come from?
Yeah that's what I thought. Real metal is about escapism and fantasy. It's not supposed to be about real life its supposed to take you away to somewhere else. |
It sounds to me like you're narrowing "real metal" down to power metal only. There are plenty of "real metal" bands that don't fall into what you just described.
|
And where did thrash come from?
Yeah that's what I thought. Real metal is about escapism and fantasy. It's not supposed to be about real life its supposed to take you away to somewhere else.
Thrash didn't come directly from punk. Punk was an influence on Thrash, but not where it came from. |
How about black metal, that's all about non real concepts, same with most melodic death, heavy metal, regular death most of the time (like nile and behemoth, not cannibal corpse, who I think are very punkish in attitude), and almost all metal really.
|
Oh wow...
Black metal not about real concepts? What about religion and destruction? Death metal bands who focus on violence? Traditional metal bands who go political? Melodic death bands who center on emotion and relationships? All metal is based on real concepts. |
How about black metal, that's all about non real concepts, same with most melodic death... regular death
Must I disagree with those two. Please let me know where Arsis takes you, as well as Decapitated :) Other than those two genres (not very punk-ish, IMO) I do see your point. |

I think when you too much stock into the attitude you demean the music. Age of Silence and Winds both have very professional attitudes.
Melodic death bands who center on emotion and relationships?
November's Doom ftw |
