I like the drums in Rock and Roll, but I'm uneducated drum-wise.
I like them too and I'm not uneducated.

RockAndRoll 10-22-2004 10:34 PM
A great Bonham drumming song is I Can't Quit You Babe, the soundcheck at Royal Albert Hall version. It's got the classic Bonham bass drum amazing speed, and at the end you get his cool little "Rock and Roll" ending.
I really need to watch the dvd again.

lunch998 10-22-2004 10:34 PM

Rockandroll, do you own the newer Zeppelin Dvd? If you do my favorite drumming parts on it (aside from Moby Dick) come from the radio promotion show in black in white, it's one of the extras. Bonham is playing a 4-piece but he still manages to get his awesome sound and power. (The part in Dazed and Confused we were just talking about is especially cool there.)

jpj 10-22-2004 10:35 PM

Man, if only I would have stayed with drums I'd have something to say in this conversation.

I do own it indeed. I love those black and white ones in general, they're well done visually and musically.

You gave up drums for bass? Tsk Tsk. Anyways I gave you my favorite bass part (Tales of Brave Ulysses fade-out) and you didn't respond. I tried to include you.

jpj 10-22-2004 10:37 PM

I've never heard the song :upset:

lunch998 10-22-2004 10:38 PM
I've never heard the song :upset:
It's a must hear. Now. Go buy Disraeli Gears if you have to.

Haha, at least we're not talk about how I started doing some drumline moves while doing my hand and foot polyrhythms.

I am shocked.

Yea thats just unfair.

lunch998 10-22-2004 10:40 PM

Thats another thing I love about Bonzo. The Bass-Floor-Mid tom triplets. Those things are cool once you get them going.

Don't worry the site has saved the day.

I hate how no one (our age anyways) but drummers have any idea what you're talking about when you start talking about stuff like polyrhythms. They all just give you a blank stare as you try to explain to them what you're working on.

Yes! The bass part actually gets louder at about 2:20.

jpj 10-22-2004 10:42 PM

Hey now! I only played drums for a year gimme a break.

Also Ulysses>Achilles

Seafroggys 10-22-2004 10:43 PM

Ginger Baker's basses just sounded like toms period. They were dead and tuned high. Not my thing, but is cool and unique in its own right.

Did anybody notice that the bass drum changes sound after that double bass lick in White Room?

Also, the live version has a much longer outro. if you watch Cream's Finale Concert, it shows Clapton going on with the solo for like 3 minutes :D

Yea but I guess guitarists, or anything other musician, could talk about certain technical stuff that we wouldn't understand.

I am such a fan of his quick triplet fills, ever since I learned them they've been a favourite of mine.

Ya, I'm pretty knowledgable about music theory though. I just wish i had someone to explain stuff to when something cool comes along.

I have the version on the Strange Brew Dvd wear Clapton solos are much longer on every song. Jack Bruce looks like he is playing the lead guitar solo sometimes because he is all over the neck.

Yea the work well in fills, and other times I just like to start them slow and speed up and keep them going for awhile. It's just fun.

Crossroads live on wheels of fire is awesome.

People should be able to figure out polyrythms though. Poly=many.

jpj 10-22-2004 10:46 PM

I'd rather listen to Bruce doing the bass line during a solo, then listening to the actual solo. But that's just me.

One of the best guitar solos ever.

ya, but they don't usually. meh.

Seeing clapton live was amazing, what a musician, and what musicians he was with.

Because his Bass lines could be the lead instrument at any given time, he's so good.
