Best part of Face of Melinda is from where Distortion starts to the end imo.
That part is rather awesome, but I just think it takes way too long to get to that part. Face of Melinda is the only song on that album that I skip. |
opeth inspired my entire musical career...favorite song is either a fair judgement or white cluster

When I really feel like listening to the album, I don't skip a song. Just me though :p Unless something liek not having time or something....then obvuioulsy I won't listen to the whole thing. NP Opeth - Serenity Painted Death |

A Fair Judgement's solos = sex.
When I really feel like listening to the album, I don't skip a song. Just me though :p NP Opeth - Serenity Painted Death
I usually don't listen to that album all of the way through, for some unknown reason. I think I might go back and do that soon. Damn, quoted before ninja edit.
:p |
A Fair Judgement's solos = sex.
I really like A Fair Judgement. It seems that most people in here dislike it, but I think it's a great song especially for Deliverance. It fits well and balances out the album IMO. |
I don't have AIM, give me your Email and I'll send you something.
Agalloch >> Opeth any time
wooohooo, i'm really excited ive been dying to hear a band that can match opeth. Email = tomvanderlist@hotmail.com thanks alot, much appreciated EDIT: just bought "Pale Folklore"
I really like A Fair Judgement.
Yeah, pretty true...although he was never really fat.
I hope they make another DVD because I'd love to hear them play older songs, especially stuff off of Still Life and Morningrise.
Yeah I posted before they're making a special Edition of GR, with extra stuff and a cover, but indeed another DVD with similar quality as Lamentations would be kick-ass. I don't know about how good Roadrunner Records is at the DVD production and so... |
Okies, I picked up Ghost Reveries yesterday (even cheaper than I said - 4 quid!) and I am immediately loving 'The Baying Of The Hounds' - great track.
Takes a few listens really for me to really get into anything new by bands like Opeth because nothing strikes me straight-away. After 3/4 listens, the subtlties really stick out :D. |
Agalloch is pretty damn awesome but I don't think they can really touch Opeth.
I'm not saying reviews are anything to go by, but on Metal Archives, Pale Folklore has 10 reviews and the average is 99% :). But soon enough when Agalloch becomes more popular, the metal elitists will jump on and give it ratings of 5% and that average will be lowered. These are the same elitists who have rated Blackwater Park 5% and 3%. |
I've gotten kinda bored of Opeth. I'm not sure why. I don't want to be either.
I still love Blackwater Park & Damnation. Bleak & Harvest are amazing |

I still love Blackwater Park & Damnation. Bleak & Harvest are amazing
It might be good either to watch Lamentations to rekindle that Opeth fire, or just take a break :) Some of my friends and family have commented on how seldomly (or less often than other people) I listen to my favourite bands. It's mainly because I'm always discovering new bands, and I like too many genres of music. So it's not always bad to take a break from the bands you already like. |

I might get out Lamentations tomorrow night. :thumb: |
I must say, hearing White Cluster played live was one of the best parts of seeing Opeth live. While I'd rather have heard Godhead's Lament, White Cluster was still awesome.
Oh for sure.White Cluster ****ing owns live.It has become one of my favourite Opeth songs after seeing it live. |
Oh for sure.White Cluster ****ing owns live.It has become one of my favourite Opeth songs after seeing it live.
Definitely. They played it both times I've seen them, and both performances were outstanding, especially the leads. Each time everyone freaked out at around the 6 minute mark, when the heavy riff comes in. It became one of my favorite Opeth songs after seeing it live as well. |
Out of all of the songs I'd like to see them play live, The Moor would be my top choice. I bet most of the fans would go ****ing bananas if they played Face of Melinda, though.
They played FOM when I saw them. :) |
I have seen opeth live twice and both times were amazing. Hopefully I will get to see them again someday soon.

I envy you. :upset: |
I'm glad they didn't play it at mine...

What do you think of my new one? |
what does everyone think of ghost reveries?, i havent got it yet and i was wondering how everyone felt about it
People will disagree, but it is nowhere near the quality of Blackwater Park or Still Life. It really isn't. Not memorable at all. Tolerable, and some good moments, but that is it. |
I just heard Blackwater Park album, it is awesome. My favorite song from Opeth is Deliverance, the drummer of the band in which I play is trying to play it, have anyone of you guys try it?

I don't drum, but if he can pull off the end beat then he is pretty good. That beat sounds pretty challenging to me. |
He gets a little confused when it gets to the acoustic part and the end can't play it, he is tired at that moment, but he have just practice it for 2 weeks.

The drummer in my band can play it. It's pretty awesome, we just bust into every once in a while. During a silence in the practice, either I or my co-guitarist will start playing the lead line of the heavy outro section, and everyone else just joins in. |
That outro owns.

Dude that must be so awesome. I'm the only Opeth fan in my band so I'm the only one that knows how to play their stuff. :( |

Yeah, that is one of the funnest things to play. It sounds so heavy, and so rhythmic and cool. Our drummer is pretty damn good, I mean, he's not even really an Opeth fan, but one time I started playing that Deliverance riff out of nowhere and he just joined in, playing the part perfectly. It was really exciting. |

That's awesome man!!!:thumb: Hope to be playing it with all the band least at the end of the next month. So sorry for you Thor, in my case me and the other guitarrist were the last to get into Opeth. |

That's pretty sweet, dude. There's nothing more exciting then hearing someone play one of your favorite riffs. Like when I first heard my band's guitarist bust out the intro to Bodom's "Towards Dead End" I just got shivers up my spine. It's so cool. |

so what album do you think its most similar to? |
what does everyone think of ghost reveries?, i havent got it yet and i was wondering how everyone felt about it
It's one of their more weaker albums, but it's a good new direction for the band. It's heavier and more prog-heavy, so if you're into that, check it out. It's still an excellent record, but it's one of the Opeth albums that I listen to the least.
so what album do you think its most similar to?
It's similar to Deliverance and Blackwater Park I guess, but it's not all that similar. It's not nearly as good as those two, either. |

I think it's very memorable. Definately not a definative album but it's really good to my ears. Plus, the production is great. |

Yeah that's true. It happened to me one day that I start playing the intro of Black Diamond - Stratovarius and then the other guitarrist joined in along with the drummer I was so happy but we imrpovised the solos:p , only the bass palyer stayed appart.:( But it was pretty cool. |
I wish I could find a friggin band!

Ghost Reveries gets a lot of hate, and I don't like it as much as the other albums either, but it's still good. Ghost of Perdition and Baying of the Hounds are also two of Opeth's best songs ever. It's just that it isn't the guitar playing that really makes it memorable, it's just the overall songwriting. The album has a lot more uninteresting riffs and focus on vocals instead...not to mention the keyboards sort of dominated the soft sections which is annoying.
However I've started to like it a lot more lately. |

However I've started to like it a lot more lately.
It's a hit and miss album for me. Half of the songs I love (Ghost of Perdition, Baying of the Hounds, Beneath the Mire, and Grand Conjuration), but the rest don't really stick out all that much and are skippable. The ones that I like are incredibly awesome though. I really like how they got even heavier with their riffage on Reveries, though. |
I find that the guitar riffs are generally quite boring on GR. I really like the addition of the keyboards and love the two ballads: Hours Of Wealth And Isolation Years, the latter of which I think is an absoulte gem. My main problem with the album is that I think the songs get boring which doesn't happen for me on any other Opeth album. Usually, the length of the songs don't hinder the band in any way, but on GR, the songs really do drag on and on a lot of tracks, they could have done with being a minute or two shorter. I find myself liking a lot of seperate sections in songs, but as whole pieces, the songs don't come together too well.
