Yeah.

I'm really not a fan of single coils anymore. That 60-cycle hum just gets on my nerves.
Yeah, I hate it in basically any situation.

fatbandit 03-19-2010 07:16 PM

My bass sounds better in single coil, but it is noisier. I use it single coil live, but not in the studio.

I might need to start writing lyrics soon D:

gaslight 03-19-2010 07:26 PM

Gonna sing them too?

fatbandit 03-19-2010 07:44 PM

Maybes :/

burtonbassist_102 03-19-2010 07:59 PM

I hate how when people come into a music shop, they automatically think they're entitled to act like complete assholes.

gaslight 03-19-2010 08:00 PM

Okay, I'll bite.

What happened?

funkyhoney 03-19-2010 08:01 PM

Replace music shop with bottle shop and you have my life.

I'm guessing people were being obnoxious on drums and/or guitars?

burtonbassist_102 03-19-2010 08:12 PM

No, this dude came in and was interested in buying this squier strat, and was inquiring if we would give him a deal.

This doesn't necessarily bother me, as its to be expected. So I said "Yeah, we can work with you on it." Then he asked if they came with gig bags, to which I said "No, but we do have gig bags here and if you wanted to purchase both, I can give you a discount."

I work in a small, local music store, and we try to keep things competitively priced, but we can only go so low on things and still, you know, make money.

Then he starts bitching and complaining about how he saw it online or at some other store and they INCLUDED a gig bag. This guy's starting to get on my nerves. But I kept my cool, as I didn't want to lose out on the sale, so I went back to look for the warranty paperwork for it.

Whenever we recieve a shipment of guitars, we take the respective warranty papers/manuals/etc and label it appropriately and place it in a folder. When I went to look in said folder, it wasn't there, so they must not have come with the guitar in the first place.

So I told him that, and also pointed out that most retailers will have online registration for their products, and I know that Fender is no different, and you just have to enter the serial number and stuff and you'll be covered.

Then he got all pissed at ME and told me that if the papers aren't there when he comes back tomorrow, he'll just go online and get it somewhere else.

It took me all my will power not to just punch him in the ****ing face.

burtonbassist_102 03-19-2010 08:14 PM

You don't really see that kind of bargaining attitude anywhere else. I've never heard about anyone going into Best Buy, look at a TV and say "You have that listed at $1000? I'll give you $400 for it."

I love working in a music shop, but every once in a while I just feel like killing someone.

I feel you man, you don't go in a supermarket and say that ****. So people think because we sell liquor it's all a big barter system. Doesn't work like that, chump.

The other thing that gives me the shits, I dare say you'd get something similar is the people who come in and say "how much is [item]?" especially when it's either something bizarre and obscure you don't carry or something easily visible with a price attached.

Then they make a purchase and just stand around expecting you to get it for them. This isn't a drive through KFC buddy, if you can't carry your **** don't expect me to do it. Unless they're like, disabled.

Best one recently was we had two cartons of beer for $56, but they were $30 if you got one. So by buying two you made a value buy, sounds simple right? Had a guy in for about 10 minutes arguing with me and my manager how he wanted one for 28 because we only had one left. Wouldn't wait until the next day when more stock came in. Just get repeating that "it was advertised in the paper" and that means he should get the price he dictates I guess.

I just kept repeating 'while stocks last' until he realised I wouldn't budge and bought it anyway. It's TWO ****ING DOLLARS. Said he was going to complain to Woolworths and all the other **** people say every day. They'll say the exact same thing I do, deal with it.

Like refusing service, "I'll complain to you manager!" Good, I usually say, they'll actually ban you instead of just kicking you out because my manager is a bitter person.

gaslight 03-19-2010 08:25 PM

I wouldn't want to work in the music retail business. Too many morons to deal with. The work wouldn't be very difficult though I guess.

Depending on where you are in the world, haggling is either a part of culture or it isn't. Some places, it's expected that every purchase will be negotiated, other places it is considered tantamount to an insult.

When I go into a music shop I expect they'll do a "deal" even without being asked, because all they are really doing is shaving off a little bit of their epic mark-up, I don't remember the last time I've paid sticker price on any significant purchase.

Joining in on fun stories, I once had someone at a supermarket ask for a discount on some chicken that had a best before date in like, 5 days from purchase. It was Wednesday and it was like well, it's still comfortably in date so we can't give you a discount. Then they were like, but, I'm only planning on eating it on Monday. ...what

burtonbassist_102 03-19-2010 08:26 PM
Fender does not issue warranty cards nor register consumer warranties with the sale of any FMIC brand product. An "Owner's Registration" card does accompany many FMIC products but this is a U.S.-only promotion. The registration, however, is simply a demographic marketing research survey; it is not a "warranty" registration.

Your original sales receipt is your verification of proof and date of purchase for validation of warranty claims. Please retain your sales receipt for the term length of the warranty of the product. In the event that you have a claim for warranty service, this receipt must be presented at the time of service for appropriate consideration.

In the event that you may require warranty service, return to the Authorised Fender Dealer from whom you purchased your product.
**** yes. I can't wait to tell this to that guy tomorrow.

It's a little different up here in AK, where if we charged "internet" pricing with shipping, many times its more than retail.

Epidemechanical 03-19-2010 08:34 PM

I agree, large purchases, musical instruments, white goods, cars, etc. Even AV equipment can be haggled. But everyday purchases, i.e. food, drink, beer, whatever is a set price.

I work at BWS (I think you have them in Sydney now) it's woolworths convenience outlet, I **** you not there is over 400 in the bottom half of Queensland. So there's one on every corner. Now, Dan Murpheys is the Woolies liquor barn, hence they order so much more stock it's always cheaper and they'll match prices because they buy so cheap.

Everything we sell is about 20% or more, more expensive than there. I'm sick of the "why won't you match it?" "why is it cheaper there?" "I saw it cheaper there" "They have it for 30" "Why's it so expensive here?" "But I want to buy a lot of things, can't I get discount?"

BECAUSE IF IT WAS THE SAME PRICE OR IF WE MATCHED PRICES IT WOULD MAKE HAVING LARGE LIQUOR STORES FOR BULK PURCHASES REDUNDANT. We're on every corner so you can just walk in and PAY FOR THE CONVENIENCE. Like 7/11 you tools. You don't go there to do your grocery shopping unless you're a psychotic. Not to mention it'd completely run the small stores into the ground because you'd never be able to have the shop fully stocked.

And lol @ chicken moron. COME BACK AND BUY IT THEN ****HEAD.

I don't actually doubt that I know a lot more theory and whatever but it doesn't heaps matter, you would know a lot more about production than me and that's where more of your interest lies.

Wankerface 03-20-2010 12:27 AM

What on earth is a Torontonio Banderas?
