I just got Killers today and listened to the whole thing. It's awesome; I had no idea the basslines were so insane and complex for that album. I have to learn them all now, even though the galloping triplets in songs like "Genghis Khan" will just end up destroying my fingers :(

On flatwounds yes. On roundwounds it shouldn't be a problem.

I have roundwounds that haven't been changed in a long time and sound like flatwounds (which is what I want anyway). Besides, any type of playing kinda hurts my fingers for a while because I have more blisters which need to be ground into calluses.

All Maiden hurts my fingers but it sounds so good :(
On flatwounds yes. On roundwounds it shouldn't be a problem.
It was the opposite for me. Roundwounds tore my fingers apart (just my fretting hand actually) but flatwounds were fine on both of my hands

adioviva 09-04-2005 12:03 AM

Is it true Iron Maiden's original bassist was Chuck Norris?

YDload 09-04-2005 12:08 AM

Ignore the post above me people (troll watch).

adioviva 09-04-2005 12:10 AM

Ok, I'm sorry if I don't understand dungeons and dragon talk, but please, stop this troll nonsense. for i will cause bleeding in holes you never knew existed if it continues.... but only as a last resort

Cut my life into pieces
I've reached my last resort, suffocation, no breathing
Don't give a **** if I cut my arms bleeding
Would it be wrong, would it be right
If I took my life tonight, chance are that I might
Mutilation out of sight and I'm contemplating suicide
Cause I'm losing my sight, losing my mind
Wish somebody would tell me I'm fine
Nothing's alright, nothing is fine
I'm running and I'm crying
I never realized I was spread too thin
Till it was too late and I was empty within
Hungry, feeding on chaos and living in sin
Downward spiral, where do I begin
It all started when I lost my mother
No love for myself and no love for another
Searching to find a love upon a higher level
Finding nothing but questions and devils
Cause I'm losing my sight, losing my mind
Wish somebody would tell me I'm fine
Nothing's alright, nothing is fine
I'm running and I'm crying
I can't go on living this way

Yeah, it's not one of my favourite albums for nothing, the songs on there are so fantastic, Purgatory, another life, killers, murders, drifter, twilight zone... all brilliant tracks

SSOASS and BNW have to be my favourite albums.

blockheads dead 09-04-2005 11:25 PM

Why do you guys think it is that Maiden is only really popular in the U.K.? A lot of other bands from there are just as/more popular in the US like Zeppelin, Sabbath, Cream etc.

YDload 09-04-2005 11:27 PM

Because Maiden tours in the UK more and gets more airplay there too. I mean, you hear Judas Priest songs on the radio all the time here in the US, but when was the last time you heard a Maiden song? Actually, I did not too long ago, but that was a fluke coinciding with their Ozzfest appearance in the area.

I don't think I've ever heard a Maiden song on the radio. I actually started listening to them because someone on mx (I'm pretty sure it was you) said something about Hallowed Be Thy Name being really good and I downloaded it and liked it and then downloaded some more stuff. Then I bought The Number of the Beast. I'll probably buy Powerslave when I get some more money because I've heard a lot of people say it's the best one.

My dad keeps saying that Iron Maiden are a hair metal band and "jackasses." Hes told me about five times that "my taste keeps getting worse and worse. He seems to think they're the same kind of band as Poison, Ratt etc.

Just try to explain to him...

what would he rather you listen to?
Pantera or someone pathetic like that?

Maiden don't get a huge amount of airplay here in the UK, first time i knowingly listened to them was when they re-released RTTH, and i happened to be watching Top of the Pops when it was on. on Kerrang you generally see NOTB, RTTH and can i play with madness, not much else, but scuzz have Live at Donington versions of FOTD and HBTN, which are pretty cool, but they dont put them on very often.

My dad keeps saying that Iron Maiden are a hair metal band
But Bruce doesn't have much hair at the moment!

the_uber_penguin 09-05-2005 06:27 AM

I call Iron Maiden a hair metal band, especially when I'm trying to introduce new people to them (normally before that the heaviest thing they've listened to is The Darkness, so they have a rough idea what to expect) and it works. A lot of people I know think Iron Maiden sound a lot like Wheatus, because of the name check Wheatus gave them.

Did you know on Wheatus' second single, Bruce played guitar?

Lord Abortion 09-05-2005 06:34 AM

Wheatus?

I remember reading an interview with Steve and they asked about the namecheck and he said he'd never heard of it...

the_uber_penguin 09-05-2005 06:41 AM

Ahem...
"I think we've always maintained our crefibility among our fanbase but, yeah, the Wheatus thing was just weird" laughs Steve
