Man, I can't stand Jay-Z. But I'm a Tech N9ne fanboy, so what do I know?

gaslight 04-09-2011 12:05 PM

Is Jay-Z a wrestler?

fatbandit 04-09-2011 12:15 PM

Never listened to Tech N9ne, but heard some good feedback about the music. One day I'll get round to it.

As long as it's better than Wiz Khalifa, I'll be happy. Though I do like one Wiz Khalifa track. Mostly because it samples Chrono Trigger for its main beat ^_^

fatbandit 04-09-2011 12:16 PM

And Jay-Z has an awesome flow, I'm pretty into him.

gaslight 04-09-2011 12:21 PM

So he's not a wrestler?

Any of these are good Tech tracks to check out:

"Low"

"Show Me A God"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=900ScDcIHvE

"Welcome To The Midwest"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zLnA3wXReY

"Imma Tell"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2FR2HpUpz4

"Devil Boy"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tn08XVpIMiY

"The Rain"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Md9a2txtZI

"Melancholy Maze (intro skit)" + "Welcome To My World"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KFZZw4ag88
This last one is kinda shitty quality, but I wanted to show you one with his sick intro as well.

gaslight 04-09-2011 12:58 PM

Different kinda vibe to his voice than usual, very relaxed.

I have trouble accepting a 9 as a replacement for an "i" though :p.

Me too - it's so weird. I mean, I think it looks cool when written, but I just don't understand how it's even a substitution.

damn

that is slick

fatbandit 04-09-2011 01:54 PM

inorite.

I'm surprised I like anything by Wiz. I'm surprised that the concept of a video game beat hasn't produced something horrible (the amount of FF7 rap remixes I've heard... oh dear) for once.
Is it normal to keep a list of who comes in in what order over there?
I just keep track of how many people come in to make sure the money is right at the end of the night. For something like last night, just ask the right person their name. In the case of last night, I knew the person so I didn't need to ask.

FunkMetalBass 04-10-2011 10:10 AM

Damn, what's up with the sh**ty money market and high-yield savings rates these days?

gaslight 04-10-2011 10:21 AM

America's fault.

FunkMetalBass 04-10-2011 02:40 PM

What should my next pedal build be?

Small Stone Phaser clone or one of these tube dirt pedals modified for bass:

gaslight 04-10-2011 08:10 PM

If you want a real challenge you should build a multi-tap tape delay.

FunkMetalBass 04-10-2011 10:35 PM

I'm not looking for something seriously challenging; just projects that sound fun and will produce a pedal I'm interested in trying.

gaslight 04-10-2011 11:55 PM

Do that anyway it'd be awesome.

FunkMetalBass 04-11-2011 09:30 PM

Can't find a tape delay schematic. I did find one for a sweet, simple ring modulator, so I'll probably give that one a try too. It's compact enough to probably fit in an MXR-sized enclosure.

gaslight 04-11-2011 10:03 PM

A multi-tap tape delay would be bloody huge I think .

Picturing several VCRs taped together.

FunkMetalBass 04-11-2011 10:47 PM

So, for the past week, I've been composing my first tapping piece on my 8-string. It's incredibly frustrating and exciting at the same time.

gaslight 04-11-2011 11:23 PM

One finger per string?

FunkMetalBass 04-12-2011 12:21 AM
One finger per string?
Ish? I don't tap with my right pinky, but I don't generally tap my F# string either.

gaslight 04-12-2011 08:21 AM

Post when finished.

FunkMetalBass 04-12-2011 07:09 PM

Shit, now the pressure is on to make it good.

Today I decided that I hate Australia because the Sick Puppies are, barre none, the best band on the mainstream rock radio station.

Why is that reason to hate Australia? He doesn't even sound Australian any more. And the drummer's a yank. And the chick's half Asian. A babe though.

I do like their older stuff much better than their latest album. Did have a few good tracks though.

FunkMetalBass 04-13-2011 08:01 AM

It's not really hate, just envy. And even if the singer has a less Australian voice and they're never stuff is sh*t by comparison, my point still stands.

Yes, she is a babe, and she plays a Warwick.

gaslight 04-13-2011 08:32 AM

I never knew Sick Puppies were Australian or that they were a thing at all.

I do quite like a bit of Sick Puppies.

funkyhoney 04-13-2011 09:46 AM

And I apologise for how atrocious the CC video clip is. Only one I could find that doesn't claim some kind of copyright shit. Damn that youtube.

FunkMetalBass 04-13-2011 09:58 AM

They pull off the three-piece thing so well. My dad always gives me shit for preferring to play in three-piece bands, but I like the sonic space it opens up.

gaslight 04-13-2011 10:25 AM

Three piece bands are fun.

It has drawbacks of course but everything has positives and negatives.

FunkMetalBass 04-13-2011 10:42 AM

It's true. The hardest part, in my opinion, is filling in for the rhythm guitar when the guitarist wants to solo. If I can find a decent octave pedal with a separate output for the octave, I could reasonably match the guitar tone and send it all back through my cab.

EDIT: Hey look, the MicroPog does that too. Even more of a reason to get it.

fatbandit 04-13-2011 11:26 AM

Just don't have solos. They're so 1986.

fatbandit 04-13-2011 11:27 AM

Also, I always thinkt hat adding an octave up on bass sounds really synthetic. I think I'd be happier playing everything an octave higher, and using an octave down pedal instead.

FunkMetalBass 04-13-2011 12:48 PM
Also, I always thinkt hat adding an octave up on bass sounds really synthetic. I think I'd be happier playing everything an octave higher, and using an octave down pedal instead.
That's always an option too. And it opens up the option of an MXR M288, which is about half the price of the Micro Pog, except that it doesn't have dedicated wet and dry outs.

fatbandit 04-13-2011 02:28 PM

Make a passive splitter box. If you're thinking of building a distortion box, that kind of thing should be easy enough?
Make a passive splitter box. If you're thinking of building a distortion box, that kind of thing should be easy enough?
I've been trying to piece together how it would work. The best idea I've come up with is to simply use two small 2-channel mixers to split, run the effects parallel, and recombine them. I might be able to do it with a passive mixer, but I believe the impedance mismatch post-FX will require something active.
