Little Man being Erased 11-23-2006 12:38 AM
quiet old man
pesky kids, get off my lawn

Robert Crumb 11-23-2006 12:53 AM

Back in my day, it was fourteen miles back and forth, each thread. And we didn't have no confangled hi-speed Internets to take us there. No, we had our modems, and if we didn't like 'em, well, tough titties!

Why, I remember back in '00, after the great dotcom crash, I tried to download Eminem's first album off Napster. That's the original Napster. Used to be free. Ain't free any more. So where was I? Oh. That's right. Eminem. See, he used to be good back in my day. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time...

Eliminator 11-23-2006 12:55 AM

Onions?

Back in my there day, we called them Fallafalwagonwheels, or for short, Charlies.

dei 11-23-2006 01:05 AM

9 days until 19.

ATM 11-23-2006 01:50 AM

I'm an old man :-D

Kayetan 11-23-2006 02:07 AM

Yesterday (nov. 22) was my half birthday.

Robert Crumb 11-23-2006 02:15 AM

When was the other half born?

Kayetan 11-23-2006 02:18 AM

Give me five bees for a quarter.

pulseczar 11-23-2006 02:18 AM

give me five bees for a quarter you'd say

Zappa 11-23-2006 02:55 AM

I'm 19. And I can't drive.

Kayetan 11-23-2006 02:56 AM

Does that ever upset you, or do you simply have no desire?

Zappa 11-23-2006 02:57 AM

Don't bother me none. Did you get a name change, or did you just start posting in A&I?

Kayetan 11-23-2006 03:01 AM

I was G&L RF, but I can't really recall how often I posted here before.

Zappa 11-23-2006 03:05 AM

I saw you in Other and Jazz more often.

Kayetan 11-23-2006 03:10 AM

Yeah, that sounds right maybe.

Anyway, I was just thinking of this, would you ever buy an album based on the cover alone?

Zmev 11-23-2006 03:49 AM

yeah if its like 5 bucks.

Glitterati 11-23-2006 04:35 AM

its twenty past 1 and im not getting to sleep anytime soon.

i think i might have to drag out some nick cave and make this an all nighter.

Zmev 11-23-2006 06:24 AM
representin' the old folks
*crazy hermits

AlienEater 11-23-2006 11:46 AM
Yeah, that sounds right maybe.

Anyway, I was just thinking of this, would you ever buy an album based on the cover alone?
yes if it's cheap

Neoteric 11-23-2006 12:01 PM
Yeah, that sounds right maybe.

Anyway, I was just thinking of this, would you ever buy an album based on the cover alone?
My friend goes to independent music shops and buys cheap vinyl just for the cool covers.

He's got into a lot of underground bands that way.

Iai 11-23-2006 12:14 PM

I'd be more likely to splurge my cash based on a title to be honest.

Neoteric 11-23-2006 12:24 PM
I'd be more likely to splurge my cash based on a title to be honest.
If something looks unappealing then it probably wouldn't sell though and I couldn't think a title could make a difference.

Iai 11-23-2006 12:42 PM

The title would definitely make more difference for me.

pulseczar 11-23-2006 12:50 PM

Probably the title for me too since a lot of my favourite albums have bad album covers.

Robert Crumb 11-23-2006 04:27 PM

I do this at the big used records store in town. They have shelves and shelves of dollar- records/45's etc. Usually, I have a cache of albums in mind when I go shopping. But a pretty cover can sway me, especially if it's cheap. I don't have a record player anymore, though. So I don't do it as much.

AndreTheHyena 11-23-2006 04:30 PM

I got into Mastodon simply because of their album art.

AlienEater 11-23-2006 04:32 PM

The title does sometimes make me buy an album as well

AndreTheHyena 11-23-2006 04:33 PM

I got into Deerhoof and This Bike is a Pipe Bomb simply from their name.

Kayetan 11-24-2006 06:09 PM

I'll do that for you maybe in a couple hours.

YDload 11-24-2006 07:22 PM

i wish the "mirror-image songs" thread was still around cause i want to post this:

Embrace- No More Pain
Husker Du- 59 Times the Pain

hooray for semi-emo songs

Kage 11-24-2006 08:58 PM

Can someone here upload or AIM transfer Jesus Lizard's Goat?

Zappa 11-24-2006 10:06 PM

An "experimental band?" Is that like a group of scientists starting "chemical mixing or some shit!"?

An "experiment" must have a certain goal in mind. Otherwise it's just dicking around.

YDload 11-25-2006 01:15 AM

Hey nacho i think i was wrong about that cocteau twins bassline. i think it's actually two frets higher than i said (so the 9th fret on the D string instead of the 7th, or B instead of A if you know notes)

so that means you were actually right when you said it was the B on the A string, just one octave higher.

Kayetan 11-25-2006 11:47 AM

Ok, in case you don't have it already, it's like this.
0:03
E-E-A-A x2
0:13
A-E-D-D x4
0:51
A-E-B-D x1
1:00
E-A-E-A x2
1:20
A-E-D-D x3
1:48
A-E-B-D x1
1:57
E-A-E-A x4
2:34
F#-F#-E-E-D-C#-B-A x4
2:52
E-A-E-A x2

It's all root notes with some interchange between octaves. yeah, so I hope this helps.

Zappa 11-25-2006 12:54 PM
The goal is good, interesting music. But there'll be lots of "dicking around" as well I'm sure. I prefer to desribe it as "having fun", however.
Eh, fair enough. That's a marked change in tone, though. You acted like this guy you found was a gift from god, and like the music you were going to make would be similarly rad and totally far out. It just rubbed me the wrong way, the concept of setting out to be an "experimental band."

Happymeal 11-25-2006 04:18 PM

So I think I have diarrhea right now. Maybe Chinese food + peanuts + 4 oranges isn't exactly a winning combination.

yay Pepto-Bismol

Glitterati 11-25-2006 08:40 PM

i just looked outside and its snowing.

sweboy 11-25-2006 09:46 PM

We haven't got any snow here in Sweden yet. Gg, global warming.

Anyway, it's here, nintendo reggae: http://www.allears.se/MyPage.aspx?name=Mikelangelo&song=edbbf3bc-30f6-4e62-ba78-af9fd9d8c882

Kayetan 11-26-2006 01:30 AM

It was pretty warm today. I'm kind of anxious for winter to get started.

AndreTheHyena 11-26-2006 01:50 AM

Me too. I like wearing heavy jackets and snuggling with my girl while walking down snowy streets, thus recreating the cover art for The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan.
