CD's are going to be out of date pretty soon. mp3's are replacing them. Which is sad. I would love it if we went back to vinyl and tapes, personally. But I guess that isn't possible.
|
Yeah its a shame that cds wil go out. Instead of downloading a whole album you can just download one or two songs. This could be the absolute death of the concept album. Other than that I'm all for Mp3's replacing them.
|
I've been worried about cd's going out of date since I just started buying a lot of them.
|
Don't worry. CDs will be around for as long as underground bands not supported by iTunes, etc, will keep recording.
|
I think that Mp3's might help underground bands and be more common with them. The internet has become the best source for mass communication since TV. Altough there are no requirements to get onto the internet so I think we may see underground bands finding more sucess on the internet than in clubs or putting out demo cds if Mp3's become more popular.
Though if I ever relase a mainstream album I plan on putting it onto cd, Mp3, and vinyl, just for class. |
But it's different when you can simply net them for free. Plus, whatever happened to owning the artwork and lyrics, for the sake of owning them?
|
Yeah Riva thats very true. Something I didn't think about is what will happen to album cover art work with the evolution of Mp3 music. The art work on some Pink Floyd albums are one of the things that keeps me buying (or kept as my collection is complete) Pink Floyd's albums rather than just burning them.

WINRAR all you need is a 35 cent jewel cases and a computer that can print nice. |
I agree with Riva. A printed out version just isn't the same. It may seem stupid to pay so much money just for the CD booklet, but I enjoy owning the real thing.

I feel that way with some stuff. If it's a band I genuinely like I will by their real CD's (Hendrix Zeppelin Metallica ETC) but a bunch of stuff I listen to isn't worth 15 to 18 bucks. But yea I see your point |

Same here. I'm working on owning actual copies of all my albums. I love the liner notes and cover. And I find that I actually enjoy listening to albums that I own on cd more than albums I only own on mp3. It's a wierd psychological thing. Like I'll enjoy an album on mp3, but when I buy an actual copy of it, I enjoy it more. Wierd. |

That's definatly more rewarding I would buy CD's if they were just like6 to 10 bucks but over here the cheapest you find them are at walmart and they are 15$ |

You need to find yourself a used cd store, I haven't bought an album for over 10 bucks in almost a year. Regarding the cd vs. mp3 issue, I plan on still buying cds for quite a while. I don't like those iPods much, they take away from albums as a whole. I look at an album like a book, you wouldn't just take your favorite chapters from a bunch of different books and throw them all together. |

I did get all my Deftones CD's for about 8 bucks each |
I taped over WYWH a few days ago from my cd-r copy so I can listen to it while at school. Listening to SOYCD pt. 2 while riding (to school) a bike is fun.
And word to buying cd's second hand (same goes for vinyl and even tapes, which I buy really cheap from time to time). The amount of albums I still buy in new shape is quite small. |

I only have an iPod for convenience, so I don't have to carry around a huge CD binder everywhere I go. But I don't make playlists, I just listen to whole albums. I still like having CD's, and listen to them at home.

123...its like vinyl, you cant skip songs easily...plus I dont want to carry around 350 cds.... |
I only listen to CD's at home. Everywhere else I go I have my MP3 and my phone
pulling down my pants. I forgot to mention the best deal on a CD I've ever got was Metallica's Kill E'm All for one doller |
I've been listening to The Wall today for the first time in a long time. It's been too long, I had forgotten just how much I love this album. Especially Nobody Home.
np- Comfortably Numb I have listened to Comfortably Numb more than any other Pink Floyd song, yet I still get shivers down my spine every single time I hear it. |
well, in a way the cd becoming outdated could be a good thing because they would get cheaper.....like now, tapes used to be the main thing but now i can buy them for like 5 dollars.

I know what you mean, it really is amazing. It's probably the most hauntingly beautiful song I've ever heard. And why does everyone seem to hate Vera? I love it. |

If I had a video were I could actually fit a lot of music on, I'd definitly use it. |

I buy it on vinyl and then download (for free). That way they are supported. |

Actually, you can skip songs quite easily on vinyl. Ever seen those fine black lines on the surface? That's where a new song starts. Just lift the needle and put it on the next black line. On new vinyl it's sometimes harder to see tho. I am now listening to The Wall too. np: The Thin Ice |

It still isnt easy though, because there is no remote, you have to do everything manually..I still listen to all of the albums.. |
