Angry Balled Fists! 12-22-2005 03:05 PM

Dammit, they are touring the UK next March.

I've only seen one big show so far, Alk3 and it was average, if anyone crowd surfed, they got kicked out by security and i'm seeing them at the same palce, so that will probs happen again :(

Wow, that blows.

Angry Balled Fists! 12-22-2005 03:11 PM

I know, i've seen all these shows where peopel are on satge and stuff and it won't be the same.

It depends if the band have a say, i think they might ?

Flagjacket 12-22-2005 03:14 PM

I don't thinka band usually has a say in the venue security.

DaveToopes 12-22-2005 03:16 PM

I doubt anything will change for that show.

Angry Balled Fists! 12-22-2005 03:18 PM

Bleh, Alk3 are just pussies.

Yay for avatar

Flagjacket 12-22-2005 03:19 PM

Yay Tom. You know, I thnk they might be screwing around. Sire and Fat haven't said anything about it.

Angry Balled Fists! 12-22-2005 03:21 PM

True, it would be great if they were ****ing about.

When I saw the Horrorpops at the Mean Fiddler the security just dragged anyone who got on stage off the side.

Angry Balled Fists! 12-22-2005 03:24 PM

No-one could get anywhere near the stage at Notingham.

It was silly.

Brain Toad 12-22-2005 03:24 PM

I said that back a few pages. And the way AM!s news is presented, it reeks of bad joke on elitist fans.

Angry Balled Fists! 12-22-2005 03:29 PM

Wow, it says on the AM! shows page that hte UK shows are £8.50 !

EVERY AM! show n the Uk is 14 +, int he mean fiddler it's 14-16 year olds must be accompanied by someone 18+.

For Christs sake, people have to stop with this yelling "sellout" every time a band makes a move to help themselves.

You CAN still hold anarchist ideals and make money. They can still support picket lines, they can still contribute time/money/energy toward progressive organizations, they can still do their best to try to educate the masses about their beliefs on capitalism, economics, history, etc...

In the end, a band signed to a major who goes out and continues to work toward some solution is still infinitely more punk than a band that screams "**** THE MAJORS!" then goes home and sits on their asses playing Xbox and getting drunk.

Personally, I don't see Against Me! crossing any picket lines any time soon.

Anarchism is in opposition to both capitalism and corruption, major labels are both. They can still be liberal and progressive, but anarchist? I'm not saying they cant be productive, I'm saying they can't be anarchists. Then again being on Fat isnt much different in that regard.

ThisUserIsAPipebomb 12-22-2005 04:29 PM

I just really don't understand why they moved to a bigger label. They had plenty of publicity it seemed. Plenty of output. I just think it's kind of lame.

Doing some research on Sire they actually housed some pretty good bands:
Richard Hell and the Voidoids
Distillers
Flaming Lips

sketchyjoe 12-22-2005 04:31 PM

There's a problem with that list:[QUOTE=ThievesandBastards]Doing some research on Sire they actually housed some pretty good bands:

See?

Yes, they can still call themselves anarchists.

You think independent labels are just doing it for the love of the music? ALL record labels are capitalist. If the record label didn't make money, it would be out of business. Until we have a society based on equal contribution, everyone is going to have to take part in capitalism in some way, shape, or form. The key difference is whether or not you make an effort in your time to fight for that change, in any way possible (including holding firm in your beliefs and refusing to water down your message--and since this news JUST happened, we have no right to judge whether or not they've done that)

When they were on an indy, they still had a boss, and they were still making that boss money. If they really want to survive on their art, they HAVE to make someone else money. Same way a factory worker has to make someone else money. Same way (insert revolutionary here) had to make someone else money at some point.

The only time I would stop calling these guys anarchists is if they blatantly did something to hurt the labor movement, or speak out against the labor movement. They haven't done that. They're still anarchists as far as I can tell.

Lets call a spade a spade here: most people in this thread are calling AM sellouts because now they're not their little secret anymore, and kids who shop at Hot Topic are gonna start listening to them.

sketchyjoe 12-22-2005 04:50 PM

That's part of it and what's wrong with that?

I do get dissapointed when I see things I like at hot-topic because that means kids I don't like are going to start liking the same things as me.

:(

Times were different when Hell was around. They had to go to major labels to get out in the open, but they still were close with Ork Records (Was it Oak or Ork?). Sire back then wasn't even a major anyway, it was just a big indie label. They got bought out by Warner later on I think. It's like Verve or Elektra. They started off with underground bands as a major indie who got bought out.

Also, if you've seen the AM! dvd thing it points out that they really don't want to leave Fat, and for that to change from the dvd to now would be strange.

CameoRole 12-22-2005 06:40 PM

Sire owned what?

LeftoverVictim719 12-22-2005 06:41 PM

I saw em back in September. They put on a really good sho. I'm glad I saw them now, because I really don't like the direction they're heading, both with their music and everything else. I thought the fact that they were on that Myspace records thing was pretty lame and pointless...

Though I must admit, even though I'm a bigger fan of their older stuff, they're shows haven't lost a step, because they still put on one hell of show when I saw em

ThisUserIsAPipebomb 12-22-2005 06:44 PM

Oops, sorry, that should've said Warner. I didn't know Warner owned Sire.

So you're the only one that's allowed to enjoy certain types of music?

I see DK shirts all the time at Hot Topic, doesn't mean I'll stop liking them or be upset at them because other people like them besides me.
