so i've heard somewhere that jay-z doesn't write, but instead listens to his beat for a while and then just goes up, records, and then edits later.
any validity to this?
Yes, he followed in the Notorious B.I.G. style of not writing down most of his rhymes before putting them on the album. He's still a biter though, making it always comical when others take his rhymes. |
I always wondered what Talib Kweli's solo albums would be like, seeing as I like everything he has ever featured on. So how is it?
i don't care for talib at all, his voice is annoying to me and he sounds better on collabos, but if you do try talib whatever you do DON'T GET BEAUTIFULLY HUMAN, god that was awful...everything else is tolerable...and you may want to try blackstar, where he collabs with mos def, pretty good overall
I heard the new Aceyalone at work today, really cool stuff.
So who has heard the Idlewild leak? |

that's badass. man, coming out with 99 problems without writing that shit down. That's incredible. |
Anyone heard Oh No's Exodus Into Unheard Rhythms? I've read stuff about it being a contender for hip-hop album of the year.
I don't know about hip-hop album of the year, but there's some notably good stuff on it from the couple cursory listens I've given the album. The Murs collab might be better than anything on his own album, but then again, I'm a Murs fanboy. I think you'd like it.

So how is it?
If you've heard Black Star, you should definitely check out Reflection Eternal, Talib's solo record with Hi-Tek producing. The other solo records aren't that good, but the Official Sucka-Free Mixtape is pretty tight.
Thanks for the leak, Crumb :-D
This is so good. |
I'm glad to hear confirmation that it's good, but I think I'm going to stick it out until the official release for this one.
I tried, I swear! But I was too tempted.
If anyone feels like pusing it onto me, then they kind find my email in my profile. It's no biggie though, I don't mind waiting.
for anyone interested, Idlewild is on myspace in its entirety.
http://www.myspace.com/outkast The only downside is you can't skip tracks |
i'm gettin into atmosphere, i really like "you cant believe how much fun we're having" and "lucy ford", and am listening to god loves ugly right now, not liking it as much yet.
i'm open to any recommendations of other artists, and other albums featuring slug |
Maybe give the Felt albums a try. It's Slug and Murs. The second one [A Tribute to Lisa Bonet] is better than the first, mostly because the production is a slight step up. They're both kind jokey one-offs, though. But if you like Slug, you might find something to like on either.
i've heard most of Idlewild and i don't really care for it.
Cheers Crumb, I leave tomorrow, so I'll check this out later.
I like Atmosphere, God Loves Ugly is cool, so is Seven's Travels. Also the song "God's Bathroom Floor" is mad.
New Outkast is tigggght so far.
I really like Idlewild. It really sounds like a good mixture of Speakerboxxx and the Love Below, and to be honest I think I like it more than either of those albums.
I heard it too. Just once from the Myspace page. I won't listen again until it arrives, but I'm totally confident now.
Definately, I actually think it makes Speakerboxx/The Love Below look like a bad album in places. I love some tracks on the double album, but Idilewild is consistently catchy and brilliant.
Edit: to Kaden. |

Edit: to Kaden.
That's exactly what I'm thinking. There are some songs on Speakerboxx/Love Below that I like more than any of the songs on Idlewild, but there were also songs I couldn't get into at all on both of those albums, and right now the only song I'm not digging on Idlewild is Hollywood Divorce, and even then Andre's verse is sweet. |
I bought that too and it SUCKS!
I need some more hip-hop. I'm thinking I need a list of essential albums of the genre. Can you wise bastards give me some reccommendations.
What do you already have?
