Why do you people still listen to this shit? Blink 182 is nothing but a bunch of immature little bastards who have no talent,, and write the stupidest cheesiest horrible lyrics, and yet they claim they're punk, yet they sound like nothing but pop. Blink broke up because they felt they made enough money from you people filling up their pockets by buying their stupid shit.

Now grow up, and listen to some real music!

They didn't break up. They are expected to release a new album early next year. They might play for money, but they also play for the love of music. This can be proven by the Dolla Bill Tour. Why does it matter what we listen to?

"Punk Rock" Is such a wide genre. There pop-punk, sub genre of punk, so they are punk realy, just dont say that whilst real "punks" are around, theyll go, omg there power pop, because punks dont like bands being a bit sucsessfull :upset:

Yeah, I know. They like to keep a band underground, and on a indie label.

Aww, how cute, another 12 year old poser. You like to say things like this, but you probably at one time listened to and/or owned Dude Ranch and probably enjoyed it at one time. I know it's your deep, dark secret, so I won't tell anyone. Now, go put on your sister's pants and comb your bangs over your eyes so you can go to Starbucks and talk about how hXc you are.

You are both right. They originated on the punk scene. If it wasn't for bands like The Vandals, Pennywise, The Descendents, and NOFX, blink wouldn't be around today. They are a pop-punk band, and actually used to say things like "Keep supporting punk rock." when they were at awards shows and whatnot. They probably stopped doing this because they got tired of being called sellouts.

This irritates me to no end. The last time I checked, "punk" was supposed to be about social tolerance, change, giving outcasts a place to fit in, and so on. Yet everytime any punk band of any kind becomes successful, they are called sellouts. Punk is the only genre where there exists an element that seems almost self-defeating.

Look at Rise Against right now, they clearly have political and social messages in a lot of their work, yet just because they signed with Geffen, and are on TV where they might actually spread their message to a wider audience and influence and inspire more like-minded, yet untapped people, they are called sellouts. I saw this first-hand when I saw them open for Bad Religion last year. It was the most ridiculous fucking thing I'd ever seen. Even one of my friends who was a huge Rise Against fan months earlier was sitting there shouting the same things as these other idiots. Even BR, who we were there to see, had gone through something similar in previous years. I FUCKING HATE IT!!!!

correct apparently $6000

10571z 05-28-2005 05:07 PM

also i dont even think the genre "punk pop" was around when blink first started. i think as long as it had guitar, bass, drums and singer playing power chords it was punk. anyways who cares i dont wanna argue.

Stew_Blink 05-28-2005 07:20 PM

I recall blink saying something along these line's, when being asked about them being punk or pop-punk..We came from punk roots. That makes alot of sense, becuase pop-punk has punk roots. I don't really think you should go to far into genre's, it just becomes a pointless arguement and can never truly be one.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

pop-punk has been around since blink were in nappies.

Descendents, ramones, buzzcocks were around mid/late 70s and these are the bands that Blink drew and adapted their sound from to make the pop rock songs they play

albert_bass 05-29-2005 09:37 AM

Oh my god... I must be dreaming.

In fact one of the first bands to start the mainstream punk thing was pop-punk.

The Ramones?

cobert 05-29-2005 09:49 AM

That name sounds familiar. They came out in 1992, right?
