It has such a rich atmosphere. The cover art and song titles are both perfect for the music. Very befitting.

the2stranger 07-30-2006 01:44 PM

The cover art looks awesome indeed.
Good art can add so much to an album.
I've been listening to a couple tracks from My Dying bride. is that funeral doom? its pretty good. gives a despair-y, sad, metal-ized emo (not a bad thing) type of thing, pretty good. what are other bands like this?

ive heard sunn o. wow. steaming pile of crap. their songs are like a 15 min mess of low-low-tuned guitars strumming the same chord 10 times then moving on to another low chord.
Sunn O))) have atmosphere though.

the2stranger 07-30-2006 02:04 PM

yes, they have huge atmopshere.
Sunn O))) is great.

Daven 07-30-2006 02:07 PM

Sunn O))) are very good. Black 1 is my favorite album by them.

Nepenthe 07-30-2006 02:09 PM

Black One is definately their best. I love Sunn, but I can easily see how alot of people would be bored by them. They are an acquired taste.

the2stranger 07-30-2006 02:11 PM

I haven't listened toBlack One in a while.
I love White one too, My Wall =

Would you mind uploading it to metaloz? I just noticed you have it.

Daven 07-30-2006 02:25 PM

Sure man. I'll do it in this upcoming week.

the2stranger 07-30-2006 02:26 PM

If I remember correctly, Oz has some Sunn O))) in his inbox at this moment, not sure which album though.

Daven 07-30-2006 02:27 PM

I just looked through one of his emails, and yes he has some Sunn waiting to be sent. So i'll wait to see if its B1.

Eh, it's not that I find them boring (hell, I love Boris in their most droning moments, and a good deal of the music I listen to requires a lot of patience), but I think they just sound really bad and they really grate on me.

Nepenthe 07-30-2006 03:13 PM

What albums have you heard Kage?

I honestly didn't like them until I heard Black One. After listening to that for awhile I got into their earlier stuff as well.

the2stranger 07-30-2006 03:18 PM

I like most Sunn O))), I just think the Grimrobe Demos is horrible.

Daven 07-30-2006 04:28 PM

This Maiden Voyage is quite good! Thanks for the recommendation Q.

repcak 07-30-2006 04:28 PM

flight of the behemoth is great too (beside of black one -> i have a black one t-shirt :p ) - the keyboard part in one of the songs is amazing. i was like  when i heard it for the first time

the2stranger 07-30-2006 04:31 PM

I make some Drone on my keyboard from time to time, I must do that with headphones though, otherwise I will blow up the speakers :(
keyboard drone is awesome :)

Don't mention it.

Yeah, they are very good. I love the vocals.

ATM 07-30-2006 06:57 PM

So I shall be seeing Boris with Sunn O))) soon :-D

Kage 07-30-2006 07:04 PM

Fucking great. I'd kill to see Boris.

I've heard Black1 by Sunn, and I hate that album.

Hm, that's the one that really made me appreciate them. Guess they're just not your thing.

ATM 07-30-2006 07:25 PM

Have you guys heard the Boris and Merzbow collaboration?

rhcp pman 07-31-2006 03:20 AM

Haha, I thought you guys were talking about Herbie Hancock's album called Maiden Voyage (it's a sweet jazz album).

But anyway, I'll have to hear this band... I haven't heard that much funeral doom yet, but I've listened to so much doom in such a short space of time that I'll probably swallow the genre whole :D.

It's now one of my favourite genres - there's just so much to be said for it.

Jondur 07-31-2006 04:16 AM
i could never get into traditional doom metal... ... for me its just old school heavy metal.
And I fail to see the problem with that! :chug:

I said sometime ago (in another thread) that all metal should ultimately relate to, or promote, beer and headbanging. Anything else leads to mawkish introspection, pseudo-intellectualism and a distinct lack of metalness.

well, you forgot to mention long hairs :p

the2stranger 07-31-2006 05:39 AM

Cool, if my mind is not fooling me the thread has been merged?

Apocalyptic Raids 07-31-2006 05:49 AM

Yeah, they've been merged.

Werny 07-31-2006 07:35 AM

Aeothe Kaear is amazing! I warn people; on Stormcrowfleet there's no fast parts, it's all rather sluggish, and The Everdarkgreen and Pouring are seperate songs.

All good metal involves relation to beer? Maybe that's why I've never really been able to get into trad doom, I've never drank in my life, haha.

Jondur 07-31-2006 08:13 AM
Yeah, they've been merged.
Merged with what? Which threads?

Apocalyptic Raids 07-31-2006 08:25 AM

Inpropagation's "Let's talk about Doom Metal!" (or whatever it was called) has been merged into this one.
